In the beginning of 2009, Chanel started producing more and more classic flap bags with no hallmark on the gold hardware CC. Now most bags with gold hardware do not have any stamp/engraving on the CC.

Hi. M1ss

Good sleuthing. You have raised some interesting points so I'm splitting my response into two parts.

Fake bag. The one that you thought was a fake, what did it look like? Did it look like any of the photographs here? If it was an R, it was definitely fake. If it is an auction link, then you could post it to the authenticate this Chanel site. I would definitely recommend using it to any buyer.

Also, who told you it was a fake? For reference, Sales Assistants SAs are not allowed to give opinions on authenticity of items. It is not their job and they can make mistakes. Which, is exactly why the the policy is in place.

Chanel has produced thousands and thousands of models. Often, people post items to the authenticate this Chanel link speculating that an item is fake because it looks funny to them in some way. Usually, it turns out to be OK. But sometimes the poster catches a fake, which can then be reported and protect other buyers. The authenticate this Chanel team are amazing and very experienced. If you look at how many posts they have made, you can see that they have seen a lot of Chanels.

I also collect look books of designer products. In the last 30 years alone, Chanel has produced a mind blowing array of items. Most of them I have only seen in pictures. Some SAs might be very well informed about historic ranges, but others will only have seen the ranges made since they started working. They are also employed to sell new bags. The only way Chanel really authenticate is to accept and repair your bag. If they don't repair it, that means they are concerned about authenticity. The only exception to this rule is that they also will not modify the original integrity of the bag - eg, dramatically change a color, or in some cases, do intensive cleaning on very old bags due to the risk to the leather.

New bags with no hallmark. Some of the current models no longer have the hallmark. I don't buy these so I don't know when that started. Someone else can help you on that.

I was doing some researching on TPF to see which bag I wanted to purchase. A friend of mine purchased a fake bag and showed me what it looked like. You are correct, it does have a 'R' and the inside zipper had a round C dangling from it. Overall the quality was poor so it was pretty obvious even if I was not told.

I actually ended up buying the medium sized in lambskin with gold hardware. It did not have the stamping on the gold CC. Moving on, the plastic like authenticity sticker on the inside had 2 cc logos with the serial number just right underneath. I've seen other serial numbers being scratched off in some pictures or the cc logos in a shaded grey/black colour as a background.

This raises another point. Over the years, has CHANEL has changed the style of the serial sticker/tag inside??

Yes. Chanel changed it frequently. Please take a look at this link to see more about it. http://forum.purseblog.com/chanel-shopping/chanel-authenticity-tips-308404.html

On this link you can see many posts with different serial number styles on them.
Did you friend get rid of the bag? If not, can you take a picture of the R in the CC mark and post it please. It would need to be watermarked with the word fake for example before loading it, so that no one could make a mistake. If you need help with this I am happy to do it.

I asked the SA in HK's Chanel about the missing stamp she said the stamp does not exist on the newer 2.55 models ie. 09 and she told me usually only the new ones that are made in Italy have the stamp and mine was made in France.

She offered to search one with the stamp but I said no, seeing that I was leaving in two days.

If Chanel sees a trend that people prefer to wait and buy the MADE IN ITALY version with the stamp still on it, perhaps they will modify their design again. It seems to annoy people and I can't see why they would want to irritate their client base.

You didn't have time to wait in this case, but it wouldn't hurt to send them a letter. The address is somewhere in here. I will find it and post it.

I agree...it bothers me as well. I was at the Chanel in San Francisco and when I saw they didn't have the marking on the CC and all I thought was how it kind of makes the handbags look cheap or even fake..I thought it was just me...

This may be a stupid question...but how do you watermark the photos? I am always posting my own photos and never watermark them. Thanks!
Yes. Chanel changed it frequently. Please take a look at this link to see more about it. http://forum.purseblog.com/chanel-shopping/chanel-authenticity-tips-308404.html

Sorry can't find the address. It has vanished into tpf. Someone will know it. If you do, can you post it please.
