I've finished a few bags, though nothing really remarkable as far as transformations. I was lucky to start with bags that basically just needed re-shaping and some love. All got a Dawn bath and scrub, rinse and stuff to dry. All got at least 2 rounds of Leather CPR and were finished with Blackrocks and Obenauf's with lots of buffing. First is a vintage black Saddlery Bag #9535 $19.99. Next is a black Tribeca Shopper #9098 $7.49. This one had a little worn spot on the bottom piping that I filled with Leather Refinisher. And last is a dark navy vintage Lindsay Bag #9888 $14.99. It looks black in the pics, but the suede inside is definitely navy. All came from GW...prices include coupon discounts!
They look great! Is your Tribeca tote lined? I found a BT Tribeca tote myself last week (the one strap version) and it's lined with black satin, so I'm a little nervous about the color leeching out of the bag. I was so excited I found it but I'm making myself be a good daughter and give it to my Mom for Christmas after a thorough cleaning :-P

Hey guys do marks and stains come out of vachetta leather? There is this bag that I really want but it has stains. It is on the expensive side so I do want good odds! Plmk! As soon as you can!!!
The chances of getting any stains from vachetta are very slim. Vachetta is essentially untreated leather so it doesn't have a protective coating on it. If you were to buy a vachetta bag brand new, it would get a lovely honey color over time from absorbing the oils in your hands. I personally have a thrifted Coach bag that has vachetta and have been unsuccessful in getting stains out and I've tried a lot of things (magic erasers, pencil erasers, white vinegar and goop.) I have heard mixed reviews though that baby wipes without alcohol, oil or fragrance makes a difference, but I haven't tried it myself yet.

I've used vinegar with a magic eraser. It won't get rid of all stains but it will lighten the vachetta back closer to the original color.

Great job as always Joodlz.

My sister snagged this 1996 Station Bag #5130 for $17.79 (splitting a $5 off coupon with me) at GW during her visit from Seattle. I already had one, or there would have been a brawl :) Good condition, but all the piping was faded. She got a kick out of watching me "fix" her bag and bring it back to being "new looking" again. The piping color was restored simply by good conditioning and finishing!
Your sister must be in awe of you. Bringing the colour back is the best part of rehabbing. It's like being a magician!

That's interesting. Why are considering gloss varnish?
Because it is really dull. I rehabbed a Fendi. It looked horrible. I put acrylic gloss varnish on it and it looked almost new. I remember Joodlz used gloss varnish after she touched up leather with acrylic paint. The Dakota looks dull and it looks more dull where I touched it up with paint. I don't want it to look too glossy but I bet they were somewhat glossy when they were new. Maybe I can dilute the varnish with water to make it less glossy.

I don't know if water would be enough. I would think a matte one could be a better bet if the varnish you want to use comes in more than one finish.

I love NYC burgundy leather. I finished my Classic Pouch. Not perfect by any means. She has some scratches and the colour didn't quite come back on all the piping but I didn't want to paint her.

Those really are beautiful and I am especially impressed with the Tribeca Shopper. It has really kept/returned to(?) it's original shape beautifully.

Any suggestions for a push button clasp that won't clasp? It's on a pretty little Chrystie that is in otherwise great condition. I love the look of those vintage push button snaps-- do they have a different name?-- but frustrated that this one isn't working well.
