Yes, a bath would really help. Soak it until it is completely saturated. Rinse thoroughly. It will be very heavy when it is wet and will take several days to dry. Stuff with towels at first. You'll want to stuff it in such a way that it will dry in the shape you want it to end up. After awhile you can remove the towels and let it continue to air dry. Make sure you have the conditioners handy before the bag is dry. You'll want to start conditioning when it is almost dry. The bath opens up the pores of the leather so the conditioner can soak in better. You'll need good conditioners. IMO, Apple and Lexol aren't good for rehabs. My conditioner of choice is Leather CPR. You'll need several coats over several days. Then I would finish with Blackrock leather n rich. There are more specific instructions on how to use these conditioners in this thread.
Thank you so much!

Huzzah! My Reginas are finally done! Took a few weeks, but the rehabbing process was surprisingly therapeutic. As an experiment, I used Blackrock on the black one and Renapur on the tabac/British tan? one. Honestly, I don't mind either, but I did struggle a wee bit more using Blackrock, but mainly because I didn't exactly know the correct method of application. The horsehair brush really did save the day though, giving both bags a nice shine. Also, no one mentioned how fun buffing leather can be! I found myself enjoying it way too much, hahah. Here's a side-by-side comparison of the bags.

A closer look at the tabac Regina, using Renapur after a few coats of CPR.

I previously shared photos of the black Regina, but here she is again. With one coat of Blackrock.

I will say that the leather on the black Regina is a lot more buttery soft than the tabac. But that could also be due to the bag being more 'broken in'. As for the tabac bag, even though there may be some darkened areas (like patina or something), which I didn't manage to remove, it's still a beauty and I'm really happy with how they both turned out!
Congrats! You did a great job. I love the Tabac/BT one. Enjoy your new beauties.

Good afternoon everyone. I finally finished fixing the strap on my English Tan Fletcher. I'm really happy with the results. I decided to go the teensy bit of paint/moisturizer option on the edges. I had to be really disciplined because I've been wanting to use the bag for days but I had to wait until this bit was done. I love the bag so much! I can finally use it today--Yay! Thank you to all who weighed in on options for making the sides of the strap presentable. I really appreciated all your insights. Have a great weekend, everybody! :-)fletcher strap - 1.jpg

Thanks to @houseof999 for posting a listing for a Bleecker Legacy Tattersal Flat Front bag. I've been looking to rehab one of these bag and I was able to purchase it for $15.

For those tPFers who have rehabbed this bag or one similar, one is this the best method for this leather? It has a lot of scratches, but the inside is relatively clean.
Yay you got it! I have conditioned mine with leather CPR. After that dried, I used Blackrock. The scratches don't all disappear but the leather color looks much more saturated and the scratches/scuffs look minimized after treated with blackrock.

That's an amazing price! I won't tell you how much I paid for mine! I can't remember what I did to rehab these. I had one in BT that was really worn looking. I believe it came back well with regular conditioning, probably CPR and Blackrocks. There will be some color variation. The leather used for the strap and side attachments took the dye differently than the main body leather.

Thank you both for the feedback. Can these bags be given a bath?

Possibly but I wouldn't if I didn't have to. I had one with lots of ink stains on the lining. Since the lining is partially attached, I couldn't pull it out to work on it. I turned the bag inside out to clean it.
OK. I will try to clean it using products first. The inside is fairly clean, but there are a few stops that could use cleaning.

Do a search here for Carbird9’s posts. Her and another member were posting on rehabbing this very bag , maybe two months ago.

In the late summer, while dunking, someone turned the bag inside out and positioned it on the bar sink style fawcet to scrub all the stains on the lining. She posted pics.

Hey all! I've previously restored leather furniture and wanted to attempt restoring my vintage leather Coach purse that I've carried for the last nine years. I've done the research, but there's so much out there. Just a couple questions...

1. I've read to dunk in warm water with Dawn. Is there anything else I should add?
2. I've used Fiebings in the past to redye leather. I'm seeing mixed results here. What's your favorite leather dye for coach?

Thank you!
