I think you are right.I love the color now but I really don’t know how I’ll feel about the patina over time. How difficult to say no!

Hi everyone!

Long time lurker but coming out of the shadows for your expert advice on the BF please. I have a B30 in gold togo. It’s such a classic color (and I liked it) but months later, I have yet to use it. I feel like it lacks… something. Then I saw the BF in fauve and I realized it was the richness of the color that I was missing!

I’ve read the first 20 pages of this thread and the last 15. I have A few questions:
1. I’m not gentle with my bags. My SA was appalled to find a pen mark on one of my bags. I shrugged it off however my quirk is that I can’t stand uneven discoloration. Is this part of the aging process?

2. From this post, I gather that the aging process is not the same? For some it darkens and for others it becomes a “Sheen?”

There seems to be a lot of unpredictability in with BF in fauve. If I am not gentle and I like predictability, is this bag for me? Note that i haven’t used my gold! But when I saw the fauve, i immediately knew what I was looking for! It is available and I have to make up my mind soon! TIA

If unevenness bothers you, I would not recommend any Barenia version, even Faubourg. These leathers patina, and patina is by definition uneven coloration. BF is MUCH less variable than Barenia, but it is still variable, and subject to stains and marks.

Gold is an amazing option to get this natural color vibe without unpredictable results. I have multiple bags in both Barenia and Gold and love them equally (ok, except my OG (smooth) Barenia Birkin - but it gets marks and I am ok with it....it looks better the more it is used). I would stay with Gold and avoid the "heritage" leathers, especially since Box and Barenia in particular are quite a bit pricier than, say, Togo.

so I was so dumb, the bag smell so good. I sniffed it and there is an oils stain right in the middle of the bag from the top of my nose. What should I do

Don't panic! If I had done just that, I would probably get a soft cotton cloth/tshirt and get it damp with warm water and gently dab the damp cloth on the oil stain and then hope it will lift it out (fingers crossed) as you gently dab. Then I would let it dry. It should disappear. This year I bumped into someone who spilled coffee (with milk in it!) on my Barenia F B30 and I was so panicked! I took it to the closest bathroom, did the wet cloth, gently dabbing, not rubbing, then blotting up the moisture with a clean paper towel and then ran it under the warm air of the handdryer! All of this praying my bag wasn't ruined! Guess what, it all came out and no sign of it! So just take your time, be gentle, dab and blot and I bet its fine. I do put twilly's on my handles so that I can grab my Birkin without worrying about them! Patience and I bet it will be fine!

Don’t rub further it just gets more brown and spreads more and absolutely no water dabbing etc. Coming out of the box - the moment SA took the plastic off the box and pulled out the bag with gloves on- mine had ‘birthmarks’ (small brown marks), so that is what you are signing up for with this bag, and I was super worried about this aspect of the bag as I am OCD with my bags (see below the condition of my 2017 and 2018 B30s), and believe it or not it doesn’t bother me. I just decided to dive in and enjoy it and let be baby with birthmarks and probably many more to come. It truly is just what this bag is about vs Togo or Epsom. And how bada*** that is that you have a Birkin that is your personal canvas. There are no two alike out there! Just enjoy it - it is truly an unbelievable piece of art.

I think you need to be more specific about the particular bag model / size. The construction of the bag matters in apples vs. apples weight differences as far as I have noticed in related discussions.
