How many bags are too many bags?

Where does one find waterproof dust bags? I'd love to get one big enough to protect my LP, easier to wash a dustbag than the LP.

I travel with a Longchamp Le Pliage tote and a crossbody bag (brand changes, right now it's Burberry). If there's a super dressy event, then I would pack my Chanel inside my LP.

Never understood if she waterproofed original dustbag or ordered waterproof one--bag was lv, I remember.
Here's a thread, from lv forum, with various waterproofing ideas. Maybe helps?

Hey fellow handbag addicts,

I find myself wondering if I will ever be content with my handbag collection. It seems no matter how many bags I buy, there is ALWAYS a new one sneaking on my never ending wish list...I now own 30 high end designer handbags and am already eyeing the next ones (Gucci Soho Disco bag and LV Pochette Métis if anybody is interested! ;)). Hence I have passed the point of "I need a certain style of handbag", every piece I am buying is a "I want that certain handbag" - purchase since I really do not need any more bags.

So my question is: how many handbags are too many bags? Do I really need to buy every handbag I am obsessed with?? And how can I exercise the willpower to say "It is gorgeous and I admire it, but I do not have to own it"? I feel like my addiction is getting out of hand (I am slightly exaggerating...I would never buy a bag if I don't have the money for it). HELP!! ;)

I feel your pain - I sort of am in the same situation: but I do not keep the bags I no longer am excited about - I sell them off. at some point I began to accumulate bags and realised that I do not wear them and the older ones are no longer interesting to me at that point. so I am not collector as such.

I just get bored too quickly or think that what I have does not really fulfill my need. plus I like a particular new style.

I have decided to start a no shopping challenge for 1 year from 1 September, to see whether I can change my shopping habits. I am afraid I cannot offer real advice as I am still trying to figure out my way but as for the bag excitement: I have found that if I waited a bit, some bags lost all interest for me whereas others I still had to have - so I only bought those that I had to have. It has reduced some of the buying and selling frenzy :p

So many of us here have internalized guilt or guilt placed upon us by others over our love for and collection of handbags. Would we feel the same way if we were art collectors? Or stamp collectors perhaps?
To me handbags are beautiful things and if I want a new one and can afford it then I'll buy it.
Unlike art or stamps, I can use my handbags.
Enough is when you decide it's enough and only you will know when that is. Until then, enjoy what you have and know that your collection is a representation of your tastes and your personality, a truly unique collection.

This is so well put. Thank you.

i personally don't believe there's such a thing as 'too much' based on quantity. Material things are just that - material things. If they truly make you happy, I say there is no limit. 'Too much' to me is when you find yourself wanting the next big thing simply because it is the next big thing instead of because you truly love the design and can see yourself admiring it for years to come.

Perfect answer

I don't think the point of "too much" is about the actual number of bags rather than the attitude towards getting the bags. If you are buying a bag just to have the latest thing and most of your bags aren't seeing the light of day and never used, I'd sell the ones I didn't use and focus on the ones I still loved and was excited about. If you are getting new bags because you honestly love them and are using them, why not? As long as you can afford the bags and aren't buying them while neglecting other priorities in life.

If I started spending $2k+ on items impulsively just to have the latest thing, got bored the next day after buying a bag and discarded it instead of truly appreciating what I had, I would reevaluate my spending habits. But I don't see anything wrong with starting and keeping a collecting that you use and enjoy, bags that truly get you excited, etc.

Similar threads above, with some good answers, imo.
Hope they help.

I have a ten big bag and a four small bag rule! For me when buying high end designer bags these bags cost too much money for them to sit in a closet and collect dust. They are not trophies and are meant to be used. I feel anymore than ten big bags they will not get used even with switching daily as I do. Yes there will always be that urge to buy something new but I am strict and stay to my set rule. So if I want something new something old has to go! This helps to keep me grounded on spontaneous unnecessary purchases which can easily happen with handbags!

I keep my collection small- ish, not because of guilt or peer pressure, but due to lifestyle preferene and available space. Living in an one bedroom flat, means I have limited wardrobe space, so have to be very selective what I keep in it- No craming things in! Apart from that, I like easy access and knowing exactly what I own, suits my current lifestyle. My view is that lifestyle evolves so one never has 'enough' as such, because needs change.

The concept of "too much" it's definitely going to depend on your lifestyle and budget. I am a professional who travels for work, I am a college professor, and I am a ardent volunteer and community advocate. I am a member and/or on the board of several community organizations, so pretty much every possible scenario that could happen, I will find myself in it within a month, so I have an actual need for bags for literally all occasions. and I literally use them all, taking into account bags for different seasons as well. I change bags 2-3 times each day. work day bag [change to match my outfit] almost always have an after work event to attend either professionally, or socially, errand bags, special event [fundraisers, auctions, sporting events] so having a lot of bags for me works. Now when I was a student, I was still very active, but didn't have the need [or funds] for such an extensive handbag collection.

I love all of my bags. I suppose I have bags that I could part with... To be honest DH has become quite an aficionado of my collection and somewhat of an enabler!! So when I mention selling a bag, he will make a comment about our DD may want the bag when she gets older... Therefore I keep my bags. I will say that my price point has gone up and I do not purchase as many bags as I used to. There are never too many bags!!!!
