Really it seems I should go to Coat Owners Anon, you are all so well organised.

I think coats are my armour, if I have a nice coat and bag I feel as though I can do battle in the city. Armour on my back and shield in my hand, invincible in the face of a missed bus, shutting bank and fighting to the death for that last Hermes scarf in that cw :ninja:

One of the reasons why I carry top-handles is so I wont ruin my coats/jackets.

heh heh! very funny. its true that a nice coat + bag = fini, one is dressed! I would add boots - but that's another story. I am the same with jackets. Overcoats is where moui stays disciplined...:worthy::worthy::worthy:

I, too, have far too many. But I often purchase them on sale at the end of the season, too. I have a different style and color for almost every occasion, and I enjoy having stand-out colors and styles. So while I appreciate the idea of having quality, investment pieces, I also enjoy having many different styles and colors.

same here.. winters in the northeast can be long, so a coat becomes an outfit in it's own way. I would get bored wearing the same coat for 3 months straight.

Yes, this is exactly it. For many of the errands I run, I could wear the same actual outfit every single day for weeks (yes, eww, but I am just using it as an example to prove the importance of a coat!) and no one would be able to tell. In the winter, all anyone sees much of the time is the coat, the scarf and the boots. So I am willing to invest in multiples of those items because they get very heavy rotation every fall/winter season. The coat and scarf essentially ARE the outfit, and I couldn't bear to wear the same one daily.

I have quite a bit but I live in Canada and late autumn into early spring can be brutal.

5 - trenchcoats
3 - jackets
4 - more professional or formal coats
2 - causal and insulated coats (mostly used for those 20 mins yard duty at work!) and these are definitely not designer ones!

everyone tells me i own WAY too many jackets but after reading some posts here, i think i'm normal!!!

i own
2 denim jackets: light and dark
3 trench coats: beige, navy, cream
4 leather jackets: 3 brown, 1 black
4 downfills: vest, black reversible grey 3/4 length, black bomber, brown bomber
7 wools: short military green, short black, short grey, long grey, long black, long white, long burnt orange

i'm sure i'm missing a few but that's most of it!

You all have so many!!!

I have 4.
-A Soia & Kyo grey trench
-A Mackage leather jacket
-A Mackage wool coat
-A TNA winter parka

I don't really feel like I need MORE coats. At the end of this season I will probably get a new parka because the one I have is not warm enough, and eventually I'd like to replace my trench with something a bit more mature-I'm eyeing a few from AllSaints right now. But I'm not one to rotate coats on a regular basis-I have my 1 wool winter coat that I wear every single day and I'm totally fine with that.

Wait are we all talking about coats here? Or jackets too? I think some people are referring to their jackets as coats.

For coats Im in the minimal. I have 2 white ones, one with down and another light coat. Ive always had a thing for white coats lol, Ive had them for years. The one Ive had for at least 10 years now.

As for jackets, I have about 3? 2 leather and 1 suede. That I can recall.

These days I prefer hoodies/sweaters to coats since they're not as heavy and I dont get so hot in them that I have to take them off while shopping, ect. Im also trying to be a minimalist. Ive had a bit of a hoarding problem.. especially with clothes. I find that even if you're organized, if you just have way too many things, you forget they are there and you end up buying more. When I revamped my wardrobe earlier this year, I found 3 of the same pieces of clothing lol :shame: Now I like to keep it simplistic so I know what I have. And when I get sick of something, I will throw it out and buy something new.

I live in the tundra known as Minnesota so not only is it below freezing most of the year, it's below zero so I have at least 20 coats - 3 down (casual), 7 wool coats of different lengths for work, 5 leather jackets and coats, 3 wool- or fleece-lined parkas, a few trench coats.

I only count as a "coat" something I would never wear in LA no matter how cold it gets here. So I only have two --one is a simple beige wool chesterfield type from Henri Bendel c. 1985 and another green one from Ann Taylor c. 1983. The Bendel one was fine when my job stuck me in NJ for a few years -- I never even bothered to get a new one (too busy plotting my escape...)

I have 3 peacoats. Two were expensive and good quality, 1 just because I liked the interesting colour.

I also have 2 casual coats/ jackets, and an expensive leather jacket.

I think coats really make the outfit in winter.
Wearing a cheap one cheapens your whole look IMO so it's best to go for quality.

Oh geeeezzz......I am a coat freak..I have no idea how many I have....maybe 20...or more...eek....I LOVE coats!!!! ...and I have been thinking of getting another one! YEAH!!!! I'm not alone!
