Documenting Chanel CC markings through time

I just bought a used classic Chanel flap 2.55, But I remembered what I had seen in the store had nothing mark on the closing logo.

the serial number starts with 30xxxxx and was purchased in the U.S..
Serial number can you tell how old?

That sounds correct but please post a clear and close up picture to confirm. Serial number is not a date code but a sequential number and but by looking at it, will give you an idea of the year of make.

The marking is correct. However, if you want to verify authenticity of your bag, please post pictures to the Authenticate This Chanel thread. Read post #1 for instructions and post #2 for the required pictures.

i saw a chanel bag in a second hand designer boutique, it was very worn out but on the CC hardware on the top right of the right C it had a ® (registered trademark) on it, does anybody know what year this bag would be from? or if it is even a fake? (cant post in authenticate this thread as it is not from ebay)

A bag with a R (Registered Trademark) on the metal CC is definitely a fake! The metal CC is reserved for gold hallmarking on particular styles only. Fakes can be any year. Most bags since the mid 1980's will have a Registered Trademark on the inside next to the word Chanel.

thankyou very much shinymagpie! shame i typed that from my phone and bought it before i got to see your reply. it looked so real though and i was convinced it was real even more by the worn out state, i didnt think somebody would wear a fake that much. bummer.
