How Many Coats Do You Own?

I have too many to count. Even if I tried I'd lose count and have to start again. When you cant count them then you will know that that is tooooo0000 many :D

I don't have too many. I have a grey peacoat that works for spring and fall, then two parkas (one white one black) for the winter. All that's missing really is a summer coat (sadly I need this), the buttons fell off my old one.

Way too many! Almost all were bought on sale/end of season and I've been collecting them for a long time-living in SF you always need some kind of coat.
3 long cashmere/alpacas
2 minks - one long, one short - both inherited
4 trench coats
2 Burberry trenches
2 down jackets - one brown, one black
4 fun/fashion coats that are more flash than practical
6 leathers
3 short wool/cashmere coats
3 sports coats for jogging/biking etc.
2 down vests
I have to say other than the furs I use all of them!

I have so many that I am not going to count.
I do wear them all. I live in the North East and I am always cold. I also do both driving and walking/taking trains, and I like different coats for different activities.

I have:
-1 down hooded parka in black, knee length, for when it's really cold and snowy and I plan to walk far (this is new and replacing an old one in chocolate brown)
-1 down hooded parka in khaki, thigh length, for when it's cold and snowy but more driving than walking, also for walking at night when I want drivers to be able to see me better in the dark
-1 down hooded parka in black, thigh length, still warm but so old it's worn down, for walking to the gym in the winter
-1 short down jacket in black, more dressy (some mink trim) for winter days that are not too cold
-1 thigh-length Primaloft jacket in black with zip-out hood and zip-up turtleneck liner in the front, perfect for freezing rain in the winter
-1 3/4 length belted shearling in black (not worn much at all)
-1 belted navy wool coat, thigh length
-3 trench coats (black with a slight shine for evening, classic khaki Burberry, and dark olive)
-1 dark blue 3/4 length Burberry anorak with removable liner and zip-out hood
-1 olive thigh-length Burberry anorak with zip-out hood
-1 belted cashmere sweater coat in black
-1 leather motorcycle jacket in chocolate brown

I think I will stop here. Except for the shearling and the black trench, I really do wear them all regularly. I hate being cold and wet and I really make a point of protecting myself from the element.

I own <10. But all of them are in the storage now (hiks...) due to the fact that I no longer live in a place where coat is necessary or even practical...

Although that doesn't stop me from drooling over zara coat from my recent shopping trip. I don't remember exactly whether it's

or
http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stor...1/126502/573002/DOUBLE+BREASTED+MILITARY+COAT
but I do remember it cost about $250 here :crybaby:

It should be snowing by now in MN :girlsigh:

for people who have 10+ coats...do you get to wear most of them?? i got 4 and i don't really wear them all...

Yeah, I do. Some may go into hiding for a year because I tire of wearing them. For instance I didn't wear either of my black coats last winter because I was tired of black. But then the following season I "shop my closet" and find it, thinking "Oh yeah, I LOVE this coat. Gotta start wearing it again." And I do.

I also keep a spare jacket in the car, and a jacket hanging by the back door for when I run out to attend to the dogs, and a jacket on a peg in the garage for when I dash out there to do garage stuff. We live in a cold rainy climate, so they all get lots of use.

The coats that don't get as much use are the special occasion dress coats. Those I may wear only a couple times a year.

Let's see:

3 Burberry trenches (navy, beige, light grey)
3 high-street brand trenches (black, beige, leopard)
2 leather jackets (grey, teal)
4 wool coats (3 black, 1 grey)
1 Chanel jacket (black & cream)
1 Armani jacket (cream)
1 light wool high-street brand jacket (light grey)
2 H&M boyfriend blazers (black, navy)
1 denim jacket (olive green)
2 winter jackets (black, red)

So that's 20 in total.

so true!:true::useless: I live in London which can get nippy, so coats are essential. Still I discipline myself so I do not have more than SIX at a time. And I find that tends to cover most situations. Otherwise the wardrobe gets full of stuff - and some of it does not look so good after say 3-4 years.

photos coming soon..

1. vintage chanel boucle in BLACK (this is old but very hard to replace.)
2. cream 100% cashmere short coat by bottega veneta (what on earth did I buy this for? its pretty glam, but is CREAM!)
3. a NAVY 100% down light weight + super warm mid length from uniqlo
4. tweedy HEATHER mixed colour faux fur collar from ZARA, (love this one just bought it.)
5. MARC JACOBS military style olive coat with fur hood (just bought it)
6. trenches x2 in black and stone 9but they do not really count as they are not PROPER coats, too cold to wear them now. So I am allowed one more right?:graucho:

I have a MAJOR clear out every year and give away lots,:crybaby: including a grey cashmere from Max Mara, fur collar taupe from yves solomon, pink tweedy boucle from Harrods... I do hope they went to a good home.:worthy:

OOOohhhhhh.....I feel SO MUCH BETTER!!!! I thought I had way too many coats (gentle estimate at 15), but now it seems that is not so abnormal!! I really like my coats, so if I like it enough to buy it in the first place, it is hard to get rid of it!

Really it seems I should go to Coat Owners Anon, you are all so well organised.

I think coats are my armour, if I have a nice coat and bag I feel as though I can do battle in the city. Armour on my back and shield in my hand, invincible in the face of a missed bus, shutting bank and fighting to the death for that last Hermes scarf in that cw :ninja:

One of the reasons why I carry top-handles is so I wont ruin my coats/jackets.

Love the picture this put in my head! Armour and shield for the city!

i admittedly have to many... i am always tempted to buy 1-2 each year, but I think I finally have come to grips with reality. So no more until i get rid of a few..
(2) trenches: burberry with removable liner, orange vintage with hood
(4) wool/cashmere winter mid length: jcrew camel, another camel, elie tahari black, camel vintage with fur cuffs and collar
(1) winter long: ralph lauren cream
(1) leather: michael kors brown
(1) light weight peacoat: vince brown
(4) puffer/sport: northface black full length down; northface gray short length snowboarding; northface black light weight with zip out fleece; kenneth cole short length puffer
And then a slew of what I would call "jackets" but outerwear nonetheless:
citizen for humanity jean,
marc jacobs cream,
elevenies courduroy,
yaya long light weight,
nike wind breaker,
puma track,
lululemon track,
tahari fleece,
2 northface denalis
college track

I think that is most of them, although I am sure I forgot a few, which is a bit embarrassing. so 20-30 is a good guesstimate. This was a helpful exercise to self reflect =)

In my climate, a jacket or coat is a necessity from about September through April. Plus there is the need for different weights and materials, casual or dressy variants, and short and long versions! (this is how I justify the number I own)

My breakdown:

Lightweight autumn:
Leather biker jacket
Short casual black nylon with wool lining
Dressier short grey wool jacket with velvet ruffled collar
Dressier long brown tweed coat with velvet collar
Lightweight shiny grey metallic rain jacket
Brown fleece jacket

Heavy autumn/light winter:
Dressy black trench with removable lining
Casual grey herringbone hooded swing coat

Mid winter:
Dressy black camel wrap coat
Casual black parka

Heavy winter:
Casual long brown puffer
Fancy long navy puffer
Another fancy shiny grey puffer with fur collar (this one is excessive as it overlaps the navy puffer in function)
Shearling coat (about mid thigh length)

Yikes, when written out like this it looks awful!!!
But I do wear these all in heavy rotation, and they will stay in my wardrobe for many, many years as they are in general classic styles.
