Do You Prefer Size 30 or 35 Birkin?

At a point I was dead set on getting a B in Barenia leather - and the only one I found was a 30, but hey, it was Barenia, so I got it...
I am 5'9 tall, and when I tried carrying it it just looked so tiny; it was lost on my frame. A smaller Kelly like a 28 still looks good on me probably because of the trapezoid shape that makes it look more structured and formal, so it works as a smaller 'occasion' bag, but the Birkin - to me - is just such a casual style (rectangle), and looks most harmonious when it looks quite large and roomy. Especially a brown barenia, which is very casual. I ended up selling it without taking it out even once, that was a shame and I certainly learned my lesson - no B30s.
Now I have a B 35 and I'm very happy with the size. I think I could even handle a 40, size wise, but I prefer 35 because the 40 would probably be more of a workout tool than a bag for the heaviness of it!

I'm 5'9 with a slim build. I have 3 neutral 35's (am about to add another in a very bright color), and 3 30's (2 neutrals and a bright). Whenever I see photos of myself with the 35 my eyes are drawn to the bag (and the size), yet with the 30 it seems proportional. I don't see the same when I look at others. Plus the 35 is heavy, and if I've got the room I'll fill it up! I see having both for different purposes. Oddly, I tend to take the 30's for travel, since I can put them in a larger tote (for the plane) yet they are lighter for walking around/shopping etc. I use my 35's almost exclusively for work, and will probably adhere to a one-in, one-out rule in that size.
I see room for both sizes in your wardrobe, if you can swing it!

I actually think lifestyle and personal style are equally as important as height when considering ideal B size. I'm 5'4", on the slender side and my first B was 30. But I realised that I like carrying my B's in a more casual way (think with the sangles open, handles au naturel with no twilly's etc), and the more tote style of B35 was a much better fit for me. Sadly the 30's don't get much use anymore, and I actually mostly lean towards B40's these days! I think the Celine analogy is a good one...If you're more a Phantom vs a Mini/Nano Luggage person, then 35 is probably a better choice for you, even if you're not super tall.
