Do NOT contact ebay through their contact links. Those CS people are outsourced help and don't have the power to do much more than tell you what you want to hear.

First and most important, respond to the chargeback with a brief and factual reply stating that the item was authenticated and found to be as described through the "authenticity guaranteed" program. Explain that ebay closed the dispute in your favor since you have a no return policy and item was found to be as described.

What you should do next is contact ebay through either one or both their Facebook or Twitter pages. Those sites are manned by real ebay employees who have the power and ability to access your account and see what's going on.

Don't post publicly. Send a message through their PM. They'll verify your identity and help you.

I don't use Twitter but did have occasion to use the messaging through FB and got my problem resolved within hours.
Thank You BeenBurned!

Hi BeenBurned, I am getting ready to respond to the message I received from Ebay regarding the buyer who filed a payment dispute with her financial institution. You had advised me to first respond to the chargeback, but I did not get an email from the buyers financial institution. I received the email from Ebay stating the buyer filed a payment dispute with her financial institution. So how do I respond to the chargeback? I think what I have to do is respond to the Ebay message I received. I have until Feb 19th to do so. Anyway I will respond and tell Ebay the initial return case was closed by Ebay because the item successfully passed through their authenticity guarantee process and is as described.

That's correct. You won't get anything from the buyer's institution. It will all go through ebay.

You respond through the ebay dispute.

Hi Everyone - It has been awhile and once again I am confused, how to post to the Ebay forum. I only see "post a reply" and not the ability to start a new question within the Ebay section of the forum. Apologies if this is hijacking another post. Can someone direct me to the right area? In the event this is the right area, I am going to post my question. I have sold mid 300 dollar range purchase on Ebay and the box weighs a lot -- it seems UPS is my best option to ship. Should I request signature on delivery with this service to satisfy Ebay protection? It's an extra charge but may be worth it. Would love some feedback on this-- thank you!

Since the ebay (sub) forum covered more than just ebay issues, it has merged to be included within the General Shopping forum.

When they redid the forum, they got rid of the ebay forum so this is the right thread.

In my opinion, I would never do signature confirmation on a sale if it wasn't required. Since you aren't at the dollar limit to require it, I definitely wouldn't add it. As long as you have tracking that shows delivery, that is all you need. Let me explain why it is a bad idea to add signature delivery. 1. There is a chance the delivery person doesn't get the signature but actually delivers it. The buyer can then open an item not received claim and win. 2. The buyer isn't home when the item is delivered but it can't be left without getting a signature so your buyer gets mad at you, never can arrange to be home when it is delivered, and the package is returned to you, at your expense. Both of these things have happened to me.

With ebay, you are supposed to show the shipping method you are going to use in the listing. If you represented that you were going to ship through USPS and then switch to UPS, you could have an angry buyer.

I agree with @whateve about not getting s.c. when it's not required.

I don't know whether you've shipped with UPS through ebay but there have been a lot of complaints on ebay's community boards about additional charges sellers are being hit with for their UPS shipments.

Apparently shipping labels generated and purchased through ebay are "estimated" prices and some of the final prices are through the roof, like HUNDREDS of dollars more than expected. And these charges are being assessed to the sellers.

Seller thought they were paying $267 for shipping by UPS and got charged over $1300! This is just one example.

Oh wow - I planned to bring it to UPS (label on the package) and confer with the company to verify. I did not know this is such an issue. Would that satisfy the problem or am I likely to be told something different (like yes this charge matches) and then somewhere in route be charged again more money? I was not planning to request a pick-up but go there directly. The reason I thought signing was the way to go was for proof of delivery since I am not sure how to track with UPS. This would be my first time going through them.

I don't use UPS but I believe if you use your own account or someone you know, the price you pay is the price. For some reason, doing it through ebay is different. You might want to read some of the posts there. Do a search of "UPS shipping charges" or something similar.

It's scary!

What is the dollar value when sign confirm is required ? I thought it was $350. I completely agree with whatever's rationale and won't bother as long as the box is trackable and the dollar value is okay. I so appreciate you two weighing in on this.

UPS gives you tracking numbers just like USPS. If you buy your postage through ebay, the tracking number will appear on the sale for both you and your buyer to see automatically. If you buy postage elsewhere, just enter the tracking number on ebay and then the buyer will see it.
