HOWAHYA?? I have a funny "Not a REAL DREMEL" story for you!! BTW, I hope that Disco Bag wasn't on MY watch...I am covered in black shoepolish & steel wool..I need a vacation!!! xo S.
Sounds like hard work.

Will acetone remove shoe polish?

Do fake Dremels work on authentic bags or can you only use them on fakes? :p

The Disco Bag was MY stupid mistake. I'll give the seller until after the weekend to reply.

AHA!! That was my question for you!!!..WHAT does acetone remove? probably the rest of my fingerprints??..I have had nothing but trouble with every bag lately..but~ c'mon!! what are the odds I end up with 2 giant duffel sacs coated with shoepolish...GRRRR..:noggin:. So..I'm seriously considering the acetone,(no!no!no!) I just hate using chemicals,,and the nail polish& remover smell? That stuff kills me ...:cray:

As chemicals go I don't think acetone is too bad unless you drink it or inhale it, it's an organic compound and it is actually produced in the human body. (I've been on Wiki again!).

Acetone dissolves just about anything, including fats, oils and waxes. So it should shift shoe polish easily. It is water soluble which is why I rinse the bag after using it. Buy the industrial grade stuff and use it outside. Apply to a cloth or towel or old t-shirt and rub it on. You should be able to minimize exposure to your hands if you keep the cloth bunched up or if you wear rubber gloves.

Sounds like perfect rehab weather. And that MK bag is gorgeous!

Yeah, there's nothing better than Fall (and Winter) in Florida...I grew up in Indiana...never thought I'd look forward to Winter :) Love this MK bag...leather like buttah, heavy Chanel-weight chain. But it was the BIG faceted "jewel" closure that sold me!

Wow that MK clutch is so cute and a great bargain. I've had a few MK bags that I've sold on, and to be honest I haven't been overly impressed with the quality (spoilt by vintage Coach), but that one looks good.

Thanks...it's really hard for me to leave the house without a Coach, but I'll try with this one!

I have a couple of MKs. I'm in love with my suede one, which was made for factory stores. The quality is fantastic. It surpasses Coach in some ways. It has a very clever way to hide the handles if you want to carry it by the long strap. And it has 5 inside pockets, rather than the 3 that recent Coach bags have.

The main reason I haven't bought any MK recently is that I hate the metal logo they have been putting on the front of their leather bags.

My first MK is a huge, BT tote with the logo plaque on the front...the bag is so big, the plaque is dwarfed by the amount of leather, so I'm good. Oh and it was $4.99...what's to hate? Couldn't pass up the Jewel!

I've finished a few bags, though nothing really remarkable as far as transformations. I was lucky to start with bags that basically just needed re-shaping and some love. All got a Dawn bath and scrub, rinse and stuff to dry. All got at least 2 rounds of Leather CPR and were finished with Blackrocks and Obenauf's with lots of buffing. First is a vintage black Saddlery Bag #9535 $19.99. Next is a black Tribeca Shopper #9098 $7.49. This one had a little worn spot on the bottom piping that I filled with Leather Refinisher. And last is a dark navy vintage Lindsay Bag #9888 $14.99. It looks black in the pics, but the suede inside is definitely navy. All came from GW...prices include coupon discounts!

My sister snagged this 1996 Station Bag #5130 for $17.79 (splitting a $5 off coupon with me) at GW during her visit from Seattle. I already had one, or there would have been a brawl :) Good condition, but all the piping was faded. She got a kick out of watching me "fix" her bag and bring it back to being "new looking" again. The piping color was restored simply by good conditioning and finishing!

That is a beautiful station bag. It is so cool to watch the transformations. So, is your sister hooked? Will she join in the rehabbing quest saving beautiful vintage bags?

BTW, came across my mom's 1980s LV speedy bag yesterday. The poor thing is in shambles, cracks everywhere. I never knew the body of LV bags is not leather! At first I jokingly shamed her, but upon close inspection of one of the cracks, it's very thin. I then found out LV is not leather. We looked up what vintage Louis bags are going for and many with damage have the same issue, cracks starting.

Granted I have no idea what the proper way to take care of a LV bag is and the dry cracks are probably preventable, but I thought it was interesting that a $2k bag can't hold up against a $400 bag. I love my vintage Coach bags even more now.
