Comparing leather by Year and Season (best, worst, characteristics)

OMG I love 04 leather. It's even better than 05 imo. I have a black first (pewter hardware) and the leather is the softest leather I felt on any leather bag-really it's just like butter. Definitely worth it!

Great input ladies!! I'd love to hear more! I too am always wondering how pre-05 leather feels. I'd say common descriptors I consistently hear are super soft and smooshy and thick!!

Love it! I have a black First w/pewter hardware from 04 and it has the softest leather of all my bags. When I got it (pre-loved, of course) and took it out of the package I just sat there touching the bag for a while, because it was so soft. (Sometimes I still do that - I "pet" my bag! I bet people think I'm nuts.) The leather seems thicker than the leather on my later bags, too.

i've gotta agree with ceejay...
once you get an 04 bag, you will be hooked on the older leather...
i have an 04 s/s grey city, and it's so smooshy and soft and falls into a heap like melted butter...
so amazing!

If you're not convinced yet, I don't know what I can add to sway you! It's incredibly smooth and buttery... I'd add that it's less distressed than 05 leather - and while I'm sure there's plenty of variation even among 04's, I've found it to be smoother than other years. I've owned a S/S 04 Grey and Black cities and F/W 04 Marron city (as well as some accessories). Leather is suuuuuper rich and yummy. You won't regret it!

Let's say, I am holding on to my dear 04 Lilac because the leather is pne of the best amongst my other bags (including the infamous 05)

I have a seafoam and an anis city from -04 and the leather is TDF! It feels like silk!!!
