For the original (smooth) Barenia please post here:

Not that I have an offer, but still conflicted on ‘classic’ Vs. ‘Faubourg’ Barenia. L

Those of you who have this and Gold Togo, do you feel there is significant difference between the two in both look and feel?

I image Barenia Faubourg still has the sniff test down, but interesting to know on the others.

Yes, personally, I find the difference between BF and togo is significant, BF leather, to me, seems to feel more "substantial" and the grains on BF also look different and gives off a different vibe!

I also can tell the difference in colour between fauve and gold, though they look similar.

Thank you.

So in terms of feel, would you say BF is in the middle of Togo and Clemence in 'smoothness', or just a totally different texture. Or in addition that, does it have some of that tactile, sensuous depth you feel on classic Barenia, which for ar relatively smooth leather still has plenty of depth.

PS I MUST get a feel for this leather myself soon, but until then it's great to hear and understand how you all see it fit in to the H world!

I would say BF has smaller grain and flatter than togo, but not as small as Evercolor. So somewhere between Evercolor and togo.
Here is a picture of my B family for reference. My Etoupe togo B30 has fairly smooth togo grains. My Malachite Togo B35 has some beefier grains. My BF B35 is a bit more reflective and smaller grain than both my togo bags. BF is thicker than my togo bags and has an amazing depth.
I cannot comment as to smooth barenia. I have yet to acquire any! IMG_2938.jpg

Thank you so much!

What a quandary. I was offered a B35 BF PHW and have til tomorrow to decide. It is a dream. I am in love with the smell and the aging process. It is however a 35 and I really wanted a 30 BF Ghw. My run with H is a short one and in a short period of time, I was blessed with two great offers. I took the B35 togo noir. it is HEAVY but classic and a joy to carry. I am not going to have one in every color, probably a total of 3 bags. Any new thoughts on this fairly new leather? I have read everything possible about the BF. The SA said, DON't Get it wet and it is perishable, quite different from the posts here. I love a patina. Just in a quandary about another B35 versus a B30. It is a treat to get offered a bag and I don't want to make a mistake. So, appreciate any thoughts please. I am 5'7" and always in jeans. I am also 58 years old. My final bag will probably be a Kelly 28 gold with GHW. Is the B35 BF in Pallidum available because everyone wants small bags? Am I making a mistake? ahh...the color and the smell-DIVINE.

I would definitely wait for a B30 if that’s what you really want, especially if you find the 35 heavy. It is SO SO tempting to take what is offered but H is too expensive to compromise. Especially if you’re only going to have a few bags. A small family of B35, B30 and K28 sounds perfect.

I have personally taken bags that were offered that were not quite right but I talked myself into them. In the end they were not used and I lost money rehoming them.

Just adding as much info on B Faubourg as possible. Paris SA confirms that it is grained calfskin, doubled tanned, mineral and vegetal, more similar to Clemence than Togo and has a slightly more supple feel/ slouchiness than Clemence. Because it is new there is no information to add on how it ages except darkening. I am not sure if corner wear can be touched up because of this and matching the texture. Naturally Hermes will tell you not to get it out in (acid) rain, they have to say that. With thanks to the leather SA for replying to my query.

I am 5’6” and prefer B35, but it fits my lifestyle and I use it as a workhorse. I actually got the choice between B30 and B35 BF at the same time. Tried them both on. And still went with the B35. Something about it sang to me. B30s are out there. If that’s what you really want, be patient. But I wouldn’t fault you for going for the B35!

I’m with you on 35s... Sing it, sister!

Thank you Hermes for creating the splendid Barenia Faubourgh! Thank you to my SA for allowing me to visit and experience it for myself. I will post a picture on Tuesday when it arrives. I tried to post a picture from H today and the upload file said "too large" and I have to figure out how to make it smaller or less pixelated. So, I made the decision to get the BF even though it is a newish leather, perishable, MORE expensive then what I expected, I found the smell intoxicating and the color overwhelming beautiful. I guess the trend is for smaller bags and tried and true leathers and maybe people are afraid of BF or they don't like the larger size. Either way, it came to me and I am beyond excited. I love the fact that the Hermes stamp is so subtle. I hope that everyone is still as happy with their BF Today as I am today. I am a member of the BF club!
