I popped into NBS at lunch today in search of silks, the person in front of me requested a L.A & was told to come back in 1 hour as they are currently fully booked. The SA then showed her all the leather bags available for the day (NQ bags of course), I was a bit shocked. Is this new? when did they start offering L.A's in London I thought was in Paris only.

They have done this for a while - I have often "overheard" conversations in store where people are told there are no appts for leather at this moment in time. Harrods also go one step further and close the whole queue sometimes and ask people to drop back in an hour or two - just to join the queue!

It’s not like Paris with designated appointment times.

It’s basically the walk in first come first served procedure, but once all the SAs in the leather dept are busy, they start the queue. But sometimes the queue is so long with so many clients waiting, they estimate that they won’t have enough time to get through all the clients already waiting so they won’t add anyone to the list or say there are no more “appointments”.

Hello, I will be in London for a few days in Oct and would love to get a Picotin 18 (woukd love a pastel or neutral). I don’t have a relationship with an SA there, how hard would it be to get this if I tried in the morning and what store should I try?

It is impossible to predict what the availability will be.
If you understand that Hermes is a low volume production business and that the choice available to a customer will be dependent on what a boutique happens to have at that time.
You need to be prepared to do the rounds of the Hermes shops in London and if you get the opportunity to buy a bag of a specification you like, take it there and then.
Whether you get offered a bag will depend on how well you get along with the SAs you meet.
Just be yourself - confident, but not entitled. If you try to tailor your behaviour to what you think might be required, you will come across as fake and get nowhere.
