Do You Prefer Size 30 or 35 Birkin?

In the summer when I'm not with kids, mostly 30 as I don't carry much in the summer time. In the winter when i need to carry more (hat, scarf and what not), I tend to use 35 more. And also, with heavier jackets i think proportionally 35 looks better than 30. Also it's nice to have the extra handle drop space for thick jacket so I can carry it on the crook of my arm if needed.

I do think taller frames look better with 35 than 30 in general. I'm 5'8 and sometimes I think the 30 looks sort of ridiculous on me. Maybe after the baby weight it would look better, but for now, I think 35 is still the ideal size.

40 is the best for traveling I have to say!!!

I think that more than height, frame matters. @WingNut 's 30, IMO, looks perfect on her. I am about the same height and a similar (small-boned) frame so this comparison was super helpful to me. I wish we had a thread just for size comparison pics & that everyone listed their height (do we have one?). Even if we try one size (at the boutique) we might forget how it looked when it comes time to compare it to another...
Thanks to all of you who have both sizes and gave opinions on here! :flowers:

ETA and as others have said, the style & structure can also influence which size you prefer.

Have you seen the size reference guide in the reference library section of then forum? I don't know how to link from cell phone but there are modeling compare photos.

I think there's reasons to have both sizes. 35s are definitely more casual and can fit the stuff I need for the day. My 30s are largely more ladylike. I would not give up any of my bags at the moment.

I've been working with a personal trainer and now can deadlift 80lbs. Soon I'll be lifting over 100lbs, so a 35 is no problem.

EB, congrats on your ability to deadlift 80 lbs!!! I'm in awe and you could easily carry two or three Bs.

Major exercise envy here :)

Believe it or not, it's really fun to get strong. Being able to carry any Birkin I want is a side benefit.

It is fun being strong, you stated this perfectly, EB. I am back at the gym at 4am every morning doing free weights and spinning. A B35 feels like a little marshmallow these days when I carry one.

Am not doing any deadlifts, now you have me considering this too.

Thanks EB and VigeeL for sharing thoughts on carrying the 35 after getting more fit and strong. Like many others and for awhile I felt like 35s were just so heavy. So I have been on the fence of releasing my only two 35s (black and Gris T) but wasn't convinced. Although I'm. It terribly fit I think I am a bit stronger than before and realized I just carry too much stuff. So the two combined makes a 35 doable to use, just not all day carrying it around. So I'm gonna hang on to it a little longer. I love the 30 size for sure but think there's a place and time in life where both sizes are good to have.

Funny, now that I have a 25 I can't even think of carrying my 35. It's not a weight issue, it's just that I'm 5'4" and slim and not only is it proportionally too big for me, I realized that I just don't need to carry that much - and probably shouldn't. I'm also on the fence about keeping it, the only thing is the color combo is so me. When I have a minute I'll take and post pics with the 25/30/35 for reference.

Would love to see a pic, BBC. Have thought about going smaller than a B30 but I am convinced that only my sunglasses would fit in a tiny bag.

Believe it or not I have other lux clutches that cannot even fit my iPhone! I think that has me scared of small bags.

Do you prefer size 30 or 35 Birkins? I have a 30 Birkin but sometimes I wish it had more room. I have been trying to get a size 35 Birkin from Hermes for the past 2 weeks and it is exhausting going to the store everyday. When I was at Hermes the other day, I saw at least 5 shoppers in the store with size 30 Birkins. Seems like it is the preferred size for shopping, since 30 is the size of a normal handbag. Which size do you prefer? Describe your experience carrying the Birkin. Thanks.
I prefer the size 30...they 35 gets very heavy!

Wow woman! 80 pounds. I can only deadlift about 50.

Isn't it a nice feeling? I have been back at the weights and (trying to stay on topic here) not only does one look good sleeveless, it really does remove any bag weight issues. The only time my bags bother me now is on the shoulder especially if I'm carrying a camera and lenses. Even my Swift Toolbox is heavy that way.
I wonder if my Barenia 35 will go over the shoulder as easily as my Clemence one did (yes the Barenia is still in its box...). I find a full Birkin or GP easier on the shoulder than a shoulder strap bag.
