The thing is, if I spend $12,000 at a Four Seasons hotel or on a first class flight- I'd be treated very well. If I went to Cartier with thousands of dollars, they'd be happy to sell to me. These are 'exclusive' brands that don't act like jerks.

A Birkin / Kelly does not cost $12,000. It costs $12,000 PLUS all the scarves, leather goods, belts, weird things that you wouldn't have bought if you weren't interested in the B K. It's a classic trick called 'upselling' except at Hermes its done in a weird, insulting way. A reseller will sell you a B K for extra thousands- but to me, it sounds worth it. You get to pick the colour and shape. You don't have all this random crap around your house. You don't have to beg or convince someone.

For me, there is no way the experience is 'worth it'. It sounds very stressful and boring, to be honest. Sounds like begging. Idk about everyone else, but I don't feel 'exclusive' when I beg.

Your choice at the end of the day- but to act as if Hermes aren't a bit snotty is strange. You are paying a premium, so you do deserve fantastic customer service.
Every time I go see my SA I get FABULOUS service and not only from him but all the staff and I have not bought a K or B. I've been offered but I'm not interested. I love everything else I've bought. Their bracelets are amazing, they have a bag type and color for every Who and 1000's of different scarves to compliment any wardrobe. Even my husband, who does not like to spend a lot of money on much, bought a few ties and their cologne. He always talks about how awesome his pink tie is from Hermes (the only pink item he has ever owned). The K and B are just a small slice of what they have to offer. I'm sad for you that you don't want to experience that. Maybe Hermes is trying to bring back the days that you converse with the people you interact with. In America, we go to the grocery, barely looking at the people there or the people checking us out. We at always in a hurry, no time to talk with anybody except the Bluetooth in our ear. At Hermes, it's like going to a family owned grocery store. They know you, they know what you like. We act like a society and not just capitalistic jerks. It's not about selling as much as possible, it's about appreciating loyalty.
Also, why do you want a K or B? Just because everyone else has one? Just because the Kardashians like them? It's because they are the best quality. Do you think that a company whose bags are of the highest quality in luxury bags would let the rest of their stuff be crap?
Also, to say that Cartier, Chanel, The Four Seasons, and 1st class are not snooty is ridiculous. You don't think that they hide items for their best clients? I know Chanel does. You know the Four Seasons would kick your butt out of the suite if some celebrity came and demanded that room. Even the family owned shops like a butcher or bakery with put their best stuff aside for a loyal customer. It's called a society. That's what Hermes wants. If you go the mothership, that's just a tourist attraction but buying a Hermes elsewhere is different.
Lastly, different bags fit different lifestyles. Just because the Kardashians carry Birkins doesn't mean it is the best for you and having an SA helps you figure that out before you put $12000+ on a bag that you find you don't really use. Birkins are heavy, there is no shoulder strap and depending on how you close it, they're hard to get into. The Kelly has their own issues. So, I wouldn't want to put down all that money for something that I find I don't really like. It takes time when you are spending that much on something that is also supposed to be functional.
PS---please just give H a chance, not for the B or K but for everything else they have. You will not be disappointed.

Well, they should grow the hell up and stop acting like snobs.

Truth is, most businesses don't act like jerks.

These brands have been around far longer than you have I am sure and very successful. If you don't like their business model then stay away. The ones who should grow up are those that constantly whine, rant and complain!

I'm well aware that some luxury brands have 'snotty' instincts. On another thread, I ripped into Chanel. I just think it's important that we create a culture where we are critical of the customer service we get considering you pay alot for the products. I'm glad you've had terrific experiences at Hermes, and I hope if I ever go there I would to get terrific service.

I want a Kelly because it reminds me of Grace Kelly, one of my favourite movie stars. It also reminds me of my deceased nana who I love and was very fashionable. Birkins don't currently interest me. I'm thinking of buying some scarves from Hermes because I like the artists they collaborate with. I'm not writing Hermes off entirely- but I am writing off buying a Kelly or Birkin directly from them because I feel it's cheaper in the long run if I go into the reseller route.

Hopefully that's clear.

AFAIK the whole quota system where you have to buy a certain amount of things only exists in the US.

If you go to Japan or France (and sometimes Las Vegas?) you can buy a Birkin or a Kelly directly if they have one in stock.

They don't have as many in production, though, so you're usually limited to what they have in that moment.

WAIT! WHAT?!
I have been treated like poo by people who work at McDonalds before for asking for no tarter sauce on my fish sandwich. I mean really.... What on God's green Earth are you talking about?

It is true that they should not act snobbish because after all... SAs have retail jobs... many previously worked at Abocrombie (or whatever) ... point being, they certainly don't own the Hermes botuique... so what's with the snobbery anyway??? Truth is, I have changed boutiques based on this factor alone. It didn't however make me stop shopping with Hermes because I also love all the "random crap around my house"... and on my body! I am an Hermes client and I LOVE HERMES!!!!! I won't buy something I don't LOOOOOVE! My personal problem is I love almost everything. But I digress.... I do understand what you and OP are saying but it is what it is. I will not beg a sales person for anything. I will walk in any boutique with confidence and if I am snubbed, I will not shop there. I will take pictures of everything and send a list to my real SA hahahahahaha

Bottom line is that I want my experience to be positive and relaxed... Soooo I picked a boutique that has that vibe and an SA who is down to Earth. THAT is where I spend my $12,000. Repeatedly. My friends and I are all treated FABULOUSLY!!!!!

I do have to admit though... One bad thing about H that has rubbed off on me is this... I have become a serious BAG SNOB ((((shrugs shoulders))) hahahahahaha Nothing else will do. period.

yea right hahahahaaha

Let me rephrase it: You should EXPECT good service, whether you are at Target or Prada. Of course, we all have our own experiences.
absolutely! sometimes you get snubbed because the sales person is just lazy or is in the middle of a highly important gossiping session when you arrived... and it actually has nothing to do with snobbery. hahahhaha
