Hi everyone,

Do you have recommendations of where to buy brass dog lease clips and rivets that look similar to Coach's?

In an effort to stay on ban island I'm finally going to convert a few thrift store/old belts into purse straps to pair with my current bags.

Here is an example of them:
View attachment 4299867
One is about 1.25" thick and one is about .75" thick. I'm looking for dog lease clips that look like brass that match Coach's aesthetic. I saw a tutorial using rivets to fold the leather in half and secure it around a d ring or dog lease clip.

The second one is a brown leather belt from Levis that was handed down to me but never fit. It must be at least 30 years old if not more and I would love to finally use it.

I've bought some hardware, including D-rings and Clips from Buckleguy.com and I was pleased with the service, the price, and the products.

I think they also carry them at Tandy.

ETA: that multicolor belt is gorgeous! I'd love to have a strap like that!

Hello everyone! I have inherited some Coach bags and since that moment I also have my eye out for any at the thrift store!! I like the vintage and near vintage Coach for the way they were made and the quality of the materials. I have never worked with leather before but being a seamstress, I can appreciate their construction. I need some advice please on how to treat leather to keep my bags looking good and for those who don't look good, to get them back in better shape!!! I am seeking advice on the three following bags, British tan Prairie bag, BT Court bag, and Black Oliver bag. Prairie bag has a lot of scratches but they do not seem to go through the leather, Court bag has a lot of use, a lot of patina but worn. Oliver bag seems ok, I need maintenance advise please.
Thank you in advance!!!

Hello all, per my previous post, the Oliver photos did not come out. Here they are. Also, the Court bag is crooked. Any idea on how to correct that? TIA!!
The Oliver looks pretty good. The others could benefit from a bath. We do it all the time with vintage Coach on this thread. Soak them in warm soapy water for 15 to 20 minutes, lightly scrubbing, mostly inside, as you don't want to damage the leather. You can put more effort into the stained areas. Rinse well, dry with towels, then stuff to get the shape you want and let the bags dry on towels. You can remove some of the stuffing and rearrange the bags to aid in the drying. When they are almost dry, start conditioning. I like to use Leather CPR. Several coats about a day apart until the leather is through soaking it up. Then a final coat of Blackrocks Leather n Rich and buffing. That should conceal most scratches. It is important to get the conditioners before you start the process as you don't want the leather to dry out too much. Don't expect to get good results with something like Apple. I would start with the Prairie and it is more tricky to shape a Court because of the handle.

@katev - oh no! this site might be even worse then breaking my bag ban  I want to buy everything! But thanks these clips look like exactly what I need and they also have matching rivets. I love how they have size charts for the hardware; so nice!

Have you tried the turnlocks before? These look pretty similar to the vintage Coach ones:
https://www.buckleguy.com/3016-natural-brass-turn-lock-solid-brass-ll-four-piece-set/

It seems that "natural brass" color would be best for matching with vintage Coach hardware?

@whateve - yes, I stumbled upon it one day at Goodwill. Unfortunately, I think it is vinyl/fake leather, but it was so cute and cheap I did not mind! I'm hoping to use it with my 1941 black turnlock saddle bag. I had wanted the black leather link strap from Coach but I'm a stickler for matching hardware and the black strap had gunmetal clips not brass. I probably should have just bought it when it was on FOS because I probably could have changed out the dogleash clips. oh well, lesson learned! I will check out Tandy, too.

Before you order from Buckleguy do an online search for coupons because they periodically send me emails with coupon offers.

I have gotten standard vintage turnlocks from coach in the past, they would send them them to you for free like replacement hangtags - do they still do that? I haven't asked for one in quite awhile.

Natural brass looks to be the right color for vintage brass coach hardware. The first time that I ordered hardware from Buckleguy was when I needed to replace a missing D-ring on a British Tan Willis Bag and I was so pleased because I could order only one, it wasn't expensive, and it was a perfect match. You can see before and after pics with the replacement D-ring starting at the link below:

There was a coach 9987 on eBay in black BIN for $75. It looked like a Willis but the bottom corners were rounded. I didn’t buy it because I have enough black bags. I wonder if any one here got it. I wish I knew more about coach, because I would feel silly recommending a fake but I wanted to post it here so I tried to research it here first, but still wasn’t sure. It was gone about 20 minutes after I first saw it listed. It was this one.

Awesome, that's good to know! What an great rehab!

I thought I saw on this thread that Coach has stopped sending out free turnlocks as they want you to send the bag in for them to assess or something like that. It appears they still give out missing hangtags though? I have not tried either of these things yet.

I recently requested and received a free replacement turnlock from Coach ([email protected]). Tell them what kind of bag it's for, including the style number if you know it. They will also send a replacement (but not necessarily matching) hang tag.

@LaVisioneer Since you can still get free turnlocks from Coach, that would be my recommendation - even though Coach can be slow in mailing them out!

The turnlocks from Buckleguy.com are very similar, and they would be a good substitute if the original model were not still available, but there are slight differences so I would use the Coach product.
