I mainly stay away from vintage Coach bags with verdigris, hardware and piping issues. Maybe I didn’t want those bags bad enough to try. My rehabs tend to be basic; dunk in dawn dish soap -> leather cpr -> blackrocks. That’s it. When I came across this 1970’s organizer pouch which was on my wishlist, I suddenly found the energy to clean verdigris for the first time . I sought advice from @rkiz as I had seen photos she had posted on her Instagram of an organizer pouch she had rehabbed. Thanks for the tips @rkiz :hbeat:

Very happy with how it turned out.

I've been looking everywhere for one of these! Lucky you!

Anybody have any experience with scratch marks like this to give me some hope for this bag?

Gosh, that is so annoying.

I don’t have much experience with scratches, but the Dinky I am working on right now had some scratches on the bottom. They darkened after I applied CPR which is how I even noticed them. That would be my biggest concern regarding your bag.

This is such helpful info...I am hoping someday this can all be combined into a sticky note on the basic steps of rehab. I often search back for old posts by the expert rehabbers to make sure I'm following the steps.

You can also bookmark posts, its the little square flag icon next to the post number. Then when you need to go back to that post, you can easily find it in your “bookmarks” tab :)

I really love vintage coach bags and it's so fun to rehab them but lately the buying process has just been SO frustrating. The incompetence of some sellers has really put me off. I've had my eye on a spectator court for quite a while but the seller was asking for $75 and it was just too much especially for the condition the bag was in. It wasn't terrible (or so I thought) but it definitely needed to be washed and get a color refresh, which I was willing to do if the price was right. The seller finally dropped it to $40 and I went ahead and bought it.
This was about 3 weeks ago. The package arrived to my city but wasn't delivered because of an "insufficient address" but it was strange because it was popping up through USPS informed delivery (since the seller never provided me with a tracking number). I message the seller with the issue and it really is hit or miss with this seller regarding if they'll respond.. like hello... your product is going back to you.. i need assistance... you'd think that kind of issue for a seller would warrant a prompt response. Eventually he confirmed the address with me and it was correct so I thought USPS must have messed up. Once he received it, he told me he received it and would ship it out next day.. which he did not do but that's fine, I get that things happen.. I waited 2 more days to ask for a tracking number.. never responded. I waited 2 more days to ask for any updates. No response. But at least informed delivery updated and it said he had just shipped it out.

It finally arrived today and the seller just repackaged the old package so I could see that he left out my street number on the original package. But at LEAST it's here right? Opened it up to find it in worse condition than what was described

I'm fairly confident I can fix it so I'll keep it but man I'm annoyed. I'm hoping with a dunk and some conditioner the scratches wont be as evident and that I'll be able to carefully scrub off some of the peeling. Then I'm going to give it a color refresh. I'm not sure what that spot is at the bottom (also asked the seller to provide a picture of the bottom back when it was $75 and he was like "yea sure when i get home" and he never did lol) Seems to be paint? I don't think its mold... gonna try to scrub that off later with some vinegar and dawn.

But yea.. sorry for the rant I just needed to vent a little

Those scratch marks look pretty deep, Im not sure if you’ll be able to get rid of them. They’re also right on the front so if you messed around with them, they’ll become more apparent. Also if you look at how the seller is angling the bag in the listing picture to prevent the scratches from being detectable is really deceiving.

Just my opinion but Id return & get my money back :shrugs:

Has anyone had luck with sending a vintage bag to Coach directly to have it re-done? As some of you may know, I have a Patricia's Legacy whose flap was pretty destroyed from previous mold and a torn trim. Aside from trying a local cobbler (which is scarce) I did reach out to Coach about mailing it in to be re-done.

The only downside is it has to be retail to be "covered" so I anticipate some major cash to be shelled out for a vintage bag. If anyone has experience working with them on a Vintage bag I would appreciate any input and perhaps cost associated.

Looks like a cat had some fun with it. You might need leather filler.

I don't think the scratches are too deep, just that it looks like it because the dye is lifting off where it was scratched. I've been pressing the dye back down and the scratches look less noticeable, which makes me think I can go over it with paint and it should be able to cover it. Here's a picture after I pressed the dye flakes down. Not perfect, but a bit improved.

I'm going to keep it partly because it's already been a pain getting the bag and party because she's really cute at some angles.. in the right light.. if you squint.. but really I do like the bag and I'm just gonna take it as a bit of a challenge/experiment.

I see what you mean about the way the seller is angling the bag, but he had pictures at different angles that also didn't seem scratched. My guess is that the bag wasn't scratched and sometime after the picture was taken it got all messed up. Which could also be why he lowered the price. Really messed up.

I contacted them once to ask about repair and the costs of it. They were super unhelpful. The guy kept telling me to go to their repair website for more info (um yea how do you think I know about the repair department to begin with?) I asked him if he knew how I could figure out costs of repair he said I would need to mail it to the repairs department and then they would determine the cost.. I wasn't going to pay shipping to have them tell me it was gonna cost a bajillion dollars to then have it sent back, so I just gave up on it :shrugs:

If you’re happy keeping it then that’s all that matters! Good luck with the rehab, I really hope it turns out great! :hugs:

My understanding is that they charge an assessment fee to determine if the bag can be repaired and then they charge high prices to repair it and they often take a long time to get it done. I don't know if this is true because I've never tried their repair services but that's what I've heard.

I had a mahogany Patricia's Legacy that was badly damaged and I took it to a cobbler who did a nice job repairing it quickly and for a decent price; see the link below:

You know something, every now and then you get lucky - and I really hit the coach jackpot today!

I was contacted by a friend that I haven't seen in a long time and she asked me to meet her for lunch. I was very happy to hear from her and pleased by the invitation. One thing we always had in common is that we both really liked Coach purses but she was not a rehabber (and not quite as obsessive as me!)

She asked if I "still like to fix up old coach bags?" and when I said "yes!" she told me that she "has been purging lately" and that she had "13 Coach bags, including some vintage ones" with her that I could have if I wanted them?

Of course I wanted them! I tried to pay her for them but she wouldn't take any money but finally she at least let me pay for the lunch. She said that "if you don't want them then I will drive over to Goodwill and drop them off!" So I was happy to take them!

Anyway, I came home from lunch with 13 new-to-me Coach bags! I'm confident that they are all genuine because she bought most of them at the local coach boutique store and a few of them at the outlet. They are all in pretty good shape and they come from a non-smoking home. Only one of them is missing the hangtag and I only see a few stray ink marks inside but not bad at all!

I've just been looking up the style numbers and checking the creed patches to figure out what I have. So does anyone want to see what I got today in my free coach bag bonanza?!
