What kind of dye did you end up using?

I ended up ordering Fiebings. I wanted to try the one you recommended, but I felt really uncomfortable with that website, and I didn't find the right color on eBay :/

I just put another coat on, let's see how that dries. Hopefully I won't have to do the whole thing, I want to preserve the original Coach red!

HELP LADIES!!! Ok, I have a Siggy bag and I used my Coach cleaner on it. Now one large spot is really hard???? :( I have tried to go over it with a damp cloth but still no help... Any suggestions???
Maybe you could rinse it with water. I have washed siggy bags with soap and water in the sink, keeping the leather parts out, with no problem.

Hi, I have been following this thread for a bit and am trying to find a bag for my first rehab. A dark bag was suggested on the thread so I'm considering a black station bag. The seller sent me some photos of scuffing on the edges and I wanted to check with the more experienced rehab-ers to see if the scuffing was not too bad for a first rehab project. Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think that would be a problem. That bag looks like it is in great shape other than the corner wear.

based on the pics, I think this bag will rehab well.

Need some advice. I have two older bags that are now too gross to carry. The first one just got dirty from my being young and sitting her places I probably shouldn't have.

The second wasn't too bad except for the denim transfer onto the suede patches....UNTIL my neice spilled melted frozen yogurt in my moms car one night. My purse was in the backseat (I was driving), and I didn't know until the next morning when it was dry. Since it already was dingy from the denim transfer I just stopped carrying it.

Neither of these bags would I carry in their current state, so I'm wondering the best way to give them a bath?

If they were my bags I would pre-treat the spots and then tie them up in separate pillow cases and cycle them through the washer. When they come out of the washer, stuff them with towels to shape and lay them on a towel to dry, turning occassionally.

Remove the towels after a day and continue drying. Later apply conditioner to the leather areas and brush the suede areas.

No guarantees and it may not help with the color-transfer, but if they are too soiled to carry then it is probably worth trying.

If they come clean you should spray them with something to help keep them clean. Good luck!

I agree with Katev about washing them but I wanted to point out that the vachetta leather on the first one will darken permanently and slightly unevenly from the bath. I don't know if you can coat it with something to prevent this.

Thanks Katev and whateve for your suggestions! I don't have any leather conditioner but I will pick some up. I know everyone around here talks about apple products. I should pick up the conditioner and the guard to protect after its clean? Is that right? And where is the best place to buy them? Shoud I wait until I have the conditioner before washing them? And should I wash them separately?

Whateve, I kind of assumed the vechetta would be effected. I could technically remove the shoulder strap but then it would chance even more that the buckle strap would be a different color than the shoulder strap.

Thanks Katev and Whateve for your comments. I'll continue to look for bags of this quality or better then. It's just so hard to tell from pictures at times and the close ups are definitely eye openers.

I washed my bag with vachetta straps and they turned a honey color. I don't mind it at all. My biggest concern would be the pink leather bleeding onto the cloth. I think the greatest risk would be during the drying process. I think someone used a Tide to go pen when this happened to them. You might want to wash them separately to keep the pink from getting on the lighter patches of the other purse. But put some towels or something in the load with it to keep it from banging around as much.

I don't think it is important to get the leather conditioner ahead of time. I would go ahead and wash them. They will take at least a day to dry and if they don't come out good, you might want to try something else or not waste anymore time or money on them.

Honestly, sometimes the worst looking bags end up rehabbing the best. Sometimes you just can't tell. I have rehabbed only a few black bags and I don't know if it just me, but I have had more problems with them than with other colors. The main thing is to avoid any purses that have stains or holes. Look out for major verdigris problems too.
