^no, you're not being difficult, lol. It so happens that I only end up with Made In France bags, and all of them have the hallmark. Now, if we are talking about 2009 and present, then no, the Made In Italy and France golds do not have the hallmark because Chanel did away with the gold plating ....... probably to save cost.

Back to the future.... The 70's bags had no hallmark either... until probably early 80's I think...

I'm sorry- I'm a bit confused. So if the CC has a hallmark, it is gold plated? I purchased a m/l black caviar flap with ghw around Christmas and the CC on the front has a square stamp on the upper left hand corner. I just wanted to double-check! TIA!

Sorry! It's got gold in the plating but the plating is not pure gold.

The hardware is an alloy containing 22 carat gold. However, some of the very early vintage pieces with CC turnlocks were not hallmarked at all. The alloy is coated onto the metal. When the metal wears down due to frequent use, climate and handling, the silver colored base metal is exposed.

The idea that CHANELs magically do not tarnish is a myth. Chanel refer to items losing plating over time in their care books (particularly the gold and black care books). Chanel offers replating services or hardware upgrades in some boutiques around the world and this is also mentioned in the care books.

I know that there used to be some markings on gold CC logo but I don't find that in the newer flaps. Was the change made from the 13 series? which means all 13 series do not have the markings anymore?

I'm so confused, one SA from one state said she just got the CC stamp this morning but sold it...and another SA from another state told me the flaps no longer come in CC stamp as of 2/10.

Looks like anything new won't have it from 2009.

I don't know exactly when Chanel discontinued the gold plating hallmark but would be reasonable to assume it was the 13 series since my 12 series had the hallmark.

Correct me if I'm wrong, you want to know the purpose of the small mark on the CC logo?

This small mark is the gold plated hallmark that is only applicable to bags with gold hardware. If there is no hallmark, then one can assume the hardware is not gold plated.
