Hi Ladies! Thank goodness for a thread like this... I think my DH is tired of hearing me vent about my dream bag, lol. I have been wanting a Birkin 35cm in Togo either Rouge or Gold with GHW for a very long time now, but can never find one 
even though I have the means to pay for one.
Fortunately for me, DH does well financially and supports me on getting one. He loves all things classic and timeless and is a collector of fine watches, so he knows and feels my pain on why I am obsessed, lol.
DH has taken me to the H store in HK, Ginza, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Beverly Hills, and SCP. Each time, I leave sad and empty handed. We were told "Sorry, no Birkins," in HK, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Beverly Hills, and SCP. I asked to be placed on the list or do a SO and each and every time the answer is the same, "Sorry, you just have to keep checking back." However, the H store in Ginza did have many Birkins available, but none in the specifics that I wanted, so I left empty handed. I was so sad when we were back at the hotel that DH called the hotel and Amex concierge to look for it for me. Thinking back, I now wish I would've just bought either the black or tosca in Ginza since it is now impossible for me to even get my hands or name on a Birkin.
DH and I are going to Vegas in 2 months and DH tells me that he is certain that the H store in Bellagio will have Birkins, but I am not holding my breath on it. It will be a miracle if they do, and this time, I am getting whatever they have. Wish me luck!

How frustrating for you!! Lucky to have such an understanding and accomodating DH! Maybe your luck will change in Vegas!

Julemakeup, I am/was kind of in the same boat. I've been wanting a red one in ages. Last summer I even did a special order but then got a call back that they didn't have the RG anymore for a birkin.
So, this Christmas, I was offered the 35 in blue electique. It's not the red, but I couldn't resist, it's such a beauatiful color and now I'm so happy I got it. Moral of my story, if you're offered a birkin (especially black), though it might not be your dream bag, get it because you'll definitely end up loving it, and one day you'll eventually get the color you want. Also, when in Vegas, try Frances at H at the Crystal or you might get lucky at the new one at Bellagio. Good luck!!!

Congrats on the bleu electrique, it's such a beautiful color! Your story is inspiring and gives me another ounce of hope, lol. I am def not going to be picky this time around. Thanks for the info, I will check with Frances at the H store in Crystal. BTW, how were you able to do a SO? Every time I visit SCP (the closet H store to me), I would always inquire about a SO.
According to my SA, each store can SO only a certain amount per year, and they usually offer this privilage to good customers. When they turn in the SO, it takes anywhere from a year to two years till it comes. Also, if they run out of the leather or the color, they can deny your SO, which happened in my case. There's no down payment or obligations on your SO and if you don't like it, they know they would have a line of people who would take it on the spot. I saw this happen at a store. The woman wasn't thrilled with a two toned Kelly she ordered and they offered it to another girl who was over the moon to be able to buy it.
So, if you have a local SA, then having a relationship with that person is the first step. I live in California, but I consider Frances in LV one of my local SAs who always gets me CDCs, scarves, shoes, etc. Same goes for George in NY and Ian/Terry in Calif.

What a great thread! My best friend has been trying to convince me to save for a kelly or a birkin, and my SA has offered. Yet, I resist and buy CDCs, GMs, KDTs, etc. Truly, enough to buy two bags during the last few years. I think that I have reached a point where I am ready to pull the trigger. Now, I just need to look over the H leathers as my SA suggested and restrain myself on spending on other H items for a short period of time. Can I do it?
Vigee, of course you can! AS a good customer it should be offered to you if you make your wish list known. Also just remember..."eye on the prize" and dont get swayed. It will come sooner than you think!!!!
I walked into a Hermès boutique and my recently acquired SA told me that one way or another, she will hunt down an Lindy in Gold Clemence leather with PHW, my dream bag.

I think it would be good to take a look at your bank account and figure out what YOU are spending your money on. For example, I used to eat out a lot. Almost every dinner would be out. When I checked my account and saw all those charges I realized by making meals at home I would really be saving quite a bit of money every month. Now I challenge myself to stay within a certain "food" budget every month. It's actually helped me lose some weight and save money!

don't go shopping just to go shopping. only go when there is something specific you want/need! i find that if i go browse around with my mom or a friend i spend so much more than i would have, had i had a particular goal. i pick up new perfumes, gloves, uggs, a bracelet... it adds up! even if each item is less than $100. so when i want to walk around, i just walk outside instead! the mall can be dangerous.
I think it is up to you! And how much self control you have
You just have to look at each little item, like a bracelet, and say, 'would i rather buy this now, and not get a birkin later?'. i think it depends which you want more; one big special birkin or lots of small special accessories.
