How many bags are too many bags?

2-3 months ago, I realized I have more than 50 bags, maybe even 60 or so. I felt depressed a bit and I asked myself why I let the number go to that level. It was just too much!! Last year, I got fascinated with Rebecca Minkoff older bags, and my RMs alone reached 50 too at some point during the period. My realization triggered some selling frenzy. But I could only sell so much since for one, RMs are not mainstream in my country, there is a neglible secondary market. Anyway, I've managed to bring down the total of my bags to 40 or so now. Some pieces are still up for sale in our local ebay, but so far no takers. So, much as I would like to bring down the number of my bags to the 20s or 30s level, I can only wait until my bags sell. I've already given some to friends and relatives.

As to an ideal number, maybe 15-20 is good. I just don't know how I could bring down my collection to that size...

I've probably got around 30. I definitely have no more cupboard space to store them. I recently discovered the Massaccesi line but this time I made sure I sold some bags to finance buying one more to force myself not to hoard than for financial reasons.

I also keep a spreadsheet and track which bags I wear and for how long (slightly freaky, I know). Then at the end of the year I can clearly see what I have reached for more than others and those on the worn less than 10 times in the year are out.

I've been downsizing / upgrading as well over the course of this year and am keeping 11 purses (after my last purchase arrives), 4 clutches & 5 SLGs. Unless something new is dramatically different from something I already own, I've been good at the 1 in / 1 out policy

To help stay on track, I wrote out a list of all my purses, colors, sizes, types of handles, hardware & material in my iPhone notepad. That way if I'm tempted while out shopping I can see my list and determine "nope, already have one" or "what do I have to get rid of to make room for this" & then decide whether I'm prepared to do that. Helps tremendously with impulse purchases!

What a great idea to put it on your phone. I have a list but it is kept at home which does me no good when I'm out.

So far I still go shopping for handbags but I think I am at my limit. I got my bags from various brands like kate spade, michael kors, and coach and I gotta say, I am very satisfied. As of right now, I have about 11 bags so I guess my limit is 11.

I have 20+ ( can't remember exact number.) It's too many for me. I know I need to get rid of a few or several, but I haven't done it yet!

I'd like to keep the ones I love and use regularly, except for a few that are used on week-ends only or special occasions ( wristlets/clutches for weddings.)

I do think I could manage easily with 10 or under, but my goal is 15 to 17 for now.

Glad this thread was started. I need to get on this and consign or give away a few.

I have stopped purchasing and even though there is one more bag and a wallet I would LIKE to have, I probably will not get them...at most I would get the wallet, but I know I don't NEED it. It would be a want for sure.

I have more than enough. I love my collection as it is now. If I bought any more at this point, I'd need to sell a bag to justify the new purchase to myself, and I don't want to sell what I have and love. I want to be done.

I really don't have a limit. As long as I can afford it, I will keep on buying them... :)

High five!

I feel like my limit is predicated by storage space & an imminent cross country relocation which is why I'm being OCD about list writing to maximize my purse utility & to not fall prey to impulse buys even if they're in the realm of affordability

I have lots of bags that I regret buying and definitely need to consign/donate. Especially cheaper ones that were so cute I couldn't resist at the time... eep.

I can't deal with more than like 5 in rotation at any time so I think I want to be down to 10 owned. Packing's also horrible with so many... I've moved a lot. My parents still have some of my old purses in their attic as I send things home every time I move!

I never thought about stop buying handbags until I noticed well my mom did, that I purchased only 10 handbags since last march (7 months), she is freaking out as I'm a bagaholic and it has become an issue that they suggest me to see a consultant :roflmfao:
Not to mention that Im in the waiting list for My precious little miss Prada saffiano lux tote and the annoncement has driven every one crazy :D
Although it seems impossible but I have convinced myself that NO MORE handbags after missy Prada, as I will be graduated and will apply for a job saving my money for masters...so higher priorities :shucks:
I live in Dubai and couldn't find a website where you can sell second hand handbags, or if there is the website, there is no audience for it...so no 1 in 1 out for me, although I'm not really in to selling or giving my handbags away as I think they will make a nice collection in next 20 years and maybe I can pass them to my daughter someday  I'm 21 by the way

Do you have alot of choice for handbags in Dubai? I friend of mine is visiting there and she thought handbags were the one accessory you could really show off...would you agree?

I don't have a set number, but it is more of a feeling for me. I can't have a ton of handbags because I feel overwhelmed and I no longer enjoy them. I would love to be a person that has 4 or 5 handbags total and is completely content but I do like some variety. I carry mostly totes and cross body styles so those seem to work the best. And if I do feel as though I've taken on too many, I will sell a few or donate them to our local women's shelter. I also like to keep what I own in clear view in my closet, which helps keeps numbers lower. If I start getting anxious, it's time to downsize, sell or donate. I will say that the hassle of selling online often keeps me in check for some time. It's such a PITA sometimes that I have better restraint in my buying decisions. If only that lesson would last forever...:p
