Oh... I wanted to soak it because it sags. I'm hoping to reshape it back :)
Maybe I could just dunk it in plain water and reshape?

I'm going to try to soak the strap with dawn then recondition them.... hopefully that works?

What kind of spray cleaner that doesn't need to be rinsed?
I use something I got at the 99 cents store called Perfect Floral all purpose cleaner. I dilute it with water.
You can probably dunk to reshape. I don't have much experience with coated canvas.

DO you happen to have a picture of the Perfect Floral all purpose cleaner? I just searched it and nothing came up :smile1:

Well, I went for it. Tried cleaning the strap. With just simple water, it came off! Part of it.... I used a little bit of dawn on the really bad side and just simple on the other. Dawn stained one side (lucky under only) and the paint is coming off in tiny pieces?

underneath is a light tan.

I might dunk it since it looks so sad...

-- i remember reading someone repair the brown rubber on the trim...
just noticed mine is cracking. Help please?
--what brand of acrylic paint do you use? I've seen folkart and just paint ole the 90c one..
--cleaning zipper... how?

Perfect Floral is just the brand I happen to have now. I think Awesome makes a similar one. You might be able to use Simple Green.

It's a shame that Dawn stained it. Do you have a picture of the part that is coming off in pieces?

Folkart is a good brand. I usually just buy whichever brand has the color that matches the best. There is something called Edgekote which you can use on the edges or you can just use acrylic paint. The thicker artist paint might work better for this.

For cleaning the zipper, if you are referring to the fabric part, you would clean it like any other fabric. A toothbrush might be helpful.

Hi everyone! This is my first post ever. I want to thank the community here for the amazing tips on bag restoration (and authentication and the rest) and I'd love to show you my first project. She's a black Nottingham (9948) from 1995 that I picked up at a vintage shop. She had some stitching coming off, tarnished hardware, "old people smell", and overall fading.

(Sorry for the Costco vodka in the pic ;) )

Her tags are in the mail!

Welcome and congratulations! Beautiful job...unique bag...I've yet to run across a Nottingham, but I'll be looking now. (LOL on the vodka...tequila is my rehab libation of choice.)

:)

I bonded with the Nottingham and am probably going to keep that one around since it's such a unique style. Also, I've noticed the sizes of vintage bags are perfect –*I feel like these days everything is super big or super small! And I can live without slip pockets more than I thought I could.

Hi ladies! This bag is not vintage but I just bought it at a second hand store. I was wondering if anybody could give me some guidance on cleaning it? I always admire the magic that can be worked on some of these bags. I took these photos after I had made my first attempt to clean the fabric. It's hard to tell but there is some color transfer on the leather too which I'm not sure how to tackle. Magic eraser? Give her a bath?

Hi,

I'm considering a first attempt at a rehab on a vintage Coach if I win it at a good price. It's a brown duffle and it has grease stains on it. Has anyone had any success removing grease from a vintage Coach please?
I have had good luck with Dawn. I would let it soak in it's bath for a good half hour, then use a toothbrush to scrub. I will say though, sometimes they come out and sometimes they don't
