Hi, I will be buying a bag from a Japanese seller from eBay.com, the seller has authenticity guarantee. The last time I bought from them, I asked them to Ship to a USA address, so they sent to a state in Texas for undergo Ebay authentication before sending to my USA address. I wasn't charge with duties and taxes. The item is worth $1100.

Now, I am going to buy from this Japanese seller again. The value of the item is somewhere $5500. I have 2 options. I can have them ship to my USA address again or ship to an address in Japan.

Option #1 - Same as what I did before, but will I be charged with duties and taxes now that the item value is higher? How many percentage will they charge?

Option #2 - ship to my Japan address. If I do this, will they still ship to USA for authentication inspection then ship to my Japan address? Will I be charged with duties and taxes? How many percentage?

Which of the two is a better option for me? I'd like to benefit from the authentication and at the same time, no need to pay for duties and taxes or pay a lesser amount of duties and taxes.

Thank you!

I believe if you ship to Japan you can avoid duties. If you ship to your US address, you will most likely be charged duties. I don't know if the bag will be shipped to the US for authentication.

I'm feeling quite ill right now.

I've just received a message from a buyer who purchased a pair of NIB high heel pumps that were delivered to her earlier today.
She sent me photos of the terrible, unwearable damage to the heels - and truly they do look terrible, very damaged, almost as if they've been put into something very tiny and narrow and twisted about - obvious, visible damage. Looking nothing like the state of the shoes I packaged up with great care and sent to her last week.
Buyer wants to return for full refund as she says they are SNAD, but she hasn't opened a case. I don't offer returns on my listings (but I do accept returns when requested, so long as buyer pays return shipping).

I called eBay and they say they will do a Trust & Safety check on the buyer. I don't have much faith in that. eBay also suggested offering a partial refund to the buyer.

Any advice from those who've experienced this sort of thing? It's the first time for me. I assume I'm going to lose out. How should I respond to the buyer?

Thanks so much for reading

ETA :Honestly I've had more drama on eBay in the last 6 months than I've had in all of my many years of regular selling !! I haven't changed and my items for sale are the same sort of things I've always sold with 24 photos, fully and accurately described. Buyers are behaving badly IMO

I'm so sorry. I wonder if she already had a pair of damaged shoes she is going to substitute for your brand new ones.

When something like this happened to me, I found my buyer's facebook page where she was showing off the new purse she had bought from me, the one she claimed was damaged.

Wow, finding that photo must have been satisfying ! No such luck for me, I can't find trace of her anywhere.

I think most likely they don't fit or it's just change of mind.

It's so crazy that I'd try to get away with sending such obviously damaged shoes to a buyer ...

Has anyone dropped off two packages at the same time at the post office (using the self scan at the kiosk) but only have one of them start tracking? I’m kind of freaking out now because the much higher priced item is of course the one not tracking..

I’m sure a few may have been in this boat but wondered if when someone opens a returns request, does it always go in the buyers favour?

The buyer opened a returns request saying the bag isn’t leather. When i asked if she meant the bag isn’t authentic she said the bag isn’t leather and the receipt I provided has a lower price than what she paid. I just replied saying it is leather and purchased for the amount on the receipt, direct from the shop. I don’t usually have issues on eBay but I just had a feeling I would with this buyer.

I’m pretty accommodating and if the buyer had said they didn’t like the bag then I would have been happy to accept it back but to say it’s not real leather and the price isn’t what they paid has made me a little cross!

Should I just accept the return and smile?

Could she simply be upset that she paid above retail? As fas as I know, eBay does usually side with the buyer. How much would you be out in terms of shipping, relisting fees, etc. if you were to accept the return and relist the bag?

To be honest if she had said she didn’t like the bag and paid return shipping then I really wouldn’t have minded accepting the bag back but I feel a little offended that she’s said it’s not leather when it is plus the care card says how to look after the leather also.

I listed the bag for £60 above what I paid as I 1) wanted to get what i spent back and 2) didn’t want a reseller to buy it and sell on for more (they go for a little more than what I sold it for)

I like the buyer to be happy with their purchase, but equally it should be fair. I shouldn’t moan, it’s just eBay!

If she claimed it wasn't leather, it sounds like she is trying to say it isn't as described. In that case, the seller foots the cost for shipping both ways. You'll lose some money. I don't like to give receipts to buyers. I bet part of the reason she is doing this is because she is mad she paid more than you did.

I don't think you'll win a case like this but there is a chance. Since she specifically said the bag isn't leather, if you can prove it is, like you showed a picture of a tag that shows it was made of leather, you might have a chance. It really depends on how ebay is handling things like this these days. I know they want to have as little intervention as possible so a lot of these cases are decided by computer. I would call ebay and ask them if you can prove it is leather, will they decide in your favor?

Thank you for your reply.

She asked me a couple of questions before hand (like is the bag authentic, do you have the receipt etc) which made me think there may be an issue. She also said she had received a bag which wasn’t authentic in the past. When I was looking at her feedback there is a comment about the buyer trying to get her money back and keep the bag so i am feeling a little worried! She bought it very quickly so I couldn’t block her before hand.

I have asked her to upload a picture of the care card which says how to look after the leather which she said she would do, but hasn’t. I will call eBay and ask some questions but I think you’re right, I will lose out on money and I will have to pay for the return cost which is slightly annoying given none of it is my fault.

I haven’t had problems before but i think this is putting me off selling on eBay.

That's why I only have limited items listed on ebay. I avoid listing items with large shipping costs because I know I'll lose double that if I am forced to accept a return. As a buyer I like shopping on ebay due to the return policy but there are plenty of buyers that abuse it. Ebay does keep track of complaints about buyers so if they get too many they can be kicked off. I had that happen to a buyer of mine who scammed me. A few months later she was kicked off ebay.

If she files a claim then she will win….unfortunately…… so accepting the return is your only option at this point.

i did win a claim one time as a seller when a buyer wanted to return a bag due to buyer’s remorse. She literally told me that she “changed her mind.“ This buyer was quite chatty and typed me up a long message letting me know why she changed her mind and in that message she shared that she had cut the tassels on the bag to make them a little more “user friendly.” She said that this would probably help me sell the bag in the future! Lol. Her message was proof that she altered the bag and she lost her claim.
