Thanks kashmira, miss piggy, and Kelly_Birkin again. I am starting to feel a little better.

fatefullotus, good luck, stay strong, you can do it! Birkins can totally be casual as well ~ a lot of ladies here wear it with jeans and they look great! And even though I think Kellys are dressier, I've seen them with jeans also.

Fatefullotus and Brennamom - I wear my birkins with jeans. The great thing is that they can be dressy or casual.

That said - I have 2 of the best hermes bags for casual wear!!

The first is the kelly ado - It's a backpack. I have three and I wear them everywhere!! They are small, so, for me, it's not great for work - but on weekends, dinner and vacation - I don't leave home without one.

I am not sure if they still make them - however, I've seen them on ebay occassionally and the prices haven't been bad. You should check that out. I also know there are a few in the hermes system as an SA recently did a search for me - I was hoping to get a specific color.

here's an Ado for a very good price - (ask in the "authenticate this" section before making any offers):

Also, I have a dogon belt bag. It holds a lot - a blackberry, passport, money, credit card/license/building pass, lipstick, a pen - I even put in my jotter occasionally. I wear that bag for all travel. It's great for airports as you can have all of your essentials on you with a bigger bag in your suitcase.

here's the belt bag - But, I would buy the ADO first, if it were me):

I hope this helps you enjoy Hermes very soon!!

Thanks for the support, P-B, Kelly_Birkin, hermeshunter and Brennamom! Like Kelly_Birkin and Brennamom, wearing a Kelly or Birkin to work is completely out of the question for me. And on nocturnal outings, I'm afraid of drinks being spilled. So far, the only times I can take the Birkins out are when BF and I have a posh weekend date -- few and far in between these days. It's something I knew prior to taking the big H plunge but like so many, was in denial! :push: I convinced myself my first B (potiron, gold hardware) would hit that elusive balance between casual and dressy, neutral and pop of color. And while I still think she's beautiful and all those things, she sticks out like... well, a potiron Birkin amongst black Tumi briefcases at my workplace. :sweatdrop: My second B is simply gorgeous and momentary insanity on my part. I had been lusting after it for a while when the opportunity presented itself. I snatched her up -- a gris birdie. But she's completely not appropriate for my lifestyle right now. I'm tempted to give her up but haven't been able to just yet. :sweatdrop:

I'm determined to make the next B purchase something useful so I don't feel so bad about my H indulgence. Black with gold hardware would be the obvious choice, but I'm leaning towards Hermes' golds/browns -- so yummy!

Thanks again, ladies!

Decided to take a look at this thread after being away from it for a while. So much has happened.

P-B - Am sorry to hear you are going through some hardships right now. Hopefully, time will heal all. And once it does, the perfect H will be waiting for you.

margieb and Suzie - Loved your reveals. Both very classy choices. Suzie, very clever to think of getting an H bag that marks your birth year.

Les Tambours - 30 years! Congrats!!! Can hardly wait to see your reveal.

ChocoGrace - Had a Lindy sighting on Thursday. Really it was double sighting. A set of identical twins - both of whom were carrying Lindys. One in Orange (WOW!!!) and the other in Lagon (YOWZA!!!). Tried to get a close up look but they got into their Land Rover before I could get too close. Never really thought that much about the Lindy until I saw it in person. Can hardly wait for your reveal!!

srq2009 - Since you are graduating in October, a nice agenda sounds like a geat idea. Once you start the job hunt, you'll be setting up appointments all the time and a nice agenda will be great to have - an it will remind you of your time in France. if not an agenda, what about a wallet?

To everyone else, Hello!!!

As for me, I have fallen way off the H wagon. All the talk of rainbows got me quite excited. Had already purchased a few darker rainbow colored items and thought that would be enough but then spring came along and I got the spring bug. Decided to purchase a few brighter items next thing you know I was dipping into my H bag fund, which is now seriously diminshed. Oh, well at least I have some truly wonderful items to fill my current bag, have begun establishing a relationship with an SA, and have been able to get to know more about the colors.

valencia - instead of what came first the chicken or the egg - we should change
it to - what came first the Hermes rainbow or the Hermes bag? ;)
And many of the rainbow items can be used on their own - such as using
a wallet as a clutch, so it's all good. :)

I'm sure you'll get your H bag soon. :)

oh man.... i love this thread... it's so nice to "see" all these people who love H and are willing to patiently wait/work for their dream purchases :)

Chocograce, i loooooooooooooooove your purchases... really good choices, all of them!

What do you guys mean by "establishing a relationship" with your SA? i don't "have" an SA anywhere - whenever i go into a store i just buy what i like, from whomever's around... do you mean that you will only buy from one particular person?

Thanks valencia!!

It's okay to be detracted from the holy grail a bit as long as you are working towards that goal. And I think building a relationship with your SA while at the same time accumulating an H rainbow is perfect!

BlueGenes - Am currently building a relationship with an SA. LOVE IT. At first I called stores myself (no H boutique near me), but after a while that just got old. Now (and a little too often :graucho:) I call him, he does the research for me, then he calls me back . Since I am new to H's colors and pictures don't always capture the best view, he's been super helpful when it comes to telling me what things really look like. We've talked about the fall/winter and spring/summer rainbow thing and he's keeping a catalog of what I have as well as what I've tried and didn't like (noisette PM karo) or didn't work (blue thalassa GM karo). He's also great about gathering everything I've requested from various stores and sending it on to me in one nice Fedex package so I don't have to pay tons in extra shipping. If you can establish a relationship, I highly recommend it.

Valencia and BlueGenes, thanks for your kind words!

HermesHunter, do you have a modelling shot of the ado? I've seen pictures and I am quite interested...I know there's a backpack girl still in me!

Also, Fatefull, Brennamom and KB, a Birkin or Kelly would look ridiculous in my work setting. That is one of the main reasons I bought my Lindy, yes it is such an investment, but she will be with me every day (she's sitting on my desk, right now)! Completely justifiable, right?;)

Speaking of SA's...Does anyone have a name/telephone number of an SA in NYC who could help me by phone? Need/want rain kits for two babies.

Thanks Valencia - I should be updating my reveal soon.

Valencia - you're right! I was thinking that myself. I had an LV Damier Agenda a couple of years ago. Sold it because i never used it. Looks like I should have just packed it away ;)
