To be honest I would just visit one store if I was on a schedule like that
You get into London after 2, then the queue at say Harrods may be min 1 hour long and much longer if they were busy. Then train from Knightsbridge to St-Pancreas would be about half an hour…
You need to get to St. Pancras about 2 hr in advance for your train as currently there’s a lot of queue checking covid pass… etc…It would just be too rushed for me…

That is another thing I am thinking! Plus we need to have dinner, so I am thinking I will try Selfridges and sending hubby to NBS and then go for dinner!

Such a shame as this would save so much time! Not sure why they make it so difficult!

I keep checking online but if it pops up I can't add to cart!
Because their inventory is very limited worldwide and in high demand. Bags constantly sell out so they often hold them back for known clients. As a new client it seems like the system is “difficult” but for long standing clients it seems much easier because the bags are kept for them. I wish you luck, and luckily you are going for the 22 which is less in demand than the 18, but the fact of the matter is that even if they have your ideal bag sitting in the back room, as a walk in new client they are less likely to sell it to you and they don’t care because there will always be someone else to buy it (and thus inventory checks are meaningless since just because an item is in store, doesn’t mean it’s available to you for purchase)

To be honest with you...
If I were you I'd just go for a nice coffee/ lunch instead of going on a wild goose chase.
I would just ask my regular SA in my home store for the P22 you want because its' probably highly unlikely you'll get one.
When I ask Harrods SA if I can try on a bag on display the first thing they'd tell me is that they don't have any available.
3 hours rushing around London for a bag ahead of Eurostar is just too stressful...

Holding a coveted bag for an unknown, who may or may not purchase, would be a untenable practice for a premier house whose goal is to keep stock for regular or walk in clientele.

Speaking from my very limited experience as a walk in tourist to NBS and CP, it is only once you are there in person that you can click with an SA who will then assess your needs. I cannot imagine doing more than one location in just a few hours before getting on a train. When I went to CP, I was actually looking for RTW for DH that we missed or was not available at home (CP didn’t have what we wanted, but we did get a sweater at NBS).

At CP, I made it very clear that we mainly shop in our local store, but we got into conversation with an SA about a particular ALange watch. He later offered to show us an etoupe Chevre geta, PHW, that was available for purchase. I looked at the geta out of curiosity, but I politely declined, as I am more a mini Della cavalleria person. Regardless of my particular offer/outcome, I doubt that I could have called to inquire about x item, even the offered geta, bc Hermes culture doesn’t operate that way.

ETA: while I was fortunate enough to obtain an FSH leather appt and a K25, it is clear from the Paris thread that lottery is increasingly hard to get. For many, your local SA is the easiest bet.

I don't have a home store, I live far up the north of England and we don't have any designer stores around here at all really, it is either a good 3 and half hours - 4 hours to the nearest one.

If I were you, I would pick one store and focus on it and starting a profile there. I would ask for the P22 that you want but also have other items in mind (if there are any) that you are interested in. This way, even if you don’t get your dream bag today, you’ve helped your chances for next time. Good luck!

I agree with you, I need to get dinner anyway so pick one then go to St Pancras

I agree with sticking to one store, purchasing some items you are interested in and go from there. You could ask for an SA card and explain your situation that there’s no stores up north and see if you can ask them about stock prior to your next visit to London. Would be interesting to know how your experience goes when you are here! Btw how far up north are you? Isn’t there a H in Manchester Selfridges?

I'm at least 3 and half hours from Manchester, when I went last month their stock was not good for bags at all and they had no picotins at all. I couldn't find out store stock before hand, it was a complete pain.

Ah okay… that’s a shame. Stock in general is very up in the air. Most of the time my SA will say no stock even in other categories so I always go in with high hopes but low expectations. Hope you score your Picotin!

Having shopped at all these stores for 13 years I am quite surprised by such advice. Nothing happens 'for free' without them looking for someone's purchase history.

Free bags? I must try asking for a free bag.

Royal Exchange is actually a very good store, the service is excellent, and if you become a good client, bags too. Not sure they give free bags there either though.

there are ! especially CP. know many of friends who got BK with no other purchase (just one bag in theur receipt and profile). If you already have existing relationship with SA, it may be different as SA will push cross sell to current clients. However, in the lonng-run, you may get quota bag everyyear but those walk-in can get only one bag from them.

I've been at CP many times and witnessed people turned away almost at once after asking for bags. After NBS, it's probably my go-to store. There are always exceptions but we need to be responsible. What we don't want to do is recommend people fly to London, waltz in to CP whereupon like magic, C/B/Ks fall from the sky. I can guarantee that just one single post implying bags are shelled out in such a fashion for walk-ins would provoke such an avalanche, that almost immediately CP will officially make it their policy to not offer any more bags to walk-ins.
