Docride's Hermes Lazarus Thread (can this Hermes be Saved? )

Hi @docride ! Hope you’re well! I’m really enjoying my croc Birkin that you worked on! Thank you!

So I pulled out my Epsom B today and noticed this white mark. At first I thought I dribbled something on it but it’s not that. I tried gentle cleaning with leather cleaner and conditioner but it still remains. Wondering if this is “bloom”? My bag has been in a dustbag in a glass cabinet and the last time I used it was September, and I did not notice this mark. What do you think it is?
I’m going to take it to the spa to see if they can do anything about it, but thought I would check in here first.

Not sure what it is
Could be a scratch ? Yes check with Hermes. Good luck

Hi @docride !

Thank you for being such a resource on this forum! I’ve found this k32 in CDC and was hoping this would be my first Hermes. I noticed there’s some corner wear and white marks on the bottom. I’d appreciate your thoughts and advice before I pull the trigger.

Thank you!!

@docride sorry, to clarify, I was wondering if CDC is easy to spa those parts since I’ve read conflicting things on different forums and on the internet while I was researching it. Thank you again!

Hey there ,
Easy to spa ? For someone who knows how no it’s not a problem to spa or do the color touch up on the corners . For a do it yourself project , it might be frustrating and you might have trouble with the touch up color for the corners slipping off .
I hood this helps ?
All the best doc

Hi @docride !

Yes, that’s super helpful. I wanted to be sure that the Chevre de coromadel leather could be professionally touched up before I committed to a bag that was well loved! Thank you!

Hi Doc  Thoughts on this preloved Blue Paon Kelly? The touret has plate wear. Is that a no go? I love the color Paon. Thanks

Hey , Wow I adore this color !
From what I see in the photos it looks great. The tourert plate wear isn’t a game changer for me … but if it bothers you then I’d think about eventually replacing it .
All the best docride

Hi @docride. New here. Been scouring the posts of the last ten years and wow a huge wealth of knowledge and passion !

I’ve been looking for this Specific Hermes Trim bag with this double strap and zipper for awhile. The pics looked ok online and I purchased but it actually looks terrible to those who are passionate about Hermes. This Trim is from 1975. The stitching is awful and obviously was „fixed“ at home/by a non professional.

Assuming I can live with the stitching…My question is the strap, is this dry rot- Can this be „saved“ or will it fall apart on me ?

Thank you!!!

Hi
Well this is a very cool trim you have finally located. I think so long as the other side of the strap is not cracking and the leather is not crumbling or overly stiff you should be able to condition it and use it with care.
Let me know ….
I’ll check k back
All the best ,doc

Hi @docride, been devouring the wealth of knowledge you’ve shared here(thank you!) and wanted your thoughts on how to salvage my beat up sac a depeches.
1. I’m struggling to tell if this is VN or Chamonix. I was told it was Chamonix but what I’ve read about the stamp tells me otherwise. I read from your thread that is different care for these two leather so wanted to be sure before doing anything.
2. The handle is really dark, can that be fixed? I’d love to darken/patina the rest of the bag like you had done in another thread, is Hermes saddle balm and saddle oil still your preferred regimen?

TY!

Hi @docride, thank you for all the of resources you provide to this forum! I recently purchased a vintage box Kelly 15 and am wondering if it warrants a trip to the Hermes spa. There are a couple of things that stick out to me and while all in my mind seems relatively minor for a 30+ year old bag, I would love your opinion.

1) There is a smile crease in the front, I presume that is normal wear from opening the bag. Are these creases something that the spa could soften or something I should embrace given the nature of box?
2) There are small spots of what seems to be color loss that I circled in red. Honestly relatively marginal, but wondering if a touch up is possible / worth it?
3) I don't know if I am explaining this properly, but on the back sangle, there is a bit of a lift at the corner. Is this possible to have this repaired?

There are also what seem to be a couple of small scuffs / knicks on the leather, but they are so miniscule I can't properly capture it in my photos.

I can't tell how dry the leather is and whether sending it to the spa in it's current state is overkill. Would love again to hear your thoughts. Thank you for your time!

Hi @docride Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge for all of these years. I am a PF junkie for over a decade, but this is my first post and my first H leather purchase. Hope I'm doing this correctly.
I just got a Kelly 35 etoupe. When it arrived I noticed it must have been stored in sunlight. I can see a shift in color from where the sangles were closed on the flap and at the face of the bag. The leather feels good and the bag looks great when it is closed and under flat lighting conditions, but it's noticeable when opened.
It has taken me 7 years to "pull the trigger" I am about as frugal as can be - such a ridiculous comment when talking about purchasing Hermes bags:smile: I adore the bag style size and color and plan to use it as an everyday bag so don't mind a bit of corner wear and a bag that has age, but I don't want to overspend for a bag that has such distinct color shift if it cant be refreshed reconditioned or camouflaged. Also wondering if a refresh will help to reduce the appearance of the puckers across the front over the internal pocket edge. I paid 6600 knowing I would need to take it to the H spa for the flap keyhole? hardware, edges and corner touch up but didnt notice the fading until it arrived - Does this have a significant effect on its value? will this be able to be restored or color corrected by H spa? If H will not, could it be restored by you or someone you recommend? or is it wiser to return it and continue my search for one in better shape for a little more money? Thank you so much for any and all advice, and hope I posted this correctly!
