Hi, I don't want to misquote her, as I can't recall exactly what she said. What really worked well for me, was I purchased the Cadillac Brand leather conditioner, sold at Nordstrom and recommended by Chanel, and only using a small amount on a soft cloth, conditioned the bags, and that removed the stickiness. I must say though that doc's b&o really revived a vintage courchevel I owned.

Thank you so very much!!!

Hi doc! My Kelly finally arrived! It is a vintage Kelly with courchevel leather. However there are some scratches on it. Can you advise me if there is anything I can do to it. Also, any tips on mantaining courcheval leather? Can I use meltonian delicate leather to polish it? Thanks for your help in advance doc!! IMG_4784.JPG IMG_4785.JPG

Hello, Lovely Kelly bag. Well to me it looks not just like dryness but also color loss due to dryness.. as the leather dries out the leather shrinks some and then the finish(the color applied to the top layer similar to a paint) starts to buckle (like ice on a lake) and flake off....even if very finely over time that can lead to color loss. So in this case conditioning will darken those areas up some in fact they may go quite dark, I think the bag needs deep conditioning and color restoration to those areas. A restoring spa kit for would be your best bet,try Googling that and mabe also a color touch up kit as well. But yes you can use a conditioner, in this case because you have color--loss I would stay away from greasy oily conditioners as they'll make those color loss areas go too dark (so no saphir renovant until after color restoration) Try Meltonian All Purpose instead.
Good luck, doc
Hello Doc,

Thank you so much for the detail explanation!
I really appreciate it.
I recently purchased your "Luxury Again" kit on ebay, and will start working on this Kelly soon.
I'm not very handy, so we'll see how much I can "restore" this bag
Thanks again for our patience and contribution to this community.

Hello
Meltonian delicate is not a polish so no that's not going to work as a polish if you have it on hand you could use it as a conditioner but it sure would Not be one I would recommend as it can darken the leather
Courchevel is pretty tough stuff you can use most leather leaner a and conditioners on it as long as it's not greasy it oily type products
Start with a cleaning
Then a conditioning
Then a polish or better still find a conditioner which adds a bit of shine
And back away from your bag the little beauty mark scratches won't look so noticeable from 3 feet away
Once a textured leather such as courchevel or Epsom is scratched the scratch isn't going to buff way. If there's color loss sometimes rubbing with some pigment will help mask the mark but the scratch still remains
I hope that helps?
All the best doc

Hello all ,

Like dissolves like so a thinner waxy creamy lotion can help dissolve a a thicket one ...

I've said this over and over please stop using those products unless you know how and are using it on old box calf otherwise skip it
Again please note I no longer recommend using
Black rock or obenaufs LP
Reasons are
Folks have problems using the products and end up with issues such as stickiness
And end up using them on all kinds of leAthers which I never intended please do not do so
Thank you
Doc

Hi Doc

Yes it is fabric. Hermes canvas. Was wondering if there's a way to remove the mold.

Thanks.

Hello there,
I'm sorry I'm not handy or knowledgeable with fabrics
I don't want to steer you wrong
I know there are many mold killers but I'm not sure how your fabric will react
I would ask a fabric specialist such as a good dry cleaner for advice
You could try a mold killer such as Lysol spray carefully or other mold killer without bleach in a hidden area to make sure the fabric color stays true?
Good luck
Doc

Hi docride, thank you so much for all of your helpful advice! I just purchased a new Constance in black box calf and will be following your Rx instructions for boxcalf to waterproof it.

My question for you is about what you think the best way to store my Constance bag is. Should it be kept lying down on its back (the way it comes in the box), or should it be kept standing up? I know for Birkins/Kellys you recommend that they be kept lying down on the back panel, but I was wondering if it's any different for a Constance. Thanks for your help!

Hi!

New to this forum, which has been like taking a class in Hermes for me, educating myself enough to be able to buy my first vintage Kelly bag. Which I have now done. I am however not sure what the leather is. I thought it was courcheval, but when I got the bag, I realised that it was more of a natural type of leather, rather than a coated one. Any ideas of what type of leather this is? (Have started to polish the hardwear which is in brass. The bag is from 1970.) Great thread, and what an impressiv amount of knowledge gathered here on this forum!

Hi Doc, very new to Hermes but I bought this vintage Kelly 32 in box calf leather about a month ago. I didn't think of doing anything to it but it does have this scratch on the back. It seems very superficial and not deep but I didn't know if there's anything you recommend I try to minimize or get rid of it? Thank you!!

Doc, I'm jumping on the wagon here and am hoping you can give me some good ideas. This is my logos and it's in superb condition for 1971 except really for the strap. If you could give me some direction of what to do with this I'd be so grateful.IMG_2887.JPG
