It's their business model and so far it is working very well for them. That's all there is to it. If it's not for you, it's not for you. I can't be bothered with it either. A kelly or birkin are just bags, I wouldn't waste any energy getting worked up about them. As many others suggested already, try the reseller market if you really want one of these bags and don't want to deal directly with Hermès (understandable). There's an enormeous selection out there of birkin and kelly bags that you can order any time thorugh resellers.

I also wanted to throw the idea out there that Hermes is a target for getting robbed. My Hermes store did and, of course, the targets were the Birkins and Kellys. If they let anyone come in from off the street and view their Birkin and Kelly selection then they've just opened a window to a stranger of their stock, making it easier for someone to know what to take and what to look for.

Somehow Chanel allows people from "off the street" to see what they have in stock, yet I haven't heard of any higher robbery rates. Maybe they have better security.

The average price for Chanel bags and Hermes bags is very different. Also, Chanel does hide stock and tell people they don't know "No." Mine dose at least. I've witnessed it. Both the Chanel boutiques in SD do turn unknown customers away. They have much more floor stock out for viewing but they do hide things too.

actually this particular sales tactic is the reason they have built a brand worth several billion Euro without having a marketing department. you may agree or disagree but it is clearly working for the company.
yes in 2006 we also experienced the purchase of a Kelly by just going to the store - and there were multiple options (B and K) - a few years later this is no longer the case. personally I love shopping at H but not for bags - I tend to buy those in the secondary market. plenty of reputable resellers that you can buy from

Dear post starter, maybe the following would help.

These are the things I have considered before entering the world of orange

Do I like the brand - Yes
Do I like H bags - Yes
Do I like Hermes items other than B/K/C - Yes
Do i like the games - No
Am I willing to play the games - Yes

To me, Hermes is special, and B/K/C are exclusive for a reason.

That's why there is a reseller market. Sure, Hermes is the poster child for snooty bourgeois capitalism(Legit surprised the current French riots haven't targeted high end retailers). Yeah, the games are stupid as heck, and yes, there is even unofficial policies for racial and gender preferences(Which I have been subject to at different stores in different states).

But it's a complete myth that Hermes products are "rare and exclusive". Look at the resell market: It's flooded with everything Hermes imaginable. Even assuming half that if fake, there's still nearly as much H product on the market as Louis Vuitton. Use this market, create your bag options(size, color, style, leather, hardwear), find your bag, get it authenticated, and buy it. No fuss, no muss, and you can do it lounging in your favorite pajamas. Are you gonna pay more on the resell market? Probably, unless you buy something vintage(Which is easily done if you are wanting, say, a black Kelly 28 in box leather with gold hardwear). Unless you want an exotic, you'll end up paying the same you would "playing the game" and buying other H stuff. And if you *only* want a Kelly and nothing else from the brand, you still "break even"

If anyone can walk in and buy whatever they want especially B/K because they have the money, do you think there is 1 left when it’s your turn?
To think that because you have the money they should sell it to you is in a way, a snobbish notion.

All other stores have the item available to those that want it. Hermès is the only one who acts like this.

Have you experienced this firsthand?
Or just assuming things posted here are absolute truth?

Because I never had any issue buying anything. At any hermes store.
Or getting it sent from other store to mine.
Imo, quota stuff is imaginary bullsh!t. But, just my firsthand experience.:shrugs:

Completely agree!!! Quota stuff is BS !! Never had to spend $$$ just to get a B/K/C in normal or exotic leathers. I wonder if its just SA that do it (telling customers BS abt quota)? I have always dealt directly with the SM (aus, singapore and Nyc) and never had that experience. When at the FSH, deal directly Michael Coste- he is super nice.

Money is money; goods should be available to whomever and that is the why I was able to purchase a Kelly off the shelf years ago. If all companies operated on today's Hermes model, how long do you think they would last? Worse yet you are this ethnicity or look, speak a certain way ergo we are say no to you. The only reason h can play this is because once in you are in; it matters not if you buy just to resell. That is the rub right there. We have seen floor to ceiling closets filled with Hermes. Truly gasp worthy and I say really, how many pursed does a person need? Anywho it is what it is and we all see things from a different perspective. Namaste.
