Should I wait till she's bone dry?
Not necessary. I think it is similar to putting lotion on when you've gotten out of the shower. It seems to lock in the moisture when you are damp.

I used to just slather on the Leather CPR and leave it. Most of the time it absorbed completely but then a few other times, it left wipe marks so now I wipe it off before it dries.

Front flap, with streaks of light/dark

Also- anything to remove the verdigris stains from the strap?
I don't think you are going to get it perfect. If you redunk and scrub, you could run the risk of making swirly marks, which would be much worse. This bag is old and is going to retain some of the patina. Once you condition, the colors will blend together a bit more. I don't know what to do about the verdigris stains on the strap.

Tan bags are very difficult to rehab and you may not be able to eliminate the spots and wear marks (unless you decide to dye the bag.) Most of the time I try to appreciate the flaws are part of the bags vintage history.

Do you have black rocks leather n rich? I find that it helps a lot to even out the coloration and hide the flaws. But again, it is harder with a light colored bag.

As for the verdigris stains, just scrubbing may help lighten them. I have used a baking soda compound that helps a little. See the link below for information about a similar bag and the link to the recipe for the verdigris remover. Good luck!

Thank you

Thank you katev an whateve! I might give her another bath. I was so focused the first time on cleaning out her disgusting interior and scraping verdigris that I didn't do anything to the bag itself. It was probably only in the water for twenty minutes. Plus, she still smells of damp basement and moth balls.

Hi Teastrong, I'm no expert, but when you dunk it again, try not to rub too hard, There was another poster here that used a plastic tip of some kind of cleaning product, I can't recall right now, and the marks on the bag afterwards were really bad. Light bags are not as forgiving, but when you put the blackrocks like Katev said, the color looks way better and more even.
