The spots are next to the creed patch, a smaller cluster of dark spots but probably hard to see in the photo. Looking at them some more in daylight I don’t think they are ink spots.. maybe just discolouration on the leather? They are just on the surface, so with my fingers crossed I’m going to wash her today. They don’t bother me but I just wanted to know what they are.

And yes it absolutely is a beautifully soft Costa Rican (authenticated here) and is in amazing condition! It was definitely a good score for me.

Eta: the bag is a beautiful British tan but this lighting is not doing her any justice!

Our local thriftstore usually only carries and amazing amount of junk, very rarely do they have anything worth taking note of it was a lucky day that I found my Patrica Legacy there besides her and the wallet nada.
I'm starting to figure out the bags I really like so I'll concentrate on those lines, tho nothing new till the new year.
Can't wait for the mail today that one has the HG Koi wristlet on the truck I'm so glad I grabbed it, something just told me it's now or never.
Morgan I keep looking for that rust colored messenger to, the two bags I still wan't are neither that rare nore as expensive so you have an extra set of eyes on the lookout.
Our local thrift stores are terrible. I've found a few things at garage sales but not enough to go every week. 2 years ago I got 3 things at a local thrift for good prices: a signature wristlet, a Ferragamo bag for $2! and a Brighton bag. Then they got wise and raised the prices. They never have anything anyway. About a year ago, they had a signature MFF bag hanging behind the counter for $75. We have an outlet nearby so I have no idea who would have bought a used outlet purse for that price. I've never found anything good since at any of our local thrifts.

ETA: the only time I find stuff is when we are traveling.

My best thrift store day was in FL. I was in a GW in Venice and there must have been about 10 vintage Coach, all $20 to $25! I am guessing all donated by the same person. I picked up a Shoulder Sac, Ranch and Monterey Hobo. Best thrift day ever! Now I find the occasional vintage bag.
The Koi sounds amazing!

My second ever vintage bag came from a thrift store in Cambridge, MA. It’s a small BT side pack (9978) in decent condition, for $28! It’s amazing what you can find in the thrift stores in the US.

Do not tempt me Morgan, no new bags till the new year, then I will be looking for a blue Carlyle and a red or navy blue Prairie Satchel of course I'm always on the lookout for the HG the all black Montichello.
Those are some nice specific goals. I really need some specific goals. Like other than a vintage burgundy bag or a Pony. I passed on a Marketing Tote in BT and burgundy, both under $100 recently and I am feeling a bit pang! And I am waffling about spending the equivalent of a car payment on a bag! Even though 1) I have plenty of bags n totes 2) Something else will come and catch my eye if I browse listings.
What I am doing this weekend is a bit of an inventory of my bags. I’m not embarrassed to admit life has been busy and I need to get some better organizing mojo going.

ETA, my best flea market day was finding a squashed Winnie for $4

Y'all are so helpful. It seems like the majority here like Leather Cement for glue. But that one doesn't get the best ratings on Amazon...I'm just trying to adhere some worn piping so that it doesn't wear further. Any insight on the best product for that?

Hi all,
I've been reading and researching here for quite some time but finally worked up the nerve to start posting. (Frankly, I need to start selling some of these for space/money reasons and the talent and knowledge here is intimidating!)

That said, I'm embarrassed to ask because it seems like this is something I should have found but has anyone ever done a step by step/best practices/recommended tools for removing turn locks and hardware? I've found countless references to it being easy and suggestions that there are different ways to do it but for the life of me, I cannot find any specific recommendations.

Thanks!
All the tools I use are in that picture. To be honest I use my fingers usually to start getting it back on and finish with that blue tools round head to lay the prongs flat. The Orange tool and the blue one are different versions of panel tools used in car interiors and are what I use to get prongs up. The little orange guy is my newest addition and works awesome! It comes to such a sharp point that I haven’t had to use an exacto blade to start getting prongs up. They’re available on amazon for like 6 bucks a set.

Here’s the stuff I use to remove the turnlocks. Let me know if you have any questions! It’s not that hard once you get the hang of it. Ask @houseof999 :)

I stopped in at a local thrift store today and saw a bag that I am almost sure is the 9085 XL duffel sac in brown and made in the US, like the one at the link below. It was worn but in good condition and they were asking $65. I walked away because I have l already have loads of great bags to rehab but I keep thinking about that bag - it's huge! What do you think, would you go for it if you were in my place? Thanks!

Whispered.."Yes I would"

When I'm in that dilemma I usually ask myself "will I really use it or is it just taken up valuable real estate'.Most of the time I tell myself not to be greedy and let someone else get a chance at it.That is my inner self speaking because I would not know what to do with it and just to have it so I can brag about it will not do that duffle sack any justice nore the person that I deprived of it.
Last time I was at the thrift store I found a nice mens wallet for 3.00$ and a Coach Hampton wristlet the larger kind in pristine condition, first I grabbed it then later on I put it back, I was never going to use it,I don't even like that style so why buy it.My son liked his new wallet tho.

It depends, if you like that style. I have the hairy (Berkeley) version, and I love it for the times when I have to carry lots of non-flat things. BTW, for some reason the dark brown Berkeleys seem to be unpopular and go for cheap on EBay.

If it was pre-creed or Made in New York City I would have grabbed it in a heartbeat. I would still be tempted even if it weren't either of those, but probably in that case I would leave it for someone else whose day would be made by finding it.

Well I wouldn't because I already know that style doesn't work for me. $65 is a good price but not a bargain. If I wanted to try a style I wasn't sure of, I would look for one under $30.

Good question! Well, is it a style on your HG list? I am guessing the color is not an HG find. Do you really want a huge bag? From what I recall you already have an amazing collection. I agree that $65 seems pricey for the color and condition. However, if it was made in NYC and you are fine with allowing the space for a collection bag, and you have a desire to simply collect that style/ vintage then go for it. I have decided to look for small bags, that are not too pricey (which can vary with the bag), either made in NYC or harder to find style/color for collecting.
Funny you mention this, I found a black Duffle at thrift shop not to long ago for $20. I was tempted because I don't run into that every day! But it was still a heavy as I remembered with a lot of wear. I could have rehabbed it and gifted it, but the young woman next to me was eying it up too. I just said, this is too big for me, and extended it to her. She gave me the biggest smile! I had several black bags, and I like a controlled black hole, like a Monterey Hobo or Shoulder Sac.
I like the Sling, which is roughly the size of the Duffle, minus the hardware. I have one in BT (lol, a while back it was featured traveling to FL). Now if that was a black Sling, whole ‘nother story . . .
If you really want a mahogany duffle post 1994, I am sure another will come along.

There is a thrift shop by me that regularly has small bags and wristlets , some in like new condition. As if somebody purged their impulse buys from 10-15 years ago! I usually put a bunch of them in my cart and then shop for other stuff and then think about either if I would use them, collect it or gift it. I end up putting most of the stuff back. If fact, I have a bunch of wristlets / pouches I need to round up and figure out what I want to keep for myself and what I want to gift. Before I buy any more.

I say if you can't stop thinking about it and it seems like a bag you would enjoy, then go for it! I find that it's the bags that get stuck in my head (as opposed to impulse buys) that I tend to appreciate more. So far I have never regretted buying one but have deeply regretted losing a few.

Thanks for all the great advice! I decided not to go back for it - if it had been red, or half the price, I probably would have grabbed it; but it is not a bag that I would use often so it's better that I let it go, hopefully to a good home.

I think that I was attracted to it because it was so big and it's rare to see a really large vintage bag and because the leather was so thick, but it wasn't really a style or color that I like. I appreciate the help!

Did you get your Koi wristlet? I have the coach koi leather fob and the koi coin purse but I didn't realize that there is a wristlet!

Broke my bag ban and got a Currant Rambler’s Legacy! She had 2 tears on the strap piping and was missing a hang tag. I used super glue on the tears (tried leather glue and rubber cement, but those just wouldn’t hold the leather together). Found out Angelus leather paint in Burgundy is a super close match to the currant color so I painted a hang tag I had to match.

Gorgeous, worth breaking your ban!

Wow thanks for the insight, whateve! I did suspect it might be mold but couldn’t find any picture on google to confirm. Will definitely wipe down with vinegar before dunking. Thanks again!

The BT pocket purse is fully dried and i can’t see the spots anymore. The bag is so pretty! Wiping it down with straight vinegar pre-bath worked wonderfully!! Thanks!
