Wanted to update about the dye job on my Willis. It turned out a bit darker than I anticipated but I'm still really happy with the results. It's a plum color.. I used a product called Jacquard Acid Dye. I mixed the colors "Hot Fushia", "Jet Black" and "Purple" to create the color in the pics.

Do not be alarmed by the term acid! There are NO harsh acids! The only reason they call it that is because you add vinegar and that is what sets the dye. You don't have to worry about sealing and there's no dye transfer.

I love this stuff! Before and after's:

Absolutely stunning! Love it! How did you prep the bag for dye? How did you dye the strap with hardware still attached? It’s easy to remove bag hardware. Just curious. I have a camel bag I picked up for my sister and the handles are really stained from use. This might be a fun project to dye it.

The before wasn't at all bad, just some minor indentations. The after is lovely. What a special bag the Ranch is!

Could someone please remind me of the Ranch's history? Is it correct Coach only made them a couple of years? Thanks so much! :flowers:

(I'm having to make some tough decisions about which bags to part with in order to make a small dent in the purchase of a heat pump. It was too hard on me and my pets without air conditioning during the heat domes last summer.)
Beautiful! One of my favorite styles! I only see the Ranch style in 1990-1991 catalogs. I think it was probably too similar to the stewardess which was already very popular.

Thank you for that information, whatev! I love the Stewardess and the Ranch's added convenient features puts it into a whole other category.
I was thinking along the lines of whateve. It lasted for 5 minutes, it seems. The good news is that there seem to be many Ranch’s circulating.
And yes, I stumbled on my Ranch early on. I saw it at a thrift shop and turned it over and was like, where’s the feet? I stopped looking for a Stewie after that. I impulsively pulled the trigger on my burg Stewie mainly because it was a burg that wasn’t crazy priced. And because it was similar in size to the Ranch I knew I would like it.

I wish there were more colors! I'd love one in red and one in green.

Wow! great job. What a transformation!

This is my rehab of a vintage Coach that I purchased last week from a woman in my community, age 64 who told me she bought the bag new, at Coach in the Hamptons when she was a teen. I have never purchased a vintage bag in this bad of condition. I have about eight Coach bags now, I prefer the US made unlined leather, so I suppose, the Vintage styles. I had a feeling it was something special. I inquired about authenticity, and was told on the other Coach forum it was indeed the real thing. I have identified it as a Courier bag, I believe it is the large. The woman said she thinks it was 1975-76 when she bought it. So here are the before, during drying and after 6-7 coats of CPR. There is some damage to the leather on the top and strap, aging I believe, but, heck we all wrinkle with age. I bought her the Coach New York key chain to celebrate her new start in life. If anyone has any suggestions how to improve my rehab, I welcome them. Thanks

This weekend's rehabs:
View attachment 5305425
A little scared a out the BT NYC bag as it's covered in "water" stains that probably aren't water and won't come out. The devon is an interesting color, I guess burgandy. Hopefully the color will come back on the corners.
Conditioner on the BT after a dunk may be enough to help it out! Fingers crossed. I am really feeling love for the Side pack and would love to get my hands on both sizes for cheap and give it a run.

Congrats and what a great back story. If it was may bag, I would finish with an app or two of Renapur, to enhance it the fullest. Lovely job and doesn't necessarily improvement per se. I'm a bit jelly, in a good way. I have a case of serious Courier envy at the moment. Any color.

Thanks I will look in to Renapur, I have never used it before! I am often in awe of the wonderful rehabs I see posted here, I'm such a newbie. BTW, I texted J, the woman I got the bag from, and sent her the photos of her old bag. She was just thrilled she has a new home and a new beginning. Thanks for the advice.

My small Courier has turned out fantastic! The original strap is too short for a crossbody and there's no way I'm going to find that match, so I picked up a #9816 (great condition but it stinks like cigarettes!!!) in mahogany for $30. I looked at replacement straps alone and they were outrageously priced!

I love the contrast the strap brings. It looks somewhat goofy in pics but in person, it's a gorgeous compliment!

Before and after:
I don't think I ever caught up with you on this small Courier but, wow :panic: ! I saw that listing too and really thought about making an offer, but I really couldn't pull the trigger based on pics. I am just speechless, and lol jelly, about how fabulous it came out. And you have that camel Courier too! Wow.
There are two rust Couriers ... neither cheap. I'd really like to feel the leather before spending that much $$.
I am getting caught up with other things in life, so I can get on my rehabbing on, which I have woefully let slide.

You can also use something called BlackRock, which in my opinion is essentially the same as Renapur. I just happen to have 1 1/2 jars of Renapur at the moment... which I guess is a good thing
YMMV

eta, we were all newbies once, sigh ...

Unfortunately the black sidepack was $50 which I think is just an okay price, not a steal. It has tons of verdigris around the hardware. I also have a larger sidepack in red which was more of a steal, can't remember if it was $20 or $30.

Unfortunately I just discovered the Devon I bought thinking was burgandy is just red and covered in paint. Just starting to strip it..scared what might be underneath!!!
