For the original (smooth) Barenia please post here:

I have a B in BF. It is amazingly scratch resistant and does lovely in rain. I use lotion on my hands regularly and so wrap my handles with twillies. Lots of others don’t wrap and I’m sure if you don’t use too much lotion or dry your hands before use it will be just fine! Over time you may see some darkening where your hands go, but that is the joy of the leather!

hi Im new to Hermes and got a Barenia Faubourg Picotin yesterday and haven't seen it in real life yet. I've heard this leather is scratch resistant, water resistant but can't stand with oil? Even if you put your nose up against this leather is will leave an oil mark? How about putting up hand lotion and carry the bag? will it leave oil marks too? Please let me know this leather is not that fragile. thanks
Hello, my experience with oil is the following: it blends in within a few days if you don’t touch it. It disappears within hours if you apply talc on it and than gently brush it away with a microfiber cloth.
I spilled hot kimchi from a bun on the very front of the bag last week. I did not even immediately realized that. I applied talc after a few hours, when I got home. I was perfectly calm and did not rush to rescue the bag because I knew it would be perfectly fine anyway. There was no sign of the oil in the morning...
That being said, my handles are darkened already. Maybe permanently (I have to research that...)

Just in case this ever happens to you...

Almost died today! :wtf: I had NO idea how a speck of (what I think to be) red wine got on my BF Birkin. I always keep my bag FAR AWAY from me when eating or drinking. Granted, it was a speck and I know these things will happen if I carry the bag, but as my SA said, the first is the worst! I remembered reading that water works wonders w this leather so a dabbed a little on...my mistake was rubbing...DO NOT EVER RUB THIS LEATHER...bec you will “flatten” the grain. I thought I made it worse, but DH days it looked about the same. After I got home, I tossed and turned for a few hours...couldn’t sleep so I started researching and found this thread, and a few others. I ended up dabbing the spot w a wet q-tip, then applying corn starch. OMG What happened next was MAGIC! The spot disappeared! View attachment 4448407 (Crazy how different lighting affects the picture, but you can see the offending spot in the before picture and then, VIOLA!, it’s gone!)

Your observation is consistent with my experience... rubbing will flatten the grain a bit...
i find it’s better to let the scratches fade away by themselves instead of helping the process out too much...
For non greasy stains, a wet q-tip and corn starch sound very safe! Will keep that in mind! Thank you for this informative post!

I am considering getting this very bag!! Congrats on getting it! What size is this? Was it hard to get? Do you mind sharing the price? Please do share pics when you get it! Sorry for the many questions but I was just hoping someone here had this bag

Hi, I got it in size 18 from online, sometimes you'll get very lucky from hermes.com! hope that helps!

Thanks for this information! That's the exact bag I'd love :)

Wondering - does BF leather only come in browns? I'm a total BF newbie and love both B and BF from photos - if anyone wants to chime in re. what the pros/cons are of each I'd sure appreciate that.
