How many bags are too many bags?

For some people, 3-4 handbags is more than enough. Others feel claustrophobic if they have more than 12 or fifteen. And some will feel like they still "need" more if they have over a hundred bags.

I am not a minimalist. While my collection is normal by tPF standards, in real life, people say it is excessive. Personally, I feel uncomfortable about how many I own if I don't use what I own.
1) I haven't carried a bag in six months (a year for clutches) and if 2) I haven't carried the bag more than 7 times per year since I've owned it - it goes.

When the number of bags you have reduces the enjoyment you have in the bags you actually use.

(negative consequence reducing enjoyment can include lack of storage space, confusion and clutter, excessive $$$ investment in non used bags, bag spending causing money problems, grief from family, etc, etc, etc)

I ve been thinking about this - as I like to keep the number down to a minimum. I used to say - NO MORE THAN 6 for me. as that would cover all major eventualities. Since I started hanging out in this forum my *needs* have increased rather a lot. (I have 9 now but I will cut down again) For me that is too many bags as I feel that some of them double up for my lifestyle. Everyone's *needs* and *desires* are different, but I find more than 10 handbags at any one time overwhelming. Though some ladies here - collect, say evening clutches which are very pretty. That is a hobby rather than a wardrobe accessory. According to the daily mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ome-Why-woman-owns-111-handbags-lifetime.html ''the average 30-year-old owns 21 handbags and buys a new one every three months. That adds up to 111 over the course of a lifetime - with a total outlay of more than £8,000." I do feel that I ve bought too many bags and really need to practice restraint and not get any more - until I edit what I already have. I DONT WANT a handbag COLLECTION - I just want polished FINISHING TOUCHES for my wardrobe. In which case I need no more than 5-6 bags. Here is my old chanel collection - hard to edit but needs to be done.

Everything above...100% true... Also, if the bags are not used often or are totally forgotten...then I guess its too many...

but this is totally different for people who Collect bags... or are into blogging. for them, more the better...

This! At my bag obsesssion peak I had more than I could count and all I could think of was how much I owed on credit cards. I couldn't enjoy the bags at all. They have all gone now, sold them all, paid off my credit cards and the bags I have now I saved up for. Because there is no guilt or worry attached to them, they make me smile each time I use them!

Absolutely NOT … that’s heresy, I love handbags and I cannot seem to stop buying more!!!
I mean who would take the same bag from beach to nightclub, or from country weekend to work … that’s the joy of the handbag, its shape, its colour, its texture … but having said that, I’ve discovered a nifty little secret to keep my bags looking stylish and on trend.

… ping me a comment and I’m happy to reveal it!

It is "too many handbags" if you don't have anymore joy and excitement in using some of the bags in your current collection and had to purchase another one.

You can have 100 bags but you can enjoy reusing them again while at the same time, buy and enjoy new handbags if your financial capacity allows so. Then, it's not too many. It all boils down in what you hope to achieve with a bag collection.

I completely agree. :goodpost:

It is only "too much" when you don't rotate what you have. Case in point, I bought an AW Rocco last year, but ever since then I've bought a couple LVs, Chanels and a Celine. That AW has not been seen the light of day since I don't know when.

Well said!

I hope to have the perfect classic bag for everything, this means I appear to have duplicates of things like shoulder/tote bags, and long-strap satchel bags, but they are for different things - my Miu Miu tote for example won't fit over a winter coat, so there's a "substitute" waiting on the bench for the colder months!:smile1:

The only time I ever had too many bags was when I used to just buy high street stuff, <£40 a go, none were ever quite right and the temptation to make an impulse buy meant I got a bit overstocked...
