Hi @docride, thank you for sharing your incredible knowledge with us! Do you know if it is possible to get a small dent out of Ardennes leather? The bag is from 1998 in pretty amazing condition, I feel very lucky to have it, but two small dents I’ve recently noticed have been driving me crazy and are making me worried about the structural integrity going forward. The bag recently came back from the spa.

I have seen some recommendations for steaming the bag while it is stuffed, but the idea of steaming this bag gives me anxiety 🤣

If you zoom in on the bottom left corner, you can see the dent, and there is a matching one on the other side (face side of the bag, not front and back of the same side of the bag, in case that’s relevant).

Thank you!!!

Hi there ,

You can try to rub from the inside of the bag to get the dent to pop out again… I don’t believe it can be perfect but it might help some. I would be very careful of steaming or getting the interior lambskin lining wet because it can shrink the interior lambskin leather which would pull away from the interior walls , bubbling , shrinking which can possibly warp the bag .
Structurally these dents shouldn’t be a problem , this appears to be primarily cosmetic in nature. However I know this can be hard to deal with and your eyes go right to these areas when you look at your bag which can be highly distressing, .. see if the improvement can help you to be able to enjoy your bag.
Hope this was helpful,
Doc

Dear Docride, I found a beautiful vintage Kelly 28 in black box leather bag in good condition, except for an indentation on the front of the bag. Could you tell me if it's possible to reduce it using the H spa or another method? Thank you very much.

Hi there ,

What a beautiful K28 it’s charming I like it , dent, scratch and all most can be improved to some degree with spa .

Sometimes putting a stiff sided bag insert inside can help . Generally dents and deep bends are going to stay. True sometimes with spa a dent can be pushed out from the inside but they do tend to flip back inwards later on … kind of like when you break in a pair of shoes once you get a few bends in the leather those areas don’t return to the perfect like new uncreased state again.
I hope this helps ?
All the best , doc

Thank you so much for your sweet reply. I can't wait to receive it and I will definitely use a bag insert. I am contemplating using the H Spa services depending on the true condition of the bag but I am reassured that you find it beautiful! Merci beaucoup!

hi @docride!

I just had the biggest shock of my life today when I saw these white marks on my K20 in shiny croc… I looked at my other croc bags and found some weird discolouration on my matte croc roulis too… i was told that my K20 has been damaged by the sun by my boutique but I’ve never had it in sunlight as it’s been sitting in a glass case in my closet that I do air out occasionally… same goes for the roulis. Any chance it can be saved? thank you!

This is just a @docride appreciation post. I’ve never posted a question on this thread, but when I was about to take my vintage Drag 27 in to H for a spa to tackle some of the fairly deep scratches in the box leather (“before” pic), I decided to first consult the forum to see what I could do myself. Armed with info from this and other threads (and even finding Docride’s YT videos to see her buffing technique!) I put in a little elbow grease and this is the result: fine scratches are gone and the deep ones have blended beautifully (“after” pic). Saved me time and money. Just know you are helping even those of us who just lurk here!2023-04-25 18.06.21.jpegIMG_1898.jpeg

Hello there ,

I wish I had some uplifting news for you … was it hot or under lights inside the glass case ? It’s possible that some trusted professional could add in some pigments to try and help, however that has its risks also including H not wanting to accept your bag for service afterwards . I wish I had better news for you .
Sincerely doc
