I had an issue with ebay and decided I didn't want seller there anymore. I was told I couldn't just take myself off as a seller. the only option was to cancel my account. then if I wanted to buy I could open a new account. so now if I want to buy and I open a new account with a different user name but my email address, will that re-activate my old account?

Whoever you spoke to is wrong.

If you don't want to sell there, you just stop! Don't list items and you'll no longer be a seller. Easy peasy.

There's no reason to close your account if you don't want to do so.

In fact, for a seller who does want to close an account, it can't be done for 180 days. Ebay requires sellers account to remain open in the event of a dispute or chargeback after the 30-day MBG time has run out.

If you do want to open a new account, you need a different email address.

Hey all! I’m new to international shipping, but I’d like to figure out how to use eBay’s GSP. I am just wondering what type of international service to select. If I choose USPS first class option will eBay prompt me to ship the package to their facility? That’s what I am hoping for, but I want to make sure I am doing this right!

You figure out what kind of shipping you want to do domestically and set that up, then you choose GSP for international. You don't have to select any kind of shipping method for it. You'll use your domestic shipping method to ship to the GSP facility. If you are charging for domestic shipping, the international buyer will pay that plus whatever GSP charges them, so you'll still get your shipping money.

USPS first class has changed to USPS advantage shipping.

GSP is being replaced and will be fully replaced by EIS in September:

eBay International Shipping has replaced the Global Shipping Program (in the US) and will replace eBay international standard delivery on September 1, 2023. For more information, see our Seller Center page.

Slight correction: USPS first class merged with parcel select in July and the new service is called Ground Advantage.

I think I've already used the new international shipping system and it is basically the same for the seller except you ship to a different place. If you have listings set up for GSP, ebay automatically converts them to the new system.

Yes. Unfortunately there was no delivery estimate on the order. It just advised delivery by Royal Mail.
It wasn't until today when I *asked* for help with the order and followed prompts to file INR that I was given the information that I could file INR (if necessary) after 5 September because that's the last day of the delivery estimate window.

I'm happy to sit tight until then.
I mean the "clock" for the return window starts once the item is delivered (or the INR window using 30 days from the estimated delivery window, I believe). I think your plan to file INR around Sept 5th is certainly reasonable.

uugh
I asked them to close my account and it took a couple of weeks to do it. they say they still retain some of my information.
The reason I closed it was I was annoyed that they were able to go into my bank account and charge me some additional shipping money.
the phone rep said I could just open a new account. so now if I want to shop on ebay I have to open an account with a different email address?
I don't much care about shopping there for larger purchases but some less expensive items from power sellers have been good purchases for me - stuff like batteries, glass protector for iphone, etc.
Do you think it would be worth a phone call to ebay to straighten this out?

I think it depends on what you want to archive? I probably would just open a new account, easier and doesn't seem going to effect anything. And seems ebay encourage people to open multiple accounts to buy and sell? If they allow then open a new account, that's what I would do, but you may want to double check with ebay before open multiple accounts?

I guess I can try to open a new account with my same email address and see what happens

It's not ebay who charged you additional shipping money. It's USPS and since the label was purchased through ebay, that's where USPS goes for the money.

After eons of time during which sellers cheated USPS by unpaying for postage, either by shipping by media mail (when items don't qualify) or by claiming a lower weight for the label purchase than the actual weight, in 2017 (I believe) USPS implemented the APV - Automated Package Verification - where they catch errors and either charge senders for overweight packages or send refunds for overpaid packages.

So evidently, your packages weighed more than you claimed and you didn't pay for whatever weight parcel you shipped.

Conversely, had you paid for a 3 lb. label on an item and USPS found it was only 2 lbs., you would have been credited for your overpayment.

Note that ebay does inform you of the policy in the TOS.
