Welcome Mary...this is a beautiful bag and should rehab well. I've done lots of suede, usually with good results. More comments below...

I agree with two.time.bags, though I use baking soda by itself (no vinegar) and scrub with a nailbrush in a circular motion while in a warm, Dawn bath. I also continue to brush suede as it dries to further lift the nap. Check out pages 348 and 363 (sorry I don't have access to links in this computer) for 2 Soho suede hobo rehabs...one I used baking soda, the other just a bath. Good luck...can't wait to see.

Hello JOODLZ,
Thank you for the info on pages 348 and 363 - you did such a beautiful job rehabbing this bag. Such a pretty color. Now I have a game plan to rehab my bag. I'm not as nervous now after seeing that it can be done.

Do you use a spray protector? I have Apple Garde Rain & Stain.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to help me. I'll let you know in a few weeks
after I give a go.

Mary

Hello,
What a pretty bag and functional! Thank you so much for the suggestion. Coach is hard to resist - the quality really stands up over time. I've learned so much from this forum. I'll have to look at the tutorial again on how to spot a fake.

Thank you!
Mary
Don't rely on a tutorial to determine how to spot a fake. Some are full of misinformation. There is so much you need to know in order to authenticate, it can't be explained in a tutorial. A lot of it isn't published. If you find a bag you are interested in, I encourage you to get it authenticated. You can post it in the authenticate thread here: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-855067.html

Thank you whateve. I have so much to learn! Maybe this is a good way to keep me away from ebay for awhile - researching and rehabbing the bags I already have.:smile1:

It took a few days but I finally figured out how to add a smilie.

Thank you again,
Mary

Hello everyone! I've been crazy busy with work for the past couple of months and have lost track of this forum but it's good to be back. I need some advice on a bag that I have already bathed. It is a black Patricia's Legacy (I think) but the black has seriously faded and is nearly striped from the veins in the leather. I'm not sure if this should be my first foray into a total re-dye job (that scares me a bit) or if there's some way to touch it up? Really it needs a lot more than a touch up, but the leather is still in good shape. I recall over the summer someone said something about using fabric dye? Don't know that that is any less scary. Would love your suggestions.
(BTW I think that is a shadow from my phone on the upper right corner and not some weird dark rectangle on the leather).

I've had horrible results with leather dye. I can't get it to go on evenly. It might be easier on black. I'm the one that has used fabric dye. Even that didn't go on completely even. I think that in this case, it might work. The good thing about it is that it will dye all the way through, so the suede on the inside will darken too. I noticed that it stiffened the leather quite a bit. Brushing the suede really helped.

Thanks so much. I think it is the whole issue of even color that scares me-- and making a huge mess and ending up half-dyed myself! I guess I'll give the fabric dye a shot, and maybe take care of that old t-shirt dress while I'm at it :smile1:

It looks like fingernail polish to me. I would turn the bag inside out and work on it with acetone. If it doesn't budge, it probably won't bleed if dunked. If the ink isn't thick, it shouldn't bleed when you dunk. I think this bag would really benefit from dunking after you address the gunk.
I would be careful while turning it inside out especially if wet. I did that with my courier while it was damp and it split a bit on the side at the very top and has to be fixed. Might just have been my bag or my inexperience :/

I would add a tiny bit of black paint to the first two applications of conditioner and then follow up with a few coats of Blackrock to darken it more. Once it is conditioned up it will look awesome. One of my bags has stripes like that, it adds character. :D

Would you use nail polish remover or just basic acetone? Or nails basic acetone doesn't get nail polish off that is why I ask! Thank you!!

I agree with Whateve, this bag would really benefit from a bath, and if acetone doesn't shift that stuff, it's likely nothing will. It might even peel off once you can get to it. Perhaps try that before acetone. Not sure what you mean about the piping without seeing it. If the stitching has come undone then re-sew, don't glue.

Thanks for your reply! I will get you pics of the hole parts on a little bit!;) thank you!!

straight acetone is stronger than nail polish remover. That is what I usually use. As Two.time.bags said, it is possible it will just peel off. The main thing you need to determine before you give it a bath is if it will bleed if it is put into water.

My NYC small pouch is finally done! Here is the before and after.

I'm currently working on a gray camera bag and BT belt bag. ...those reveals to come.

Here is my nearly finished Bleecker duffle. I'm carrying it even though it still needs a tiny bit more work done on the lining. The leather just got a coat of Blackrocks. I think there were a few light spots but I can't see them anymore. There is a little bit of wrinkling around the base. I'm not sure what to do about that. The back leather is much more wrinkled than the front. I'm not sure anything can be done about that.

Hey! There is your gorgeous bleeker duffle. It's beautiful! It looks just like mine. Would you say mine it rust, rather than red? I'm thinking of applying a coat of Obenauf's so I don't affect the color. What do you think? There are a few scratches and one small spot that u think will fade away with the Obenauf's. Inside is spotless.
