Coach vs. Louis Vuitton

A lot of great minds thinking alike here, right now! I absolutely know that an LV or two are in my future. There are only two on my wish list because I must have the abiltity to carry them on my shoulder. But....I defintely wanted them to look like a purse rather than a tote. One is an everyday bag and the other is an evening clutch.

These are the two: Damier Trevi.....(the versitiity is fantastic). I love the classic shape of the Trevi and the fact that when she is being carried handheld, her shoulder strap doesn't hang way down past the bottom of the bag. That was a main issue I had with the Steel Sabrina I returned....i just didnt' like that long strap hanging way down past the bottom of the purse....I expected to get caught on stuff all the time.

The second bag I want is in mono and would be more of an evening bag. It does come in the Damier, but I know that I want to have one LV that does have the traditional monogram. This bag can also be carried two ways and the long strap is detachable. I  the pretty chain strap!

The Monogram Canvas Eva:

Great discussion!

Twingles: You should definitely get the Trevi. It's gorgeous and as you said, versatile. I love carrying her especially with her yummy red lining. It's also a great style both as a handheld and as a shoulder bag.

coach is affordable luxury, and very nice quality for the price compared to other brands. I have owned a lot of Coach (50plus) over the years. Coach was my first taste of luxury and is still my first love. But over the years, Coach has transformed to more trendier styles ( or i''m getting old), that the new styles don't appeal to me as much. I stil love the old legacy leather, and the old legacy pieces that i own. However i found the Coach canvas is very durable and easy to take care of and affordable compared to other brand canvas ( etc: gucci, Lv).I only have one LV, and probably the only one. I'm not a big fan of LV, b/c i see most LV are fak around me. But Coach has become so popular with the signature lines that everyone is carrying a Coach now and there are a lot of fake out there. I'm more a leather purse person. Besides Coach, i explore to other brands, like Marc jacobs, burberry, kate spade. LV leather is just way too expensive, and i don't think it's that expensive to make LV purse.

Not to bash you, but these threads never have good endings and always tend to get a bit biased.

I say wear what you like. My collection is all Coach right now, but I just ordered a pre-loved Speedy 25 due any day on my front step. I don't really have any brand loyalty... it's what I can afford, and what styles I like. Some LV bags are absolutely gross, just as some Coach bags are. It all evens out.

In a lot of ways though, Coach is more bang for the buck if you think about it. LV canvas bags run for 700-800++ but all leather Coach ones are only around $500 nowadays..

^^Twingles: Just make sure you don't wait too long... The first time I saw the Trevi, I said I had to get it. At that time they were the original price (I forgot how much, I believe $1450ish for the PM) and I didn't get her. The next time I looked, it was I think about 200 more than before. I was bummed... then for sure my DH wasn't going to let me get it so I never held out hope. One nice day in October... we went to LV and I just wanted to check it out again thinking that they were sold out of it just like they had been for the past few months... one left and my husband said yes!!! I was so surprised. Jaw dropped to the floor. You won't be disappointed with this one! Hope you get it soon :woohoo:

Bottom line: You should buy what YOU like and what YOU can rationalize is a good and affordable value to YOU!! This answer varies for every person, and there is NO right or wrong answer!!

No truer words have ever been said....
Different strokes for different folks!

I am glad that no other designers purses have caught my eye though.
Coach to me is what I like even though I could splurge and get a higher end bag if I wanted to.

I never thought that I would see the day where I paid $500+ for a purse and not even think twice about doing so!
But here we are.....just dont tell my mother that I do. :faint:
She gives me enough greif about my Tag Heuer watches so she would really freak if she saw I had a LV bag.

jen1983: I know, I know!! Actually DH just said last night that I should go ahead and order the Mono Eva (which I did......my FIRST LV...can't wait until it arrives!!). He knows I hope to have the Trevi, too and said that he thinks that would be a perfect Mother's Day gift! Here's hoping!!

^^Ooooh congratulations!!! I think you will love your new purchase! And hopefully in a few short months the Trevi as well. Make sure you show when you get it. Take care and enjoy your new bag!

I would say I agree with all the wonderful comments all of you have made. I have always loved coach but I bought my 1st LV about 2 years ago ... a monogram speedy. I travel a lot for work and am often away for extended periods of time. I can usually take two bags at the most with me. I had a closet full of bags that I never used and some which I didn't even miss. I sold a ton on ebay and bought a LV Monogram 30 Speedy, Wallet, and cosmetic bag. I wanted a classic piece that I could carry everyday. It was the best purchase I ever made. I have carried that bag all over the country and it still looks new. You do have to worry about the handles in inclement weather but other than that. A year later I decided I wanted a bag that didn't scream "designer bag" so I bought a Black Epi 30 Speedy. I have gotten so many compliments on it. This year I took the plunge and bought a Damier Speedy 35. It is great when I travel as it carries a little more and I don't have to worry about getting the handles wet. I know folks have said they worry about using something they have spent so much money on but the quality is great and I have had no problems.

On a side note I have always loved and always will love Coaches beautiful leather bags (anything legacy I tend to think is TDF) but sadly my back doesn't feel the same way. The other reason I bought my LV's is because not only are the beautiful, classic pieces, but they are light weight. The epi leather is light as a feather.

ouch that was a bit harsh ......

coach is alright, but its kinda pointless buying a bag for $400 and then a few months later its at an outlet for $100 ... and these days seems like every1 has a coach i see like 500 a day, i prefer LV because its classic and never goes on sale so the bag holds the value to it ...
