How many bags are too many bags?

The concept of "too much" it's definitely going to depend on your lifestyle and budget. I am a professional who travels for work, I am a college professor, and I am a ardent volunteer and community advocate. I am a member and/or on the board of several community organizations, so pretty much every possible scenario that could happen, I will find myself in it within a month, so I have an actual need for bags for literally all occasions. and I literally use them all, taking into account bags for different seasons as well. I change bags 2-3 times each day. work day bag [change to match my outfit] almost always have an after work event to attend either professionally, or socially, errand bags, special event [fundraisers, auctions, sporting events] so having a lot of bags for me works. Now when I was a student, I was still very active, but didn't have the need [or funds] for such an extensive handbag collection.

This really expressed how I feel. I want to have each occasion covered but my problem is that soon I get bored or if I settled instead of waiting or getting what I really want I eventually will try to get what I really wanted instead. And so the cycle continues

I love all of my bags. I suppose I have bags that I could part with... To be honest DH has become quite an aficionado of my collection and somewhat of an enabler!! So when I mention selling a bag, he will make a comment about our DD may want the bag when she gets older... Therefore I keep my bags. I will say that my price point has gone up and I do not purchase as many bags as I used to. There are never too many bags!!!!
You have the perfect husband!! ;)

If I have more than 3 or 4 at a time I feel like some aren't being used - the leather degrades over time even if they are sitting in the closet so I'd rather keep the number low and replace one when it wears out. I usually only change about once every month or two when I get bored with the one I'm using - but if I don't use one at all for a year I give it to charity (and that makes 'room' for a new one!) Right now I have 2 MK, 1 LV and a small KS for parties and that's plenty for me.

also never settle. I will not buy a bag in less than two months [1 month if it's L.E.] I generally only buy a bag if my heart sings at first sight, won't get a bag that has to "grow on me." that let's me know in advance I'll likely get tired of it. but even when my heart sings, I'll keep coming back for 2-3 months, to see if my heart is still singing as strongly as it did the first time, and then and only then will I get it. This won't happen if settling. I'd rather not have a bag, than have a bag that is second strig to what I really want.

my DH is very similar, only he complains about how I have way too many bags, and it's ridiculous, so when I start going thru picking out ones to sell he's like NO NO NO....WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! ANNNNNNNND, when we are in a store, or I'm looking at the Gucci or Dooney site, he's like oh, get that one, that's nice. He knows all of the collections and brands I like and don't like. he has even become partial to the brands I like [turning up his nose at the ones I don't lol]

I never understand why anyone feels they have the right to tell someone how much of something they can have. Would the nosy nellies like comments on how I feel about their education level? Number and choice of romanctic partners? Size of their house? Their weight? Their nose hair length? No? Then don't comment on my handbags / jewelry / clothes, etc.

I have been on a buying spree to replace a ton of bags that I sold. I've bought 8 bags this year and now have about 30 (not including evening bags). I wear all of them because I change bags daily to coordinate with my outfit and shoes. I think my magic number of non evening bags will be around 35ish.

I think the only time you have too many bags is when you have to go into debt and / or can't afford them. But, if you can afford to pay your bills and you have money to save, invest, give to charity then buy 10,000 bags if it makes you happy!

I only have two designer bags right now- one MK hamilton I got a great deal on when Threadflip had a 30% off promo (do they even do those anymore?) and a Kate Spade bag I got during a surprise sale. I also have an MK wristlet that I ended up really disliking that I never use, and a Kate Spade Saturday wallet I use every day. I also just buckled down and ordered a MK Jet Set travel tote that I've been wanting for over a year.

I'm the type it takes me forever to feel okay about a large splurge purchase, I lusted after a MK hamilton for years until I had cc's paid off from college debt and could comfortably afford that kind of purchase on a bag. I still only buy a new designer bag/accessory every 6 months or so. I enjoy shopping and I'm always looking, but it takes me a long time to pull the trigger. But I never have buyer's remorse!

I'm sorry, but when you start stuffing bags in closet corners or haphazardly stacking them on top of one another, you may have too many.
You must respect the bag, with a tasteful display that allows you to stare at and admire them.

Agreed! I have to buy more shelves for my bags. It's worth buying, u will appreciate them more and it also prevent your bag from going out of shape.

Sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree. My bags are not "tastefully displayed" and set out to be admired. That may suite you, but mine (a couple Chanels, a LV, Valentino, several Prada, Fendi, etc.) are all stored in their dust bags and stuffed to maintain their shape on shelves in my closet or in dresser drawers so as to keep them dust free and to maintain the integrity of the bags. My opinion is that no number of bags is too many as long as you use and appreciate them....and can afford them, of course.

I hate to say it, but I agree.

I'm up to about 25 bags. I try to rotate but it's easier to just reach for the last one used.

We have a second home and are in the middle of a major renovation. One of the things that's being built is a walk-in closet. My goal is to move most of my bags up there, and switch them out every week. This way, I'm forced to use them all.

But then I think, if I need to "force" myself to use certain bags, shouldn't I just sell them off?

:girlsigh: what to do, what to do.. :thinkin:

I was just joking about respecting the bag.
It sounds like you are properly storing your bags.
What I'm talking about photos I've seen of people who have 100-150 bags on the floor, piled up on top of each other, and the person has no choice but to step all over the bags to get to their clothes - something a hoarder would do.
