I'm 38...turning 39 soon!
I had to pass through a hard period, for sentimental and job (my family's tradition went lost) reasons.
Now things are going a little bit better (I'm even considering the idea to recreate my family's activity), but in the last couple of years I've been very rational, as wasn't sure of my future. I enjoyed buying tons of books, while having the time to read them and forgot about bags for a while.
Now I want to stay rational even if my future is less uncertain.
So I don't want to waste money anymore buying "it bags", and try to focus on my style and long term choices.
I prefer to be patient, save my money, buy what I "need" (also if to be honest, we don't need designers' shoes, clothes and so on) and choose carefully, preferably spending for things that will stay with me for the longest time.
I started buying an Hermes massai a couple of years ago, and I love it.
Now I bought a 31 bolide mou. Both preowned.
Next one is going to be a red Kelly. I'll take my time, go to the store to try on the 28 and 32. I'd love a rouge H. box Kelly retourne, but I've also seen gorgeous rouge H. on other leathers (like chevre de coromandel and palladium hardware!). But no hurry: Hermés is always there, and hope it always will. Meanwhile I'll enjoy what I have.

I'm very moved by your philosphy, I absolutely agree with what you said. Sometimes we get caught in the whirlwind of "it bag" & excitement of acquiring material things, & we forget to be patient. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I am absolutely thrilled that I just ordered my first vintage Kelly! I decided to go through closet and drawers and sell whatever I don't use on ebay. I was pretty ruthless and pretty quickly I could afford a vintage model. I am now a firm believer in having one good piece that I love and use. It really feels great to streamline my closet, and I even sold random household and kitchen items. I am already saving for my next bag, an Evelyne, a Market, or dare I say a Birkin. Just wanted to share :D

I'm very sorry: hadn't read your post before. Thank you for your nice comment. :smile1:
In the meantime I also had a moment of incredible great luck and found the occasion to buy my UHG (a barenia birkin 30 or hac 32 was in my mind as my ultimate holy grail -very long term, maybe impossible to achieve, objective- and found the second) and also a vintage brown box kelly 32.
Maybe I exaggerated, as I didn't follow my schedule, but I felt I couldn't pass on the HAC being so hard to find, especially in barenia.
Now I will just invert the process and be good and patient for a longer time before thinking about a red kelly (or maybe I'll find out I'm already content), gratefully enjoying what I've found.

Hi kitkatblue, I totally understand your quick decision and your excitement: sometimes we find occasions we can't miss and going to sell something we don't love much can be very helpful. I did the same when I bought my HAC  and I'm very happy. I believe in simplicity: just one bag I truly love can be enough and make me feel lucky.

I'm almost embarrassed to say this, because it's so cliche, but my end goal is a Birkin (hopefully in Cassis or some version of Rouge). I've always loved the shape - structured yet more relaxed than the Kelly. I'm not going to delude myself into thinking I'll ever reach the VIP status needed to be sold one, so I will probably save and keep my fingers crossed that something comes along on the resale market. In the meantime though, I'll continue to collect scarves and enamel bangles, because I love those too

Converting to an Hermes devotee has surprisingly made me more conscious of where I spend in other areas. In order to be able to put away for such higher priced piece I'm now analyzing more carefully how much I am spending on take out and restaurants. One of my biggest vices was buying make-up as a pick me up. I've pretty much completely stopped that (much to Sephora's dismay), and I'm so shocked at how much I used to waste on lipstick and blush. If I could go back and do it all over again, I never would have wasted so much money on energy on stuff that just expires.

Hi Ladies...

Wud u rather grab an Evelyne for a quick Hermes satisfaction?
Or...perhaps a Lindy..
Or wait...perhaps jus a while...to get a Birkins??
*Birkins being the ultimate MUST GET*

What do you say.......??

Congrats to you on your first vintage Kelly. I never really thought of selling stuff I don't use. Thanks for the tip.

Hope you get your next H bag soon.:smile1:

I have been thinking of owning Hermes for a while. In 2009, DH brought me to Paris and went to Hermes at George V for the first time. I don't even know there's one at FSH. I saw an Arabian lady looking at 2 birkins; 35B white and 40B Indigo Blue. I asked to see the same bags but the SA told me she sold to the Arabian couple. I argued that I didn't see them walking out with any purchases. I reluctant to give in to the excuses. So, eventually she offered me 40B indigo blue. I was quite hesitate because im not sure about the size but against all odds I bought it. I'm happy to own a B but I didn't carry it often due to the size plus weight.

Recently, I went to Paris again for my honeymoon. DH promised to get me the correct size of bag so that I can use it often. This round he did a thorough research and we headed to FSH immediately we touched Paris. I developed "love" for Kelly so my initial request is to see Kelly. The SA said we have limited units available and asked my preference. In my heart I was jumping out of joy. She showed me a gold 28 limited edition bag with trimming at the side (sorry I didn't know the name). I don't like the leather and she offered a black togo if I still keen on Kelly. After few minutes waiting for my response, she said I can offer u birkin but you can only choose 1. I got my dream size and color B! Thinking back, I was really lucky to be offered both. Anyway, my main point is to buy the right bag and you'll be using it often. Be patient in searching.

Well this thread is very inspirational indeed. Haha reading this thread is like having a little angel on my left shoulder while the little red one is on my right with a fork.

Anyhows, I've always stood by my principles of getting quality rather than quantity. so far, I've only gotten a couple of Chanels ( thus my nickname) but in sight of the increasing prices & being a bag twin/triplet or even quadruplet in the street. I need to exercise much restrain to wait, yes wait for a Kelly! What a painful word. :shucks:

But I hardly buy from Hermes boutiques, so I always get shunned by SAs. I've even got my dream color planned for my Kelly, so patience is the key! :D

Thanks Babi...Yes, that one beautiful bag feels so much better than a ton of misc.items that just collect dust most of the time!

Thanks KellyBeeGirl! It's quite amazing how even small items on ebay add up quickly. I've even sold half empty bottles of perfume and was shocked people pay good money for them. And when you have a goal(Hermes Kelly Bag!), it gets addictive. :)

Hey Kitkatblue,

This is great info and I appreciate it. I will need to learn the rules of selling on ebay as I have zero knowledge. Too many stuff sitting in my closet and never really use them:smile1:. You have inspired me.:hugs:.

That's great! Especially if you have authentic designer items, they will do very well. My advice for ebay selling is to take great pictures, be upfront about condition, and block buyers who have negative strikes against them. Honestly, before you know it you will have more than enough for that dream Hermes bag!...and space in your closet!:D

I'm drooling over a Birkin for so long. But I have to wait for 10/15 years I guess. I'm 18 years old and I'm studying Fashion Management. After my school, I will start my own business, hopefully it works out and can afford a Birkin. But I have to work very hard for it and I will.
My dream Birkin would be a Togo/Epsom Birkin in Etoupe with PHW. :girlsigh:
