I stopped in at a local thrift store today and saw a bag that I am almost sure is the 9085 XL duffel sac in brown and made in the US, like the one at the link below. It was worn but in good condition and they were asking $65. I walked away because I have l already have loads of great bags to rehab but I keep thinking about that bag - it's huge! What do you think, would you go for it if you were in my place? Thanks!

Good question! Well, is it a style on your HG list? I am guessing the color is not an HG find. Do you really want a huge bag? From what I recall you already have an amazing collection. I agree that $65 seems pricey for the color and condition. However, if it was made in NYC and you are fine with allowing the space for a collection bag, and you have a desire to simply collect that style/ vintage then go for it. I have decided to look for small bags, that are not too pricey (which can vary with the bag), either made in NYC or harder to find style/color for collecting.
Funny you mention this, I found a black Duffle at thrift shop not to long ago for $20. I was tempted because I don't run into that every day! But it was still a heavy as I remembered with a lot of wear. I could have rehabbed it and gifted it, but the young woman next to me was eying it up too. I just said, this is too big for me, and extended it to her. She gave me the biggest smile! I had several black bags, and I like a controlled black hole, like a Monterey Hobo or Shoulder Sac.
I like the Sling, which is roughly the size of the Duffle, minus the hardware. I have one in BT (lol, a while back it was featured traveling to FL). Now if that was a black Sling, whole ‘nother story . . .
If you really want a mahogany duffle post 1994, I am sure another will come along.

When I'm in that dilemma I usually ask myself "will I really use it or is it just taken up valuable real estate'.Most of the time I tell myself not to be greedy and let someone else get a chance at it.That is my inner self speaking because I would not know what to do with it and just to have it so I can brag about it will not do that duffle sack any justice nore the person that I deprived of it.
Last time I was at the thrift store I found a nice mens wallet for 3.00$ and a Coach Hampton wristlet the larger kind in pristine condition, first I grabbed it then later on I put it back, I was never going to use it,I don't even like that style so why buy it.My son liked his new wallet tho.
There is a thrift shop by me that regularly has small bags and wristlets , some in like new condition. As if somebody purged their impulse buys from 10-15 years ago! I usually put a bunch of them in my cart and then shop for other stuff and then think about either if I would use them, collect it or gift it. I end up putting most of the stuff back. If fact, I have a bunch of wristlets / pouches I need to round up and figure out what I want to keep for myself and what I want to gift. Before I buy any more.

I say if you can't stop thinking about it and it seems like a bag you would enjoy, then go for it! I find that it's the bags that get stuck in my head (as opposed to impulse buys) that I tend to appreciate more. So far I have never regretted buying one but have deeply regretted losing a few.

The bag sets off my highly-tuned hazmat alert.
 But yeah, that’s handy to have.

BTW, for some reason the dark brown Berkeleys seem to be unpopular and go for cheap on EBay.
IKR , I won a 99 cent bid on my mahogany Berk Flap and I was like, is the internet down in half the country?

Well I wouldn't because I already know that style doesn't work for me. $65 is a good price but not a bargain. If I wanted to try a style I wasn't sure of, I would look for one under $30.
lol, another $30-35 girl.

Hi everyone!
I got my tan pocket purse today! And while it does have a few marks (so not exactly no defects as described in the listing), I still really like it.
But - there are some dots inside the bag. Initially they were covered by some kind of white powder (sort of reminds me of detergent). After I scraped the spots off, there are some dark spots beneath.
So I’m looking to get some advice here. How can I determine if the spots are ink or if they are mold? I would like to dunk the bag but am worried if they are ink spots, they would run and ruin the bag.
(I also emailed the seller but she doesn’t know what they are either.. she said her mom had the bag in the closet for a while so I’m actually now wondering if it was indeed mold...)
Any thought or advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks!!

I don’t see the spots, if ink creating a problem. Other opinions are welcome. Side note, it that a soft squishy Costa Rican??

Our local thriftstore usually only carries and amazing amount of junk, very rarely do they have anything worth taking note of it was a lucky day that I found my Patrica Legacy there besides her and the wallet nada.
I'm starting to figure out the bags I really like so I'll concentrate on those lines, tho nothing new till the new year.
Can't wait for the mail today that one has the HG Koi wristlet on the truck I'm so glad I grabbed it, something just told me it's now or never.
Morgan I keep looking for that rust colored messenger to, the two bags I still wan't are neither that rare nore as expensive so you have an extra set of eyes on the lookout.

My best thrift store day was in FL. I was in a GW in Venice and there must have been about 10 vintage Coach, all $20 to $25! I am guessing all donated by the same person. I picked up a Shoulder Sac, Ranch and Monterey Hobo. Best thrift day ever! Now I find the occasional vintage bag.
The Koi sounds amazing!

How do you guys polish the zippers of your bags? I haven’t done it yet and it seems tedious in a way, so I’m looking for suggestions!
While I am dunking I pull the bag out enough that the zipper is out of the water and I rub baking soda on brass zippers with my fingers ....I try not to rub it on the leather as it is mildly abrasive. It helps to clean the brass. Not Dazzling but better. You can use a tooth brush too. I hope that helps.

You have to find the right location, that is everything. Now you would think having a boss that loves to shop gave me an advantage, she doen't care about purses, she will buy these ugly 1.00$ contraptions to put her phone in to hang around her neck and a cheap 8.00$ denim bag on her lap that carries everything else.So when we go shopping and I push her around in her wheelchair it's clothes she want's not bags.
At home on the pc she scrolls manely for jewelry but I can sit besider and search for bags on my Ipad. She also loves to do surveys, shoping for a living is not all that it's cracked up to be the last thing I want to do on the weekend is to hit more stores looking for bags. She is good for a surprise or two, sneaking around on ebay and then acting all innocent while I unpack her shopping, just so she can watch me get all teary eyed or weak kneed with an idiotic grin on my face when something Coach emerges.

Awwww, thank you!! I really appreciate it! What are the two bags that you're looking for?

I don't ever polish the zippers. Just clean them in the dawn with a soft brush.

I remember someone mentioned brushing something (I think it was the Barkeeper’s friend) with a Qtip over the zipper. Do some search here, maybe you’ll find the post.

While I am dunking I pull the bag out enough that the zipper is out of the water and I rub baking soda on brass zippers with my fingers ....I try not to rub it on the leather as it is mildly abrasive. If there's any verdigris on the zipper, I wipe a dry paper towel up and down the teeth to remove as much as I can before getting it wet. Then wipe again with white vinegar on a cloth. I've also used the Cape Cod metal polishing cloths on zippers.

The spots are next to the creed patch, a smaller cluster of dark spots but probably hard to see in the photo. Looking at them some more in daylight I don’t think they are ink spots.. maybe just discolouration on the leather? They are just on the surface, so with my fingers crossed I’m going to wash her today. They don’t bother me but I just wanted to know what they are.

And yes it absolutely is a beautifully soft Costa Rican (authenticated here) and is in amazing condition! It was definitely a good score for me.

Eta: the bag is a beautiful British tan but this lighting is not doing her any justice!

I think it could be mold. White powder plus black spots sounds like mold.

I've stopped buying wristlets mostly. I got down to only one that I kept because it is too pretty. Then I saw a capacity wristlet at a store and couldn't resist. I've always wanted one. I haven't used it yet. I might use it as a wallet.
