Documenting Chanel CC markings through time

mine is serie hmmm 11 something... the card is in the box (but the bag is right next to me) my mini one got a mark on the top left c, read as W in the square....

That's interesting. Thanks for commenting. If you can, could you please load a photo! If so, then please set your photo to macro (little flower symbol) and just hold the camera close or near until it focuses perfectly. If so, please watermark your photo, so no one can steal it. If you don't know how to watermark, there are threads on the purseforum telling the easiest way to do that.

My vintage Caviar Jumbo(76-79) has the square on the left.

I have always wondered about the indentation on the Chanel logo on their classic bags. I have a Jumbo which does not have the indentation on the top left hand corner of the CC logo. But I have seen some bags which do have it. I was wondering if anyone knows what is its significance? I was too shy to ask the SA in case she thought I was just being fussy.

(I got my answer to my previous question from this thread when my post was moved to this thread so my previous post does not need answering )

However, I have another question about the CC hardware in the front. I have two Caviar jumbos with me, one with Gold HW and another with Silver. The CC for the Gold is flat while the Silver one is rounded. Here are two photos to show what I mean by flat vs rounded. Can anyone shed some light as to why there is a difference? Is it the year they were made in? I know the Silver HW is the 2009 version, I am not sure about the Gold but it was just purchased from the boutique in London.

This is more of a back of a CC marking post. I recently bought two early vintage Chanels. Probably from very close release dates. Take a look at the backing plates. One of these was a D zip marking and the other is an ECLAIR zip marking. Still can't figure out which is the older of the 2 bags as there is no serial number in either.

or... are there still some that comes with the stamp in random shipments? thanks!

The hardware is an alloy containing 22 carat gold. However, some of the very early vintage pieces with CC turnlocks were not hallmarked at all. The alloy is coated onto the metal. When the metal wears down due to frequent use, climate and handling, the silver colored base metal is exposed.

The idea that CHANELs magically do not tarnish is a myth. Chanel refer to items losing plating over time in their care books (particularly the gold and black care books). Chanel offers replating services or hardware upgrades in some boutiques around the world and this is also mentioned in the care books.

Everyone that I know that has a hallmark on their chanel in made in Italy NOT France .So I'm wondering if chanel does this because these handbags are not made in france.Please everyone let me know what country your handbags are made in with the stamps.

I believe the current trend for Chanel is to not use gold plating.

Hi - Just to be difficult, I dug through mine and found a hallmarked belt bag which is a 2 series and was MADE IN ITALY (oval marking) But none of my other MADE IN ITALY items have a hall mark. Co-incidentally, only two of my belt bags have ever had a hallmark - All of them seem to be from ITALY. Perhaps the CCs for the two with hallmarks came from France and were assembled in Italy.
