Hello awesome rehabbers! I’m wondering if anyone has rehabbed a Dakota. Can I bathe her as per usual with vintage Coach? Here is the bag I am specifically concerned about.
Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to answer my post, whateve! I’m thinking a couple of coats with CPR as I’m concerned about the possibility of dye transfer from the navy to the tan.
I want to say too that I have seen people here dunk Dakota's. I know Catbird9 rehabbed a large tote I believe was a Dakota. Let me search her posts.
She did not dunk it. But here is what she did.
Here is someone who did! I just did a search of this thread using Dakota and dunk.
You're welcome. I don't remember ever having a problem with dye transferring to the smooth leather on either Dakotas or Sheridans.

You can also use Blackrocks. Make sure that you buff any conditioner you use so you don't get any stuck in the textured leather cavities.
Thank you, Lake Effect! I’m going to follow Catbird’s advice in those posts. Keep posting your step-by-step with your Bleeker bag!
I tried all sorts of combinations of Dakota and _____ and didn’t come up with anything! Thank you!!
I knew Catbird did a large tote and thought it was Dakota, but couldn't be sure. Luckily it came up with her user name.
Side note, I have spent a lot of time in the Coach Forum over the past 5 years!

I've never rehabbed a Dakota but I did give a bath to a green Glenwood Sheridan, which I believe is a similar style and construction to a Dakota (?) and it came out fine, see link below.

I was afraid to dunk it or use conditioning products but this bag really needed the works and a bath - so it got one! I was new to rehabbing back then and afraid of harming an unfamiliar style bag, but now-a-days I wouldn't hesitate to dunk a Sheridan or Dakota and apply conditioners as needed.

My Sheridan has a cloth lining. The Dakota's have a pig skin lining. Just an fyi!

Has anyone had stickiness after applying CPR? I never get that but I did this time on the Ergo and it's still sticky after being left overnight and a whole day. Should I just keep waiting and it'll eventually absorb?
Usually I am working on really dry bags so that is not a problem. Whenever I have tackiness, which I assume is similar to what you describe, I buff away with a cotton cloth or horse hair brush. And hold off applying any more conditioner. I have used slightly tacky bags (haha) and I have the tackiness to dissipate with use.

It’s been ages since I dunked a big bag like this. It is such a heavy beast when it is wet! I’ll probably apply CPR in a bit. Will see about posting another pic tomorrow.
Eta, and will probably turn every few hours and change towels.
Okay. I have applied CPR to one side. Will turn it over in a few hours and apply to the other side. I have the straps in a folded towel. Will apply CPR to the straps later.
Just for anyone who followed and might be curious, I dunked with a generous squirt of Dawn Ultra (blue) and an ounce (I measured it) of Lexol Leather Cleaner in my sink (normally I use 1/2 an ounce). I did measure how much water I was using in general in my sink early on and it came to 2 1/2 gallons. I used a gallon ( edited  ) cup!!! of white vinegar in the rinse process.
I use Lexol Leather Cleaner because I read about it ages ago in the eBay Boards. Then a few months before I found this forum here, I found the shorty video on YouTube by Sacs Magnifiques aka Debi the Restorer aka tetondeb on dunking that recommended it as well. It is easy for me to find at auto shops and Walmart. I like the scent and it is my go to for leather cleaning.

Thanks - yes sorry, meant tackiness. I think I'll leave it overnight again and buff on my lunch break :nuts::nuts:! X

Nice, how specific and professional! I just dump the soap and vinegar in by eye x:hrmm::nuts:

Please see my edit, I only use a cup!!! of vinegar  I started measuring because other than what to use, I really didn't know how much. I guess I like a recipe. And I was using a lot of Lexol when I started, like a quarter of a cup a dunk. Then when I was rinsing all the suds, I realized maybe I could scale back. If I use less product, I'll have more bag money haha.
I appreciated people who took the time to post pictures and what they did, to give me an idea. As well as those who answered my questions. So I will do the same.
Hey and if you dump your product and it works, keep on keeping on! As I like to say, we all have out secret sauce. And as you know, YMMV!!!

The weather here today was yucky (English teacher word) so I decided to dunk the two NYC bags I got over the weekend that were authenticated by Hyacinth. The Dinky on the left I would have sworn was a spectator but turns out just had grimy piping. Now a beautiful solid black. The City on the right is a gorgeous shade of green--Forrest green, based on its age. Currently drying inside.

I am so amazed at all the responses and help I’ve received- especially from the rock stars of the Coach forums! Thank you for the link and recommendations. I appreciate your time!

I just had had to buy this bag. I think I was blinded by the buckles. I love these belt buckles. Bleecker buckles. It has been languishing in my rehab pile for around 2 years. Pray for me  Going in . . .

I LOVE the step by step! It feels so rewarding to watch this beauty getting the first aid and care it deserves!

I did a similar bag in black for a girlfriend and it turned out gorgeously!!! Mind you, it looked very good to begin with. I love this style, but it is heavy with the 2 interior hanging pockets.
