Hello there ,

I wish I had some uplifting news for you … was it hot or under lights inside the glass case ? It’s possible that some trusted professional could add in some pigments to try and help, however that has its risks also including H not wanting to accept your bag for service afterwards . I wish I had better news for you .
Sincerely doc

Hi Doc!!

sorry for the late reply but an update from my hermes’ SA is that it is indeed sun damage and it’s unlikely their spa can do anything for me at this point :(. I don’t have any lights in the cabinet but I live in a real hot country (Singapore) so that could have possibly affected it. I’ve been buffing the kelly with a leather cloth and it has returned the colour but the white spots are still there. I’ve taken your advise to just sending them to a reputable spa recommended by an Hermes reseller since Hermes can’t/wont do anything about it for me.

Thank you so much for your help doc!!

I think it’s going to be delicate and possibly not come back to good condition even with a spa service .
But I could be wrong of course…
Hope this helps
I’d love to see the handle bases …
Best of luck
Doc

Wow, I don't own a vintage bag, but loved the information for if I ever consider one. Plus, the tip on not walking around with your Kelly bag opened is invaluable. I have a Kelly, and although I don't do that for fear of theft, its still good to know.

Hi Doc, I got food stains on my brand new faubourg barenia bag and have tried to spot clean with water and also some other methods such as covering the stains with corn starch/baby power.... none of them worked. Is there a cleaner that you'd recommned for this type of leather/stain? Hope to hear from you and thanks so much!!

Doc, you've taught me so much! I will post my question here to help others as well. I am so ready to make this my Special K purchase...Just wondering if you see any concerns under the handle? Looks like surface-level scratch to me but your expertise might pick up on something.

Hi there, this looks great ! Under the handle ? That’s the spliced leather coming together very nicely and perfectly executed. Definitely nothing worrisome.
I hope this helps ?
All the best ,doc

Hi there ,
Not enough photos to determine. From what I can see it’s looks ok , the cracking on the sangles shown I can’t tell how deep nor how the condition is on the underside of the sangle or even the condition of the full length of the sangle . I’d inspect the bend areas of the flap edges. Check the side gusset attachments of the side panels . See if the strap is cracking and or tearing and if so how badly ?
I hope that helps ?
Keep in mind conditioning will not heal cracks.
You are welcome to post additional photos or message me with those if you prefer .
All the best , doc

Hi @docride—

I need help determining if I should send in my 2009 K40 to H spa. The handle attachments are a bit loose and the clochette is a bit frayed. There is a minor scratch, but this is not a concern. My corners are good. I take good care of those! Any other options besides H spa?

Thanks, in advance 🙏
