Hi All,

I have a vintage navy Court on its way to me. I'm excited - I've wanted a navy Court for a long time - but it is definitely going to need some rehab. I've read a lot on here, but I'm still not sure on the best way to move forward and with what products. It will be my first rehab, and I'm scared of doing something wrong!

Generally speaking, I was thinking of Brasso on the hardware, dunking it and conditioning - do you agree this would be good for this bag? If so, what exactly should I dunk it in? I've heard vinegar and water, dish soap and water - I'm not sure which would be best? And how much to use? As far as conditioning, I already have Apple conditioner, Cadillac conditioner, and Chamberains Healing Balm - would any of those, or any combo of those work? Or, should I buy something new? I've heard of a lot of products people use - Leather CPR, Blackrocks, etc., but I'm not sure what would be best for this bag. I've posted photos for reference.

See link below for my basic method for rehabbing an unlined vintage bag. Apple conditioner is okay, I prefer Leather CPR. I am not familar with the other products you mentioned but Black Rocks Leather n Rich is great for finishing vintage bag rehabs. Other rehabbers may have different suggestions, good luck!

This is so helpful - thank you so much! Is there a specific dish soap to water ratio you recommend?

No, I just use warm water and squirt in some Dawn to make suds like I was washing dishes. If the bag has some stains or dirty areas I may apply some soap to those areas and massage it in or scrub with a soft brush as needed.

Got the classic shoulder bag today and I think its black but very faded on the sides.
The shoulder strap is really weird colouring...the piping is darker than the leather strap.
hmmmmmm...its having a bath now...willl be interesting to see how this one goes.View attachment 4761005

Interesting! It almost looks like the piping is a different type or lot of leather than the bag, or different dye lots; it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I once rehabbed a Buckskin Soho Leather Laced Flap 11879 that had sort of a colorblock appearance because the leather of the strap and hangtag were different and they had aged differently and were a lighter color than the bag. At first I wasn't sure but then I got a Poppy Wallet to go with it and I decided that I liked the two-tone look!

I love the two tone. I'd be happy if it stayed that way. I've had a few NYC bags that ended up two tone. The leather for the trim took the dye differently than the leather for the body. That also happened with my 2007 Bleecker flaps.

Does anyone else have this problem? I polish the hardware and a few days later it looks bad again. Sometimes not tarnished but cloudy.
I just came here to ask the exact same thing. It's terrible on my Dinky, especially since she's a pretty light color and polishing her hardware means potentially smearing dark gunk on her gorgeous honey leather. I have no answers for you but I am sharing your frustration.

I take all hardware off now...well the turnlocks anyway...and polish separately.
