It sounds like you got your feelings hurt because you couldn’t get what you wanted, when you wanted it. :P
No need to get upset! It’s just a handbag.

I know it’s just a handbag but it’s the principal of it that annoys me. I’m annoyed that a place like this has lousy customer service with getting the items a customer wants. I’m also annoyed that they get away with it.

I understand. However, I don’t equate the lack of product availability with “lousy customer service.”

As stated by others, Bs and Ks aren’t rare per se, but there are more people who want them than inventory. That’s a testimony to Hermès’ fantastic marketing strategy and ability to sell a simple leather bag for 10K+. I think it’s genius.

You wanted the bag and now you are frustrated because you can’t have it right away. From H’s perspective, that’s a win-win. You want to belong and you can’t just yet... even with a pile of cash in your pocket!

I’m not chances are I’ll look into buying it another way.

You know that even if you buy it from a reseller H already got your money, right? But again, to reiterate, Chanel does this too. If you hadn’t been there before, and you walked into a Chanel and said you wanted a black Caviar Jumbo with silver hardware, they’re gonna tell you they don’t have and they’ll put your name on a list.

It's okay for stores to have unavailable products. It happens. But usually, when that occurs they assist you by putting you on a waitlist, or telling you how to achieve the product in the future.

Does Hermes do that?

Yes!!! That’s what we’re trying to tell you. And not only is your SA looking for what you want, they’re also snatching things that come in their shipments that they think you will like. And some are so good at knowing what you like, they pick something you may not even thought of.

The business model seems to be working in Hermes favor, if we are being honest. But a big part of it is Hermes developing clientele, who continue to explore what Hermes has to offer, versus handing out Birkins and Kellys to one time buyers.

I am considering entering the world of Hermes, but I think I will start with an Evelyne and then go for a preloved Birkin (in pristine condition) and I have no problem with that. I understand why the bags are in high demand and why they don't mass produce the bag. So I don't hold it against them nor do I consider them snobby.

When I first started shopping at H years back, I made it clear that I wasn't interested in anything except scarves. Recently, I was asked if my stance had changed because I'd spent enough to be considered for a B/K/C. I'm still only a silk gal
When I can spare the time, I people-watch at H. I'm pretty amazed by the walk-ins who say they want to buy a B/K/C. No offence to the OP, but some of these people do act quite entitled - they openly say they have money to burn, so why can't they get what they want.
I don't choose to play the game because of personal preference, but I do think H has built up a mystique which successfully creates an illusion of exclusivity and under-supply. It can be a fascinatingly masochistic model for sales. Customers like the OP may not like the illusion or the snobbery, but they can also choose not to play the game since there are other sources for bags. If they want a bag from a boutique but don't want to play the rack-up-your-points game, then they have to play the other game known as the FSH roulette :P

Well, they should grow the hell up and stop acting like snobs.

Truth is, most businesses don't act like jerks.
I love the every single crap I’ve bought from H, I’VE HAD A BLAST AND BONDED WITH LOTS OF PEOPLE HERE BECAUSE OF THEM, have met some amazingly talented people who work there and being offered a K/B is an absolutely exhilarating experience!
We’ve all been snubbed at a club, been rejected by someone we liked, didn’t get reservations at a hot restaurant or got tickets to Hamilton lol That’s just how the cookie crumbles, my dear. Doesn’t mean we have to be salty about it.

My favorite part is people ripping into them who do not shop there (often or ever), calling them some strong names, YET (like others have pointed before) THEY STILL WANT THINGS FROM HERMÈS?
If I thought a brand & their business practices were that despicable, I would never give them a dime of my money! Not the store, website, resale market (which is the same as giving H money) or would wear it if someone gifted me something. It’s like ripping the most popular girl in school to shreds but want to hang out with her because of her popularity. It’s hypocritical, sorry.
Grace Kelly also wore Gucci Bamboo bags and many of those designers make other things than Hermès scarves. Buy a Kermit Oliver drawing, since you’re such a big fan of the artists and not Hermès.
I don’t like ‘dirty’ or dad sneakers, but I don’t go into their threads telling them they’re ‘disgusting’. They’re not my style, so I simply don’t buy or wear them (and for those who do, enjoy them).
No different than suggesting that people who are so DISGUSTED with those SNOOTY JERKS at Hermès, simply don’t shop there.
