I don't know about BF being readily available, my SA told me that it only a limited number of craftsman were skilled in the time consuming manufacturing process and that it was very special and rare. Who knows?
Thanks birkinitis! I don't have a SA to ask as most of my purchases were made overseas so I'm counting on yours to be in the know [emoji4]

I was offered a BF Birkin 35 with palladium hardware back in July. At the time, I was looking for a Gold Togo Birkin. But it was love at first sight when the SA showed me the BF. I did not know anything about this leather until after I got the bag. Now I am afraid to use it because of the patina.
After following this thread, I know this leather is relatively new. But for the members who have had bags in this leather for a while, can you please let me know how the patina is developing? Is it a fast process? Is it smoothly all over the bag or different shades in different parts of the bag?
Thank you so much for sharing your experience!

You are same as me! I was originally hunting for gold. I am sorry to hear you have been afraid to use your BF - it is one of my most used bags. I don’t have regular barenia to compare, so I can’t tell you whether the patina is “fast”. I got mine at the beginning of this year and use it at least once a week. My bag looks, from what I can tell, exactly the same as the day I got it. If it is developing patina, it is very even and hard to tell on a day-to-day basis. The bag is all one color - no patchiness. The only thing I have noticed is slight *slight* darker areas around the edges and corners. I can only see when I’m about 2” from the bag staring at it. I am careful not to touch my bag with oily hands and often use a cloth to remove any scratches. I look forward to the patina because it will become even a richer deeper color. I’ll post some picture of my darkening corners so you can see.

Thank you so much for the picture and the detail description. You have eased my mind. I will take it out of the closet and enjoy it now.
Here you go. It’s SOOO faint, but here is a picture of my corner and the edging.
You can see the slight color change.View attachment 4210107
Twins..Same here, I wanted a gold 30 with gold but was offered and took the 35BF with Pallidium. Same here on the edges, if I look super close, I can see a difference in the colors on the leather but I think in my case it is the dying process- not the patina. Mine is brand new. I brought her out last night to a restaurant, but I was so nervous about spilling something on her she had to wear a napkin over her most of the evening. I was rather embarrassed. Can you carry a 35 out in the evening or is it too large? Oh well, here's the corner shot and her debut pic. Lol..today, BFF is going out during the day!IMG_20181002_135505890.jpg

Interesting you may very well have it right that it is the dying process versus patina. Ours look the same. I carry mine everywhere. I try to be careful and not take it to hazardous places - like the hair salon - but mine even came with me there yesterday by accident. Like yours, it spent the visit under a cape hehe.

I have yet to take mine out. Not because I’m scared but I live in a small suburb in the Midwest LOL. I use to live in much bigger cities where Bs are seen more (Shanghai, Bangok, Houston, Chicago, SF...), and since moving here, my style has been dialed way down.

I feel self concious taking her out! Not a BF specifically, but a Birkin in general!

Welp.

My thought process is the opposite of yours! If it’s a small suburb, I think a b/k would be less recognizable!

Ditto. It’s the same for me. When I go visit my family who live in a rural area, LV and Gucci get comments more than any H bags. I get compliments on my H silks but no one asks where I got them. H is nice and under the radar and my family would be horrified at how much I spend at H.

So on this rainy day, my effort to make my BFF feel better about herself as she ages, I introduced her to my vintage scarf collection.

Nice collection! You’ll have to post pics of your silks with your BF! Now I’m on the hunt to find a silk to match my new BF. At the rate I’m going I might move from collector to hoarder. And I hope I can age as well as my BF...champagne anyone?
