Hi everyone, I had a question for you rehabbing experts: Do you think this is salvageable at all??
I inwardly cringled seeing that and reading the description :( This poor poor purse...

Item Description: "Bag does have discoloration due to spilling soda on it. Instead of taking to leather cleaner my daughter tried to clean with water- then tried soaking. The result is leather is hard and is discolored. If you ask me, it actually adds to the charm of the bag and makes it look weathered. There are also a couple of diet spots on interior of bag. Please see all pictures. Bag has scratches on back where she stubbed to get soda off. Please ask questions."

I've been looking at that, and it would require some kind of re-dyeing. The interior is the least of the poor bag's problems. They should have been reading this thread BEFORE they tried cleaning that bag. makes me sad.

;)THANKS SO MUCH..Ive removed the strap..elbow grease vinegar & baking soda(my go to mixture for most gunk..)cleaned up the hardware..I havent washed the bag yet..its an off white..NYC..looks like Cashin to me..I'm hoping that giving the bag a good bath will get rid of the verdigris..its not severe..but it is slimey..it appears to have some ink on it or maybe its just the V. anyway, working with an off white bag will be interesting..I paid 21 bucks so whatever I can clean off..shouldnt be too disasterous..who knows ?it may have been white ~white?THANKS AGAIN!! Sheri :smile1::smile1:

We'd love to see pictures. I love the NYC oldies!!! Also a note about "Cashin". Probably with a NYC creed it's post-Cashin. A lot of Coach bags were definitely inspired by her designs, but she'd left Coach most likely by the time this bag would have been made. So many bag sellers on ebay, etc. erroneously toss the word Cashin into their listings to make it more appealing to buyers, but it's not as common to find a real Cashin bag unfortunately.

Ready for my reveal of my pink suede Hobo!! Katev gave me the courage to try emu oil on it after she had success with her brown suede bag. Thank you Katev!! I applied it with my fingertips and it drank it right up....I was concerned because the bag looked quite blotchy - it was impossible to cover up every square inch of the bag with oil. I waited 12 hours and applied more, concentrating on the areas that looked like I didn't get the first time. All together, I used about 2 ounces of oil! I waited 24 hours and brushed and.......voila! a beautiful bag!!! It is soft and the color is deeper and richer. some before and after pics:

BEFORE: YIKES!!

Wow, Gorgeous! I can't believe it is the same bag!

Ladies, I know this has nothing to do with Coach bags, but have any of you ever heard of S. T. Dupont? I founda briefcase by this company today at a thrift store. I have researched and researched and not come up with a lot....it is a high end leather good and other luxury items company based in France...They have two US companies, in NJ and NY so I can try calling them on Monday, I suppose..the briefcase seems to be really high end...and perfect inside...I think I read calf leather...some wear on the outside...not bad...wear on corners and a broken latch for the strap....some Ebays sellers were asking $1200.00 for one similar to mine...if mine is authentic....here is a few pics and if anyone has any idea where I can find out any more info, it would be appreciated...
it is like this one, but maybe a bit older: http://www.st-dupont.com/en/catalogue/leather-goods/tourniquet-briefcase-contraste

also, the handle works fine but it has a detachable strap and one end of it appears to be broken - it doesn't stay latched.....
Well, I spoke with a nice gentleman at the Madison Ave, NYC location of the company who told me that he is sorry but the company didn't use model/serial#'s and they don't have records of their vintage briefcases.:tdown:so......I think I am going to clean up the outside with some nice gentle cleaner like Apple and try to sell it...in the meanwhile I found ANOTHER really nice Winn leather briefcase this weekend when thrifting....5 dollars.... so I threw it in a sudsy bath last night...it is drying and looking good.....:smile1:

Hi girls!

I acquired a pretty red coach bag recently that had these unsightly stains on the front. Does anyone have any suggestions in getting rid of them? So far I've tried Bick 4 cleaning conditioner and Blackrock. The Blackrock helped a little but not much. See below:

Excellent job! The color is so soft and pretty!

Wanted to let you all know I tried Leather Master's other ink removal product, Ink Lifter, and it didn't work either. Their website does state that it won't work on ink that has set after 24-36 hours, but my friend had the product and let me borrow it. I decided I would test it out since I wasn't paying any money. I will say that it is quite greasy and I would be hesitant to use it on any of my newer Coach. It would maybe be worth having on hand for an ink accident on vintage Coach, as I think it would maybe remove the ink and you could always rebathe. I have a nasty Legacy zip that is my tester bag. Tomorrow I will put some ink on her and see if it comes out with the Ink Lifter. I will take pictures too!

Thanks for your help..I too have been seeing "Cashin' tossed about in the listings..along with "RARE" blablabla..( I imagine a real Cashin would need to be authenticated.).. and outrageous prices..especially on etsy these days..I used to love etsy, now most of the stuff is way overpriced(especially vintage Coach) Anyway, I worked hard on the verdigris strap..I believe its Verdigris NOT INK on the leather NYC off white bag..I'm hoping washing the bag it will get rid of it..its not too bad..but the stuff is slimy. Figured Id try some dilute vinegar with a toothbrush..thankfully its just around the brass, zips & a few spots inside. I'll try to document this one..I have 2 more..a navy & a british tan or who knows? some kind of brown?..interesting to find out the mystery color! Thanks Again for all your help! OH! what is the verdict on getting out ink? I used a bit of hydrogn peroxide, since its on the bottom corner of a black bag..rinsed it and blotted with papertowels..it seems to work, its barely noticable now..but I'll keep blotting till someone makes me stop! CHEERS !! Sheri
