I dunked a Sheridan Hollister Tote. I agree with whateve, I wouldn't have done it except this was a "hail mary" situation.

The lining was hideously stained and badly torn; I was (optimistically) going to attempt to repair it. After dunking, the bag looked much better, the lining was much cleaner, but the tears were beyond my skills. I salvaged the hang tag and the handles, and donated the bag to a local leather shop for scrap value.

What a beautiful bag, I can see why you wanted to give it a good try. I am a little saddened by me finding this line of coach bags. I just love two tone or multi tone, multi tone gold is my fave! Green gold is TDF [emoji4]

I really like this style, but my purse will not be happy at all lol. I always try to buy cheap unless it’s something I really want (unfortunately I want too much), but these Sheridan bags aren’t that cheap. Maybe I will get lucky again, because the blue one was only $20. So I guess my search continues [emoji16]

Once I had a bag that had holes in all 4 corners. It wasn't vintage. I had bought it in a lot of bags and fully intended to just donate that one since it was in such bad shape. But then I decided to practice my rehabbing skills. When I was done I listed it at auction, and I was surprised when it got a lot of bids. It sold for around $50 and the buyer loved it!

I think the first bag that I repaired corners on with puff paint was a Sheridan. The puff paint was a perfect match. I think I could have added another coat and smoothed it out better.View attachment 4297901
This is the bag I experimented on and sold at auction. Two of the corners came out perfect.View attachment 4297903

The end results is amazing! When I see that kind of damage I usually move on, but your results make me want to consider it, if it’s a really, really good deal. Your bags came out really nice [emoji5]

eBay is a fickled place indeed, The things that go on there just baffles me sometimes. Which is why I decided to open up an Etsy store. I still have my eBay shop, but I just got tired of the games being played there. I can’t understand what you get out of bidding on a diamond ring you have no intention of purchasing. I have had a ring bid up to $600 by a legitimate buyer and they come in the last minute and big something ridiculous like $2000 and then delete their account. It was to the point it was happening once a week.

I still list there but mainly things from estate lots that I wouldn’t put on Etsy.

Hi all, can you dunk these bags too? Can you tell me the name of this bag and what the collection it was in is called? I really appreciate any information you can share, as well as your experience with rehabbing these types of bags. It kinda looks like a bag I saw before, but that one said made in Italy. Thanks so much.

It's a Sheridan. Some were made in Italy, some in the US, some in Costa Rica. There were two similar styles that varied in size so without measurements, I can't tell you more. People have dunked them but I wouldn't unless it seems necessary. I usually just use a single coat of Blackrocks. The lining can be washed. Don't use acetone as it dissolves the cloth.

Wow, Thanks a bunch! I’m so glad I asked first. I will take your advice. Thanks again [emoji4]

Do you have to shape the puffy paint to look like the piping? It does it already look like piping as dispensed?

If you squeeze it right, it will come out the right shape. Otherwise, you have to shape it.

One of these days I am going to find the right bag to practice that puff paint technique on!

I'm surprised sometimes when things I thought wouldn't sell do in fact sell. Yesterday I listed a piece of jewelry that I thought would take a long time to sell, and it sold right away.

Do you still have the puffy paint? What brand was it? I have a few bags that need piping repair and would like to know yours please as it was an exact color match.

I think it was Polymark medium brown but I'm not sure.

ETA: I just found a Scribbles brown that looks more like it.

Some time ago I rehabbed a green and tan Sheridan Glenwood bag and I gave it a bath and it came out great, you can see before and after pics at the link below:

There is not much to it. You can close up the gap with leather cement first if you think it is necessary. Then I just put on the puff paint and smooth it into the right shape.

There are lots of selling sites. All have their pluses and minuses.

I used to sell on etsy but I got tired of paying listing fees for items that weren't moving. I used to make one or two sales a month and then it dried up. I think you have promote your listings yourself and I don't have the energy for that.

Thanks Whateve!! Please let me know if I should use the 'quote' or 'reply' button in this blog. Also, in regards to the same bag I will try the puff paint, the corners have lost color. What do you think of shoe polish on bags? thank you so much for all your help, time, info!

Shoe polish is a no no! It doesn't have the right texture. If the corners have just lost color, you don't necessarily need to use puff paint. You might want to mix with conditioner to water it down some. I use the puff paint mainly to build up the edge. I do like it better than regular acrylic paint when touching up a bag because it has a sheen that is closer to that of the leather.

Thanks! I see there is a difference with puff paint and acrylic per your reply. I did not know. I think I have acrylic. I always loved the vintage thick leather Coach bag but only had 2 for the last few years. I have recently inherited about 40 vintage bags, mostly Coach (NYC and USA) and will keep most. I was lucky to purchase a watermelon NYC tote on Poshmark, good condition. My other 2 purchases I had to return (one was gum and disgusting dirty and other was super fake...plastic Coach!!!) This was before I met TPF. I would like to sell a couple of my Coaches but I am nervous about selling on line. Tried once with a Hogan and it was returned to me damaged!!!
Thank you once more for all your time and help tonight.

If you already have acrylic to match, and your bag just needs a little touch-up, you can mix the acrylic with conditioner and use that. I like to use mostly conditioner with just a little bit of paint. If you do, the lack of sheen of the paint won't be apparent, and the texture of the leather won't be changed.

How lucky you are to inherit such a great collection! I don't think my daughters would like mine.

Most buyers are honest. There are always a few bad ones.
