For the original (smooth) Barenia please post here:

Took my BF Halzan out in the rain today, because, well, it's raining! Accidentally smooshed a hand wipe (lavender infused) against one of the handles upon arrival at my destination. Was thinking "oh no!" when it made a darker spot than raindrops, and maybe there are oils in the wipe?

Everything dried fine. BF is my BFF in the rain.

Has anyone experienced these white areas showing up on their barenia faubourg? It wasnt there before when I had first gotten it and i have hardly worn it the past 1.5 yrs or so. Anyone know what this is? Ive tried the hair dryer method and it hasnt gotten better

I think there’s an earlier post on this but it’s the oil in the leather. I had it as well. A low hair dryer was suggested to fix the issues. Worked for me

Did you use low setting on blow dryer and also rub the fats back into the skin? It should work. That looks like fats not like mold.

yea definitely not mold, if anything house is prob on the dryer side. i tried it very briefly but ill try it again and see if it works thank you!
I don't own BF but my smooth Barenia needs blow drying every couple months. I only mentioned mold because that's the only other thing it could be, if the bag wasn't anywhere where something could spill on it.

oo my smooth barenia does it too! mines a kelly and usually it develops on the sides for me- but it goes away even when i just run my hand through it. does yours usually develop on the sides of the bag too?

Mine (B35) comes up with the whitish fats everywhere, sides, back/front. I just make sure to pet the bag regularly :) I had a K25 Barenia and it didn't surface these fats as much. The more leather the more of this, I think.

Yes, I have.
Long story short, after using cleaning kit I purchased from DocRide (very good kits) the final step (conditioner) masked it all...there is no sight of it...
I have no idea what it was...
I have pictures I was sharing with Annie (Docride). She told me she could take a look at it and try to fix it.
Again, after using her conditioner, there was no sight of it.

It’s a strange leather. Fragile (any bump is immediately visible), yet resilient (everything fades away).
Mine is from 2019. I don’t baby it at all. I would definitely purchase this bag again.
Together with box, it is my favorite leather. It kind of picks up who you are... i find it...living...yes.

I am so excited to have received my first Hermes Birkin for my birthday in the Barenia B30 with Gold Hardware! I am over the moon! The smell reminds me of walking through the leather markets in Florence, Italy! I know that it will patina and I should not wear it out in the rain. I have heard that if you dry it off and take a light hairdryer to wet spots that it helps. But I know this leather is meant to show time and age. I am so excited for the journey. If any of you have advice let me know! I need to get a second Twilly and a 7 RP insert next! :) Thank you all for sharing!

You can certainly wear it in the rain (maybe not TOTAL downpour, but you probably can..) Just let what ever water spots dry naturally ( no wiping, smudging, helping it to dry, etc.) It will dry on it's own with nary a stain. That's just one of the beauties of barenia.
Go out and enjoy it- it's a gorgeous bag- congrats!!
I've copied a link to FreddieMacs wonderful photos of barenia before and after rain
